2021 draft class is right there with defensive potential- mobley, jones ,suggs, barnes, with some sneaky defenders with upside in McBride, johnson and kuminga

2009 nba draft also has great defenders with guys like Jrue Holiday, Danny Green, Patrick Beverley even Ricky Rubio all of them are good defenders

1984 had hakeem, mj, alvin robertson (all time leader in steals per game) and the all-time steals leader, john stockton.

Reminds me of a thinner Hakeem. Also plays like Ralph Simpson before his carrer derailed because of injuries.

@@DanMarin-lf7fethe best is pushing it but off potential it can be around Top 7. the rookies are really balling out and are easily put performing classes before them, while having lottery and 2nd round picks out playing recent lottery picks. Most of these dudes are starters or playing 25+ mins and are crucial for their teams and relied on every night.

Many guys had defensive upside when in college, but it never translated to the NBA. Darren Collison being a prime example. Point being said, it's rare for three point snipers (unless they have lateral quickness, length, and IQ, then they are "three and D" players like KCP, Danny Green, Caruso, etc., but the likes of Korver, Bertans, McDermott, Duncan Robinson, Mike Miller, Trae Young, and JJ Redick are the norm), insanely small point guards (Muggsy Bogues being the exception... Isaiah Thomas and Earl Boykins were very bad, especially IT), and instant offense gunners (Lou Williams, Jamal Crawford, JR Smith, Jordan Clarkson, etc.) to be good defenders, as well as the stretch 4s and 5s (Kevin Love, Ryan Anderson, Jamison, Troy Murphy, Rashard Lewis, both Bogdanovic players, etc.) and anybody who is scoring a ton of points on a bad team (because the team NEEDS their offense to even have a chance... Devin Booker was in this category for YEARS until he became average/decent when he suddenly got help with CP3 and Durant/Beal, though most become instant offense players or role players, like Monta Ellis... if the Warriors traded Steph we would have likely seen the Bucks dynasty in the 2010s instead as he'd be paired with Giannis and Middleton).
