Wow. I can't believe I never thought of using QuickTime to record from youtube or any other place. I just use a KZbin Downloader, and download just the audio and then import it into logic. Your way is much simpler and I can just record only the part I need. Thanks so much!

@@huschi1898 That's the catch, you need some sort of audio plugin that records your computers sound output. The only one I know of is a plugin called SoundFlower. But it's free and from a random website, so use with caution.

4:35 - I would also recommend using ShaperBox or Effectrix for the very same effects (stuttering and reversing certain sections), could sometimes be easier to experiment with and it works with midi as well!

I mostly use Logic for mixing live sessions with a band, or doing some lightweight MIDI stuff. I decided that I’m going to start exploring more because there’s so much untapped potential I’m not using and this is a GREAT jumping-off point! I learned quite a lot from this video! I’ve seen Alchemy before digging through Logic but it was way too intimidating. This is a great way to start using it. So much power! Thanks man!

Yxg3 _B that is a great question! It’s called capture record, it’s for when let’s say your track is playing and you’re just kind of noodling a groove, melody or chord progression, but not recording. Click that button and it will spit out what you didn’t record as if you did

ey man. thank you ! good video. just one tip or idea. if you use the apollo interface you can route your systemaudio to one of the stereooutputs from your interface. if you do that, you can just create a stereo track in logic and set this output (for example virtual 3/4) as input. when you then hit record it will record whatever you play on youtube, spotify, etc. that way you can just skip the quicktime step :) thank you again.

Could you cover the best way to build drum kits in Logic? I've been using Ableton's 90 day trial over the last few days and the drum rack is so much better than what Logic has to offer. Ultrabeat and EXS24 are awful.

And then play them as layer sound ? Also how would you duck the frequencies between the two layers to have more control what is coming through and a better separation ? Forgive I still just learning

Logic has a cool feature that's called bounce in place, people shorten the term to just bounce. Lets say you have a midi region of a piano that you want to be audio. You can bounce in place and that region becomes audio. Try it out, hit control b on a selected region and you'll see :)

Brent if you have your interface selected it should record the same quality your hearing out your speakers. Are you talking about cleaning up a bad audio from KZbin you are recording? Hiss and pops ect?

Excellent, great info-thank you! Here's some questions: The midi region that you get from the EXS24 process seems like the best part of that method; captures the unique timing of the transients. Can Alchemy do that too? And what are some good ideas/techniques for using just that timing info on other sounds, loops, etc. without stumbling over the pitch info?
