I just finished the Inca trail. I am 53 and in good shape. I trained hard to get in even better shape to walk the trail. Day one isn't too bad compared to the rest of the trail. Day two is very hard. Day three and four aren't much easier. Bring a good pair of walking sticks. Its like climbing a crooked stone step ladder for six hours a day. More if you choose to do the trail in three days which I strongly advise against. Who wants to start their day at 2 am. Why rush? Please follow the advice of our guide who told us that we would be doing everything, "Slow, slow." Be in the moment every step of the way. Look around every few steps. Absorb the details. Smile at yourself. You are there. Be there. Think of nothing but what you are viewing. Its a very special place.

BlueShaman'sFriend I'm turning 62 just before we leave for Brazil, walking the inca trail early September, training on hills and stairs, we have poles, I walked the 4 day Milford track in NZ, my only problem was a blister between my little toe and the next one, so I have socks with individual toes, and fleece which is wrapped around and stops blisters,so hopefully we'll be OK. Just need the weather to be kind

Someone told me going barefoot at home helps as it builds up the pads on the bottom of your feet. I would agree. You will fine. Remember, lots a lots of people complete this trek. Our guide said the only thing that can stop a trip is torrential rain. He said then it becomes to dangerous. You are going to have the time of your life!

I share my enthusiasm with the owner of this video for I myself experienced the challenging 4 day trek and surpassing the Dead Woman's Pass to Machu Picchu. The experienced was amazingly beautiful, life changing, gaining new friends from all over the world w/c you shares passion for the love of nature ,learning what is left behind by those who came us first and stepping in their footsteps .I highly recommend to whoever didnt experience this yet ,don't let it pass ,you will be amaze what this trek to offer ,not only the country is beautiful but also the Peruvian people specially the people in the Andes mountain or Sacred Valley and the people who lives in the Peruvian Amazon.

Would u give some numbers on the cost of this 4 day adventure? I want to travel and hit it too but I'm thinking it could cost more then I can afford...

+Cofra Vega idk if your still curius or not but the group im doing it with costs 1900 but theres a few extra things involved. ive seen groups as low as 800
@koko14948 жыл бұрын
+Cofra Vega depends on what you want ,if you just like to hike Machu Picchu the cost is lesser than a thousand or less but if you combine a trip to the amazon and galapagos then it's much more money.I travelled solo and when I booked, I asked for 1person accommodation for the hotel and tent accommodation to Machu Picchu so I payed a little extra.

This is nice video of the 4 days Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. I had the privilege of doing it twice thus far, and plan on doing it once again in a couple of years, when my kids are old enough to join me. Paying for a service that will get you tickets, meals, tents and a guide is well worth it. We even had a couple of happy hours upon arrivals to our camp sites on the second and third days.

What a journey! And and what a great piece of film work. It's great to see you getting the recognition you deserve. I take it that your fellow traveler was crying when she spoke to the porters because of her admiration for those people? Well done! Paul
@Kernowclimber10 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, Thanks for your kind comments. We're just glad that we managed to get enough film together to make a record of this amazing trek so fellow travellers can see what lies ahead of them. The Argentinian lady in the film made a very emotional speech as she presented the tips we had collected to our Quechua porters on the final night. She found the second day especially hard and nearly gave up. One woman had already dropped out of our group. However, she proved to be a real trooper and carried on to finish the trek. Lovely memories.

Thanks a million for this wonderful video! I hiked the trail in 1987 when i was young and you did not need a guide . U rented a tent and bought food in Cuzco main square. The second day to the highest pass was challenging but with coca leaves it helped. Hiked to Wayna picchu but remember how steep and dangerous was the hike . But the icing on the cake was to arrive at MP early morning before anyone and having the place to yourself sort of! I guess a lot of people hike it these days Great video , brought a tear to my eye for wonderful memories.

Great to see this - I hiked this trail in 2001 at 50 easily the oldest in my group. This video really recaptured the experience. I remember the different sections really well - most especially the extraordinary effort of the approach to the first pass on day two! The only disappointment for us was that, when we arrived at the Sun Gate after all that effort, Machu Picchu was completely enshrouded in mist. Otherwise what a fantastic experience.

Chiny91, the only section that ran close to a precipitous edge was the final section on the last day en route to the Sun Gate. This section of the track has experienced some bad landslides, it's narrow and isn't in the best of conditions. Several trekkers have died by slipping off the track as they tried to push past other people in their rush to get to the Sun Gate. We were cautioned about this by our guide. For what it's worth, I suffer from Morton's nueroma in both feet which causes excruciating pain. I took anti-inflammatories and painkillers and tried to move as quickly and lightly as possible down over the steep sections to spare my feet. It worked. I did the trek no problem.

Fantastic video. I am going to Peru next year, but will be trekking to Choquequirao and from there to Machu Pichu. I was absolutely blown away when the woman from Argentina thanked the crew and told of her admiration for the experience. I heard these mountains, views and people have that effect on people. Which tour did you guys use? How did you handle the altitude? Again, awesome video. Amazing experience!

Thanks, plodej. If you want to know more about our experience on the trek, read the our blog: kernowclimber.blogspot.ie/ No problems at all with the altitude as we spent some time in Cusco beforehand to aid acclimatisation. We booked through Peruvian company, Intense Peru, who used a local company, Camping Tours, for the trek. All was tip top, and we were very happy with both companies' service. Enjoy your trip to Peru next year :-)

Great video, just booked with some friends for a June hike. What type of camera did you use to capture this footage and how did you keep the battery charged during your whole trek? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your kind comments. We did this trek a few years back and the video is a bit wobbly in places. Nowadays we would either use a tripod (difficult when doing this trek because of the volume of trekkers) or stabilise in post processing. For this trek we used a Panasonic Lumix FZ200 (1080p) and LX3 (720p) cameras for the video. Now we use a Lumix GH4 (4k) camera for video and a Pentax K1 full frame camera for timelapse. Concerning batteries, generally 2-3 batteries would be OK for the video camera for up to 7 days of trekking, but timelapse eats batteries and I may take 6 batteries for the Pentax. Sometimes I take a powerbank Lithium battery pack and recharge camera batteries using a camcaddy charger (www.solartechnology.co.uk/solar-chargers/camcaddy). Sometimes I also take a solar charger to either recharge the powerbank battery (when trekking) or a camera battery directly (when in camp). I use the Freeloader super charger (www.solartechnology.co.uk/solar-chargers/freeloader/supercharger-5w). It's possible to buy the battery charger and solar panel as a bundle. Martin

I truly enjoyed watching this video! What an incredible experience this must have been! One question though ... once you arrive at Machu Picchu .. how much time do you actually get to spend there before you must leave?? Only a few hours or so?? Perhaps an entire day?? Am curious and thanks ...

Day 4 is a very early start, with only a couple of hours walk to the sun gate, so you get to spend a long time at MP. Maybe 4-5 hours before catching the coach back.
