The slightly older MMI is perfectly fine though. No issues and it still feels new. The seats is the older ones are just ok. The new seats look so much better though. I don’t think you can swap them in either. It’s my weekend car as I drive a work truck throughout the week. It does have little start up/cold start issues sometimes. I’m not sure if they have worked them out in the newer years but it’s not really a big deal. The difference between the “comfort” drive mode and the most aggressive “N” mode is shocking. You're most likely going to use it for groceries or a kid or whatever and you just want to open the door behind the driver's door, throw it in, and be on your way. As-is you have to walk almost entirely around the car to buckle in a kid or throw 3 bags of groceries in there, and that sucks. As-is the configuration is good for uber drivers, and that's about it. . I drove the R and was quite impressed with it for the price. I'd love to drive the N with more power. You'd have to do control arms, new diff, change the steering rack, replace all bushings, change out the sub frame, motor mounts, and possibly move the motor back (and that's not really an option). VW hangs the motor off the front of the car, and that's probably the biggest contributing factor to the numb front end. I couldn't quite justify the Veloster when I made my last purchase, and ended up getting a Forte GT manual. While, obviously not the N, it's a pretty good 80% (more?) representation in a more subtle package. I'd like to see you guys review one. Love it, or hate it, it makes no difference to me. I like it, and that's what matters wen I send in that payment every 6th of the month.

I raised the bitrate by 50% about a month ago. We also switched to Hero9s. I wonder if that's doing it. Sometimes the Hero 9 records in HVEC 265, sometimes in a normal HEVC 264 (which has been our standard for years). We updated the firmware on the 9s this week. Hopefully that helps. ZK

I enjoyed your review. Parts were vague for me as I am not familiar with most of the other cars you reference. Some of that is on me. I am comparing with Tesla not VW or BMW. I love your spirited driving, long ago, I had a '70 Mach I Mustang with Ford's (no BS) competition suspension. Harsh but did what it was told. I put almost 100k hard miles on that car. Much of it on twisty mountain roads. I have recently been considering Tesla options... I knew Hyundai offered lots of tech features without having to buy the top trim models (Ford and GM, you know who I am outing). I like the tech, of which Tesla is easily king. I also believe in always having a plan B. So I have been learning about Hyundai models.

Phil, I drove both before I pulled the trigger on a 2020 manual. The DCT is good, especially if you drive in a lot of traffic, but the manual is way more fun, engaging and involving for the driver. Plus I saved around $8,000 going with the manual.

@@dougmaverick3287 I have yet to drive the manual but yeah, the DCT is very good, I just wouldn't get an auto in a smaller hot hatch. If I want a cruiser car for traffic, I'll get something more like a Lexus LS instead. I def want to drive the manual sometime soon!

I wish I could afford this car, best hot hatch out there. I had to settle for a Corolla hatchback which I’m very happy with but nowhere near the performance. Difficult to find roads where you can get to use all that performance. Only negative on the N, at least for me, is the crackling and popping.

I thought VNDCT has a lower curb weight than its main rival CTR. Assuming with less HP than CTR the VNDCT makes it up for weighing less than 3K. VNDCT actually weighs in exactly the same. Is the 30+ HP worth the extra $5k 🤔.
