Wow. I can't believe I never thought of using QuickTime to record from youtube or any other place. I just use a KZbin Downloader, and download just the audio and then import it into logic. Your way is much simpler and I can just record only the part I need. Thanks so much!

@@huschi1898 That's the catch, you need some sort of audio plugin that records your computers sound output. The only one I know of is a plugin called SoundFlower. But it's free and from a random website, so use with caution.

@@huschi1898 It seems like he uses his audio interface in this video though... the "Universal Audio Apollo Thunderbolt" at 8:02. So if you have an external audio interface maybe that's all you need? I don't know

4:35 - I would also recommend using ShaperBox or Effectrix for the very same effects (stuttering and reversing certain sections), could sometimes be easier to experiment with and it works with midi as well!

I mostly use Logic for mixing live sessions with a band, or doing some lightweight MIDI stuff. I decided that I’m going to start exploring more because there’s so much untapped potential I’m not using and this is a GREAT jumping-off point! I learned quite a lot from this video! I’ve seen Alchemy before digging through Logic but it was way too intimidating. This is a great way to start using it. So much power! Thanks man!

Yxg3 _B that is a great question! It’s called capture record, it’s for when let’s say your track is playing and you’re just kind of noodling a groove, melody or chord progression, but not recording. Click that button and it will spit out what you didn’t record as if you did

When I pull up a new audio recording for the QuickTime Player, I only have an internal microphone. Where do I get these other options? Do I need to plug an actual microphone in for Quicktime to hear things as good as it did yours? Please let me know!

You need to down the soundflower plugin for QuickTime. It’ll allow you to record straight from the computer.

ey man. thank you ! good video. just one tip or idea. if you use the apollo interface you can route your systemaudio to one of the stereooutputs from your interface. if you do that, you can just create a stereo track in logic and set this output (for example virtual 3/4) as input. when you then hit record it will record whatever you play on youtube, spotify, etc. that way you can just skip the quicktime step :) thank you again.

Could you cover the best way to build drum kits in Logic? I've been using Ableton's 90 day trial over the last few days and the drum rack is so much better than what Logic has to offer. Ultrabeat and EXS24 are awful.

Hi there great demonstration This is off topic But when you create chops up in Logic main program I was wondering can you create a track stack with say a piano and those chops etc... And then play them as layer sound ? Also how would you duck the frequencies between the two layers to have more control what is coming through and a better separation ? Forgive I still just learning

Logic has a cool feature that's called bounce in place, people shorten the term to just bounce. Lets say you have a midi region of a piano that you want to be audio. You can bounce in place and that region becomes audio. Try it out, hit control b on a selected region and you'll see :)

Brent if you have your interface selected it should record the same quality your hearing out your speakers. Are you talking about cleaning up a bad audio from KZbin you are recording? Hiss and pops ect?

Excellent, great info-thank you! Here's some questions: The midi region that you get from the EXS24 process seems like the best part of that method; captures the unique timing of the transients. Can Alchemy do that too? And what are some good ideas/techniques for using just that timing info on other sounds, loops, etc. without stumbling over the pitch info?

When I use QuickTime to record audio it doesn't record any audio of the computer!? Even my own voice can barely be heard? I use the built in microphone and don't have dedicated audio interface. Any further settings I need to check to get this to work?

Search for soundflower. It installs a virtual audio interface that you can use to record from the output of your internal audio device, digitally.

Great video. Do you have anything on how you create beats etc? I love your beats and I want to make trap with the pitched snares/hats thing. At the moment I use cubase and Akai essentials. Moving over to Logic so the help would be great. Thanks

How do you get the ‘Halftime’ and ‘RC-20’ and those other plug-ins?? I don’t have those but the basic ones like EXS24
