5:41 Tail pipes? Pretty sure it’s primarily because water getting into the engine air intake. The intake meant for air to get put into your engine for combustion… water getting in there stalls your engine. Likely causes long term damage too. So if the water is high enough that it reaches the engine air intake, that’s why it’s bad. Hence why hardcore off road vehicles often have those elephant truck looking engine air intakes sticking up high in the air above the hood or above the whole car. Because most cars have the engine air intake somewhere under the hood, often near a wheel well, low enough that that crossing water a couple feet deep becomes a risk. Not to mention the type of water that Tesla crossed that went over the hood.

He is not very educated in internal combustion engines. You're right, the important thing is that the air intake is above the water line, not the exhaust pipes. There is enough pressure from the exhaust to make it out, easily. Just take a look at motorboats, many have their exhaust pipes below the the water surface. But if your engine sits low you need some kind of bend/water trap, like the one you have under your sink, so that the water does'nt make it to the cylinders when the engine is not running.

@@ai._m No, it is not both. 10 meters of water depth equals 1 bar. A submerged exhaust only need a few millibars of overpressure to work. When you are so deep that the water pressure in the exhaust matters, your air intake was submerged long ago ...

It is also a bad idea of thermally stressing the engine and exhaust manifold by quenching it in water. This is not an issue for EVs.

@@ricinro Please educate me on why it's stressing to cool down the exhaust system/manifold. My naive thought would be that cooling the exhaust makes the exhausts more dense, which leads to less backpressure, which is even preferable for a turbo engine (when it's between the turbo and the atmosphere). Sure, a NA engine is designed to have a certain back pressure but I'm a bit skeptical to that the tolerance level is that sensitive. I mean you can run a NA car engine at an airtemperature of -20 degrees celsius without any problems.

I think all cybertucks should be the same top-line spec. It will be cheaper and faster to make, and they will all have the same clout. Cutting motors cuts a ton of features.

I’m actually glad the truck is delayed. The tech will be more refined, the truck much better and hopefully many supply line issues may be solved so tesla who has the best profit margins in the biz could keep the price down. I think the dual motor will be 75-80k and quad motor 90-100k. Yes I wish the price is lower but always plan to do a little Uber in to pay for it or to use it on Turo. Every Uber driver in Las Vegas makes 100 K or better and that’s the lowest in the car with a Tesla cyber truck nobody’s been in I think people will be climbing in that thing all the time and you can make your money back in six months for the full price

I ordered my Cybertruck August 26th of 2020 and am a bit over #11,000 in the manufactured line. Are tou saying I will pay as much for my wait as someone who ordered this year - over 2 years later? It's not water blocking the tail pipe that kills the engine, it's water getting sucked into the intake that kills the engine leaving the car dead in the water.

When Elon mentioned a floating CT he may have been telling us the CT has fly-by-wire proportional steering and electronic braking (no hydraulics). If you eliminate places where water can get into the bed and cabin then waterproofing is done on the lower parts of the doors, tailgate and around the battery pack/ seat assy that is installed from the bottom. So while it is not officially mentioned there is a possibility that there will be independent steering, electronic braking, torque and electronic suspension for each wheel that could actually reduce costs. Don't dream about this being licensed Coast Guard approved watercraft but sure fording slow moving streams and swamps/ponds offers utility rarely considered.

(8:55 - 11:21, good news) - Tesla's new 9000-ton gigapress is completed and shipping to Texas for Cybertruck production. This confirms they are still moving forward, though the timeline is uncertain. (11:59 - 13:11, good news) - Elon Musk claims production will start mid-2023, but his timelines are consistently too ambitious. The factory and equipment status suggests this could be more realistic than past claims. (13:47 - 14:19, optimistic but uncertain timeline) - Pricing is unknown but will definitely exceed the originally advertised $69k maximum price, possibly by a large margin, due to features and inflation. (14:52 - 15:23, uncertain news on pricing)

The in house battery cells should bring down cost, pretty much everything about the vehicle is designed to be efficient for production and cost. Why would it be so much more expensive? It was going to have 3 motors with 1 motor being bigger than the other 2, but now it will have 4 smaller motors. I don't understand your reasoning behind saying it will be way more expensive... I calculate they removed the price because they will price it according to demand and competition. If they sell it too high people will buy other options, if they sell too low demand will never end. I think the RWD models will come out first and priced at original price. If Ford can do it, Tesla can. After the initial hype train wears off they will introduce the higher priced ones that will not be too far in pricing, but they made more profit by selling the least costly model first. I believe that was their original plan and I think it would be the smartest plan. If they come out with the most expensive one first they will risk the waiters to cancel their orders and buy something else...

I heard they want to move the high end trucks to the front of the line, and not even make the 2 wheel drive single motor version. So it will be dual motor, tri-motor, and quad-motor. They have to offer the quad as the Rivian, and Hummer are both quad. I just want the tri-motor for the 500 miles of range, I don't need the quad.

Why do you need 500 mile range, after 200 miles I need to stop anyway because of bathroom or food/drink for someone. In town driving absolutely no need at all. I think the AWD 2 motor will have a long range option like the model 3...

SpaceX has depicted lowering a cybertruck down to the surface of the moon for astronauts. I believe this truck will have an airtight vacuum version for NASA missions. This is the perfect vehicle for the moon and Mars. And what an amazing ad for Tesla vehicles to see them driving on other worlds at lower gravity.

Price ? If the range is less than 600 miles, I will pass regardless of the price. When all is said and done, it's just a vehicle. Lots of people around here spend 70k on a new pickup. Now that we've seen Tesla drop prices over night by significant amounts, that makes me think, whatever they ask, it should be 10k less... Also, it's going to be so new and tesla customer service is so bad especially when you live outside of a big city...I'm slowly talking myself out of buying one. We will first see if they are even organized enough to contact people on their preorder list. The website hasnt changed in months. If it wasn't Tesla you would figure they were going out of business, but I guess the website is just a reflection of their overall poor customer service.

I still hope the two-motor version is available. I don't need all the fancy stuff, not even the FSD. I'm old-school and love the hands-on driving experience. Not to mention if the price hits $70k then I'm pretty sure I'm out on getting one. Kind of sucks because even since I toured NASA in the 60's and watched a Saturn 5 launch our men to the moon, I've been dreaming of the day EV's would be a reality. I was one of the first to reserve the 3 motor with FSD (as soon as it was unveiled) but will be happy to upgrade to the 4 motor, and willing to pay up to $130k for it (I hope it doesn't exceed this price) This will be the most sophisticated machine to hit the road...can't wait!

Maybe we all need to wait until a CT is actually produced and delivered to a customer and a video is made with that customer driving it. Constant exhaust pressure from a running engine will prevent water from entering the tail pipe and stalling the engine. Ice cars suck up water from their air intakes and hydro-lock their engines. Besides what exhaust pipe does a Tesla need to worry about? Tesla Nerd ! LoL ..def not a car guy but sure knows how to make a KZbin video

I understand that the hardware costs can’t remain fixed. That just wouldn’t be possible. Software on the other hand does not experience the same inflation effect. I would hope that Tesla would honor that pricing. In my case, my tri-motor reservation included FSD at $7,000. I think $15,000 might just cause me to reconsider my reservation. I have my heart set on that truck and am running my current ICE Jeep into the ground to avoid purchasing another clunker ICE. With the economy tanking, I may have to abandon my dream vehicle. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😇

I really hate the pink foam/pack design on the new battery packs. If youre out of warranty and a single cell goes bad they have made it incredibly difficult for people to replace that cell. People are going to end up paying 10s of thousands because of a faulty component.

@@travish585 it's not about lifecycle, it's about one of the cells being faulty. It happens in EVERYTHING that has a battery. Even the most advanced tech in the world will have some defective products at scale. Having a few faulty cells in a pack should only cost a few dollars in parts and a little bit of labor. But the battery packs aren't designed for repairs at all. Yes there are advantages to this kind of thing, but it's like apple gluing all their components down so if 1 thing goes wrong you need to buy a new device.

same but i did dual motor but i think you can just chose what ever you want single dual tri or quad motor / potential battery option- the FSD is locked 8k i dont see they could raise that price though and it could be worth 100k value the fsd if it can even just convoy on highways with trailer following on in front.. (not even fsd just follow) full fsd even more value...

I am super excited about my ordered Cybertruck, I ordered late in the game when it didn't even show any price, so I'm sure I'll have to decide if I want the probably Over $100,000. 3 or 4 motor version(which I think Elon said the 3 motor version is perfect in itself so why have a 4 motor version that sucks more battery and limits the vehicle?) Anyways, I guess I'll have more time to save up for the most expensive purchase of my life. Must build a new business to make more money to buy this awesome machine!

I put my reservation in the first two weeks it was available way back when. I feel great about that Elon has put his efforts in making such a great truck for a reasonable price. But that was years ago now he has gone off the deep end and took the truck for being a truck into a boat... like what are you on. I think people didn't reserve the truck for it to be a boat. Now he is making it unaffordable to many Americans that just wanted something different look wise on the road. He should have just made a second project and made a Tesla boat but please dont transform something that was a great idea in the first place to some type of test project for your mid life crises. I think he should have just released it to the public the way it is and made refinements later for second gen models. Very unfortunate that most of these costly add-ons will not make any difference in most Americans 'lives. More then half of the trucks sold in America that have off road compatibility are not used for off-roading so why buy a truck if you aren't going to use it for its purpose. It's a flex for most people. I might be dropping off because I don't need all these unwanted features that I will never use unless zombies start coming out of the ground.

Lol water covers tail pipe and ice fails... you have no idea how ice cars work. Intake air pipe gets water in it or the fuse box are the problem areas. Those 2 areas and you are hosed with water. Electric cars are high power and so are sealed better. You can seal up a car and we do, off road trucks do it all the time. You just need a fresh air intake higher than the water.

Yes I do remember that fine print and I fully accept that. It’s just that I remember at the rollout ceremony Elon was almost bragging how cheap it would be - I remember the crowd even letting out a gasp when he announced the price of the base model. As per usual I guess he was just full of shit !
