Mostly agree but Jason Fung's books are very helpful in understanding how the body really deals with nutrition. Fasting works because you increase the periods of low insulin not just calorie restriction.
@janicelloyd32152 жыл бұрын
You shouldn’t blow Dr. Fung off like that. He is a nephrologist treating diabetics with end stage renal disease who can improve their disease by fasting and losing weight. He’s saving lives.

I got most of my weight off using Dr. Fung's approach with a keto/16:8. But, I've stalled out with 25 more to go. Not sure if I just lower the carbs at this point, or try some extended fasts. I'm also thinking about laying off monk fruit and organic stevia as well. Hmmm....
@janicelloyd32152 жыл бұрын
@@Keeper414 The longest water only fast I did was 7 days, I’m type 2 diabetic with retinopathy. That’s my motivator. I do low carb , 16/8 IF. I have tried some of the KETO diabetic friendly products and recipes , they raise my blood sugar. I can do liquid only days, eat every other day. Changing plans helps.
@Keeper4142 жыл бұрын
@@janicelloyd3215 The reason I landed on those two specific natural sweetners, and Im talking about the organic extracts of monkfuit and stevia, is because I got no movement whatsoever on my Keto Mojo BG unit. So, I'd put them on the back end of my two meals a day. Worked to the tune of around 90 pounds, but then it just stopped. I'm not gaining at this point but it seems like my metabolism just found a homeostasis and its not budging now. I might just drop them one at a time and try to isolate what is stalling me. The good thing is i'm never really that hungry now that I got my hormones under control. I appreciate your thoughts. x

I agree. But Matt doesn’t know - he is not out of shape and struggling. I think he would change his view on Dr Fung quickly if he had a need for his advice. Dr Fung changed my understanding and was the first time I had success as a sixty year old woman. After reading many of the other books Matt mentions Dr Fung’s work was the one that made a difference.Can’t recommend him highly enough.

Been fasting almost 8 years, way before I found Dr. Fung. Autophagy is good for people. Dr. Fung says we eat too often, too much snacking, we eat in front of our computer, in the car, and watching TV. Restaurants serve huge portions. No wonder we are a fat nation.

I've spent 5 years in the keto/paleo/low carb space, and if I could only recommend one book it would be The P:E Diet, by Dr. Ted Naiman. It won't give you the keto warm and fuzzy feels, but it will help you understand the basics of nutrition, macronutrients, and metabolism and could potentially save years of sifting through keto misinformation.

Fasting, even 18:6 or 12:12, gives the body a break from from the glucose-insulin cycle. I’m not sold on autophagy for fixing loose skin but I’m excited about cell apoptosis & regeneration of healthy cells-esp in the brain.

I read nutrition and physical degeneration 9 years ago while pregnant. It was great advise coming from a SAD diet. Still make bone broth regularly. The pregnancy lead to my healthiest child, who has a very slight gap in her teeth, which may mean there will be enough room in the palate for wisdom teeth, I asked the dentist if they thought there would be enough room and they were clueless about the idea. It really should be required reading for dentists, nutritionist, midwives, female high school students, really anyone who might deal with ppl who are hoping to be or are pregnant.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've downloaded Primal Body-Primal Mind and I'm looking forward to reading it. I don't necessarily agree with your take on the intermittent fasting ideas of Dr. Jason Fung as my personal experience was that, on Keto with the same calories, I had increased visceral fat loss and lower blood sugar numbers with 16/8 vs 12/12.

Twenty or so years ago, I read a book called _Fit for Life_ by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond; I think that that's their names. They promoted consuming fruit BIG TIME. That was their main shtick. Now, I know better.

N = 1. It's always possible to wear a continuous blood glucose monitor and find out how certain food spike blood glucose and others do not. A banana may spike blood glucose as much as a candy bar preventing ketosis and preventing weight loss. It is possible to try to be SUPER STRICK no cheating for 30 days. No fruit no bread no refined carbohydrates. Time restricted eating does work also because you are in ketosis longer. Do NOT eat after 6 pm and skip breakfast becomes an 18 hour fast. Glycine at night plus L tryptophan and melatonin all will induce deep sleep and are active brain things and extremely beneficial. In the morning, acetly L carnitine and tyrosine

You really need to follow the science in Fung’s theory. Even more importantly the results of Fongs advice reversing Diabetes 2 are truly incredible. Keto can work for weight loss but maintaining a weight loss on Keto is difficult and people wind up yo yo ing. Whereas following an 18/6 to maintain a loss is a breeze.
