In 2023 when fewer and fewer people are talking about the M50, please never stop. I've recently fallen back in love with my M50 and videos like this help! I love my sigma 16mm, it was my first lens outside of the kit lens!

Many congratulations on going through a whole seven minute video on lens recommendation without using the word “glass”. Great job.

@@AndrewKnepper My apologies if this gave the wrong impression. I was trying to say that I really don’t like the use of the word “glass” instead of lens, as so many KZbinrs do. Maybe it’s me being silly. Anyway, it was meant as a compliment, not at all as criticism or sarcasm. I did actually really like your take on the lenses.

You mention two of my favourite lenses for the M50 mk II (the Canon 22mm f2 and the Sigma 16mm f1.4) but I'll add two more: the Canon 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM and the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN. The Canon macro lens is the only EF-M prime lens with image stabilisation which makes it a great all-round lens for street to portrait photography and video. (Macro photography is great fun too.) The Sigma 56mm produces great bokeh for portraits. It's sharp and bright, so I find it useful for landscape photography too. Often, you want to zoom in a bit on interesting landscape features and the Sigma 16mm or Canon 22mm are just too wide.

The Canon 32mm f1.4 is the best M mount lens and much smaller than the equivalent Sigma but it is the most expensive prime made for the mount. You get what you pay for. The 22mm is very sharp too. However for me the excellent 11 to 22mm zoom with IS is the most versatile.

Nice video! Just yesterday I received an M Mount adapter and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM (both refurbished) from Canon. I've wanted a telephoto lens since I got my first DSLR somewhere around a decade ago, and now with the Canon M50 plus adapter--and the great price this lens gets when both refurbished and on sale--I've finally got what appears to be a very nice telephoto lens. If I decide to start doing some serious video though, that Sigma 16 might be in my future. Question: what are the times when you choose to use the EF-M 22mm over the EF-s 24mm (or vice versa)?
@AndrewKnepper Жыл бұрын
That's awesome! Glad you're finding good deals! To answer your question, I usually prefer the 22mm because it's an M-mount, better in low light, and more compact on the M50.
@andrewberrigan1404 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewKnepper Thanks, I appreciate your perspective. The M Mount adapter is an awesome gateway to some incredible lenses (sometimes at pretty incredible prices), and it really opens up a host of possibilities with the M50/M50 MII. That said, the compact form factor of the camera paired with its native lenses (particularly that pancake 22mm!) is one of the chief things that makes it a really appealing camera IMO. Nice to have choices, though!

I bought the Canon M50 Mark II last year but have not been able to practice much yet with my one year old twins. What lens of lenses would you recommend for taking photos of the babies and my family? I am open to purchasing the adaptor if needed. I really just want crisp, in focus shots for both inside and outside. So far, I only have the lens that came with the kit. Thank you so much!
@AndrewKnepper11 ай бұрын
You could get an EF-M adapter and use the Canon 50mm f1.8 which is a great lens for the price. You could also get the Sigma 30mm f1.4 which is a native M-mount lens. Both are great options!

I went on Amazon to buy the EF-M Mount Adapter you recommended. The one you recommend is normal, but there's a mirrorless option for this adaptor. Same price. Do you suggest I go with the mirrorless EF-M Mount Adapter for my Canon mirrorless M50? I tried looking this up but did not have any luck finding any info which one is better. Thanks in advance for your help.
@AndrewKnepper11 ай бұрын
Not sure I've seen one that's for a mirrorless camera. Adapters really shouldn't matter between a camera with a shutter and a mirrorless camera... Also if it's a EF to M mountain adapter the M-mount cameras are all mirrorless. I'd go with whichever one has better reviews!

The Canon EF 50mm on the M6 Mk II would crop to around 75mm right? Or would it stay at 50mm ff equivalent on m6?
@AndrewKnepper Жыл бұрын
It depends on to use an adapter or speed booster. An adapter will give you a 75mm equivalent focal distance while a speed booster will give you a 50mm ff look!

It will work, but you will need an EF-M adapter to make it mount on the Canon M50. They are roughly $37 on Amazon so not too expensive!

I've personally never used that lens but if it's like the Canon 50mm than it's a great portrait lens! For video it may be too zoomed in for most types of video, but hey, if it's free I'm sure it's worth trying out!

I’ve just bought mine too but I bought a secondhand Canon nifty fifty. You really should take up his kind offer. The bokeh you get from that lens is excellent. Don’t get the Canon adapter. Get the Viltrox one. It’s excellent and much cheaper.

The real issue is when you decide to upgrade to RF, the previous lenses will be useless.
@AndrewKnepper Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but you can always sell them or keep them if you decide to keep the M50 which is what I've done!
@thetoyota86perspective54 Жыл бұрын
Most people who "upgrade" also keep the M50 as a backup or "B" cam. Even if I went RF, I have zero regrets buying all (except the 18-150) EF-M lenses. I'd keep using them because even today there is nothing out there quite like the EF-M system in terms of size, weight, sharpness and price
