The ketogenic way of eating is a very powerful way of eating that can reverse chronic disease and move you towards your ideal body weight. But, when you first start, it can be a little confusing. Best to learn the 7 biggest keto mistakes from me, than to commit them yourself.
By doing keto correctly you can return your body to the good health it was intended to have. Sadly, there are many different opinions of what you should and should not do. I want you to have success and happiness on your health journey and so I made this video for you. Please apply its principles, and share it with a friend because so many people are confused.
If you are not making the progress you expected with keto it is quite likely you are making one or more of the mistakes I discuss in this video. Better to learn now so you can keep your progress going. When people see your progress and ask, "What are you doing?" you will be able to tell them the proper path to take.

Gerhard Braatz I’m sure Dr Berry has heard it all. Unfortunately for the yo yo dieter and so many others the problem is theirs. The real pity that so many “professionals” in the nutrition and medical fields also think this way of living (LCHF) is not only wrong but dangerous.

Keto and IF saved me. I went from 418 pounds to 215 pounds. I look and feel amazing. And check this, im 31 and my 6 grade graduate suit is now 2 big for me. Ive adapted this to my lifestyle boy i never felt so good. Im at the point where i have to force myself to eat because i dont be hungry. And the reason why i force myself to eat is because i workout I want to maintain My muscle mass. When people ask me whats my diet. I say i follow a Keto/flexiterian diet meaning. I'm keto and im flexible with meat. Somedays ill eat meat some days i won't and substitute with seafood or not meat period. I cant cut out meat completely, im from the islands n i love oxtails, chicken, pork, lamp, goat n etc. The coolest thing about this, i can stand in a room full of donuts pizza and junk food for hours and not be tempted. All i say is omg i remember when i use to eat that and laugh right after.

I’ve been doing this diet only one single week and I can already feel a vast difference in how I feel inside of my body. I feel “better”. My stomach is not as bloated or full, it is going down already and I can bend down easier, I feel lighter, and yet I have NOT BEEN HUNGRY or felt deprived of food. Another thing that I noticed is that I used to race for breakfast food in the morning and not be able to last long into the morning without eating something. On this particular way of eating, I can easily make it to lunch time without eating a single thing and I am NOT feeling starved or getting a headache from lack of food. I do drink plenty of non sweet liquids until lunch time though. Eating a meaty/cheese meal at supper time with a huge portion of veggies (also with cheese) is keeping me full for hours on end, all through the night and all through half the next day. So there’s my intermittent fast that puts me in ketosis. And I’m not finding it necessary to snack hardly at all so far. These food combinations keep you FULL. You don’t get peckish and want to graze on junk food. I am very hopeful this will work out. I’m loving this so far and feeling very satisfied with my hunger levels throughout the day. What’s best is I actually like what I’m eating and I’m not starving. So yay!

Same here. Ive had multiple people tell me Ive lost weight when Ive only lost a few lbs and it shouldnt be noticeable. My weakness is sugary drinks like juice and fruit punch. I noticed gatorade has lower sugar than many other drinks and I cant stand diet drinks. So I allowed myself 1/3 of a gatorade bottle per day to stave off sugar cravings, which were intense. But those sugar cravings have largely subsided. I still like my sugary drinks, so Ill drink half a bottle once or twice a week. But like you, I feel better than I have in a long time. Quitting alcohol completely has definitely helped im sure.

Keep it up. I've been doing this for about a year. I've lost 65 pounds, feel great and agree with everything you said. I eat one meal a day. (OMAD). I don't feel hungry between meals. So many metabolic issues have simply gone away. I cannot sing the praises of Keto enough. I finally got my wife on it a little over a month ago. Already I am buying new clothes for her and I'm loving it!). 16 pounds down in a month an a half. She used to be starving by breakfast and needed snacks to keep her going. Definitely Insulin resistant. She is also reporting that her hunger is gone, she has fewer night time pees, her sinuses cleared up (crhonic for years), and she loves what the diet is doing to her body. She has a long way to go, of course, as years of insulin resistance have had their effects. The trend is positive, and she is a believer now. Seeing my results were one thing, but seeing it for herself, on her own body, was the clincher... Time to go shopping for clothes again... :D

That's wonderful - congrats! I wish I had energy. I'm tired all the time. (UPDATE: Dec 27, 2021 a large chunk of my fatigue was relieved in 1 day when I stopped eating egg yolks! Been supplementing with niacin & other Bs. Food intolerances, like eggs and pork, just drained me. What a difference!) I've been eating keto+IF since July 2020, then started eating ketovore in Sept 2020. I lost 8 pounds in the first two months and have much less joint pain. But I really looked forward to more energy and that hasn't happened yet (food intolerances). I'm 64 female, 5'4" with about 15-20 (now 10#) pounds to lose. Oh, and I have a hard time getting sufficient potassium. Already supplement with 3000mg KCL per day! I started eating paleo in 2012, but my metabolism is slow. Been reading ALL the books. Since I started taking Lugol's 2% IODINE (about 5 weeks now), I've been sleeping much better!

this is awesome, I'm a post menapausel woman, who lives in a cold state, so I'm waiting to do my daily walks with dogs in the next few weeks, my keto struggle has helped me lower my a1c numbers, given me energy, helped my hair/nails/skin and I have more energy then I have had since my 40's. I hate to excercise though, I feel like I'm burning energy I could use cleaning my yard, house, doing stuff....I refuse to weight myself till this summer, I think I'll have lost at least 10 lbs since last September, my clothes fit better so I'll never go back to eating the diet (SAD), that gave me type 2. I have familial hyperlipidemia, my body makes too much fat regardless of how clean I eat, so I was scared of keto. Started IM first for 18 months, then got tested and cholesterol was normal for the first time in 25 years, so I let my son talk me into keto. Already a huge Dr Berg fan, but avoided keto. I'm 34, and had been trying to just wing low carb for about a month and ended up gaining 2 lbs and I craved carbs like crazy, I have been fully Keto for only 6 days and already feel amazing. I have lost 4 lbs (water weight but still losing inches due to decreased inflammation) a win. The intense carb cravings are gone. I am telling everyone I know about it, have been doing so much research that now my husband lovingly sighs with a small eye roll everytime I say the word Keto. Inspite of all the positive effects I still feel slightly nervous everytime I add butter, cheese or full fat anything to a dish it has been so firmly ingrained in the psyche that it's a mini struggle. But the health effects especially my blood glucose levels (type 2 diabetic) really keeps me going. I think it's almost criminal the lies that have been told and I wouldn't be surprised to find out they were fueled by Big Pharma to keep people sick.

Dr. Berg videos are great too, and there are other KZbin channels that focus on various aspects of keto and health. Dr. Fung is one; Thomas DeLauer is one; Headbanger's Kitchen for the recipes; KetoConnect for the average guy wondering and researching about keto kinds of things, and I'm sure there are lots more. Education is the key. Dr. Berg's approach: you don't "lose weight to get healthy," you get healthy FIRST and then you lose the weight. A healthy body cannot hold on to excess weight. It's so exciting to see all of this excellent health care education available to us for free on KZbin and thank you, Dr. Berry!

The fact that one life & body is always uniquely our own one, vegan foods still could bring no good. It all depends on the one's life & the condition, all their inside body. I so agree. Everyone loses at a different rate, even on the best diet for their bodies. And everyone's nutritional needs might be a little different. Thank goodness keto is a diet that allows for variety between more plant-based and more meat, so we can each experiment and see which foods we need more of and which ones we need less of. My keto plate may look way different than yours. And that's ok, if we're each eating exactly what our bodies are asking for. No need to compare to anyone else...only compare where we are to where we were before we started.

Thank you for all the videos Dr. Berry. Your a truely special person. God Bless you and your family. Could you do a video on kidneys, uric acid and excess protein consumption and negative side effects of it (ex: bubbly urine) and how to fix it? Would be good to get ur take on it. I am sure it would benefit alot of people to recognize this issue and how to fix it if you become CKD stage 1 thru 3.

Im 55 and have been eating carnivore for a year now. I have always been slim, but had the dad gut from the traditional American diet. I was a dark chocaholic, and always eating cookies, pastries, and chips. Now I eat ribeyes for lunch and dinner. Absolutely now craving for sweets now, and my energy is constant. I ride my mountain bike 3 days a week, and lift weights twice a week. No dad gut, I’m at my high school weight and same waist size too. I chose this diet because I had digestive issues and from people antidotal stories thought it could help me. It has! To me its now a way of life not a diet.

I'm intrigued about a keto diet, and am considering trying it. What if you like the weight you're at (more or less), but just want to think more clearly (decrease brain fog) and have good energy? Does anyone have insights or suggestions to share?
@precursors
@precursors 3 жыл бұрын
@@roseschulze1647 Brain cells can't function without fat, so Keto does help a lot in clarity of mind. There are many stories and testimonies on internet about how Keto helped people in that regard. But if we're talking about the brain fog due to old age, more brain exercise is required. Learning a different language, solving puzzles etc. any activity to push the brain helps.
@roseschulze1647
@roseschulze1647 3 жыл бұрын
@@precursors Thank you for your comments. I guess I'd be referring to brain fog due to perimenopausal hormone level changes. In my case, my job is very mentally challenging and I do various games and puzzles outside of that. Low iron levels exacerbate the brain fog, and it had gotten to the point where I considered quitting my job for one less mentally challenging. I've made various changes that have helped considerably since, but now the "last frontier" for me seems to be related to diet. :) Well....and getting back into the gym. Lol

I asked her what she had for breakfast and she said cereal! Ah duh, you never even started keto because you're a sugar addict. I am 70. When I was a kid if you wanted to lose weight you quit eating or cut down on bread, sweets and potatoes. We knew more then. That was the advice then. Still works today but then people were not as fat and sick. Didn’t know anyone with diabetes. Oh, another thing was we were told not to eat between meals as we would spoil our supper. The state and fate of western humanity has gone horribly wrong. Even my own 13 yr o,d granddaughter has been on mood drugs for 2 years. Keto can help but my daughter thinks it’s too hard to wean her off the crap so pop the pills. I am truly sad about that. We have to be the physical presence and economic push of change even if those around us are disastrously blind. It is a disaster. Take care and keto on.

Cindi Estess I kind of remember. My own dieting began in 1968 when my hubby was in college and I worked. Twiggy was around and I thought I had to look like that and I ended up with bulimia. I was young and in retrospect I was thin anyway. My first fad (then) 1968 was the Stillman Diet and that was low carb. Then stillman was murdered by his bonkers girlfriend. I was a mess with disordered eating until around 1981 when I overcame the bulimia but it took a couple of years to eat normal. Just in time for the low fat debacle. 🤪😱🙄Low carb has always worked for me. I was Paleo first and now Keto has improved my health, weight and mood the most. I’m in. 70 ain’t so bad this way!!

I started keto, but not for weight loss, just to get healthier. I am late 20s, woman, 5.6ft, 120lbs, anemic, depression, anxiety (general and PTSD). I was underweight for over a year (90-110lbs). I definitely have some residual issues from that. I do a lot of yoga and homeschool 2 Young kids. Well, when i started keto, I felt a light bulb go off. I started feel so much calmer, less depressed, less anxious, more energy, better focus. I know some studies have shown an improvement of mental health and focus. Bacon cooked in grass fed butter is the best pre-yoga food. Focus. Strength. Energy. Animal farm is a super food. I love your videos, love the Texas accent, makes me want to move back to the great city of Houston. Thanks for the info!

My son saw my good results in 2021 when I was on keto. He's not overweight, but expressed interest in it. When I tried explaining what I had learned about the diet, I could see the doubt and worry about the amount of fat in the diet, because of all the erroneous information we were fed for all those decades. I told him that my A1Cs and the other labs were great and I had quickly dropped 20 lbs. I told him that he get good information from your channel and others. During the lockdown last year, I got bored and starting eating those evil carbs. For some reason it's harder to start again than it was the first time, but I'm definitely starting over. I had more mental clarity and felt better than I had in a long time. One of THE best things about the diet is that I never had real hunger and could fast for 16 hrs! Thanks for reminding me!

About doing it alone, it's hard because 90% of your environment will judge you, especially when you start getting some visible results! I actually found motivation and strength in that! The most judgemental person was "friend" that denies her bulimia, even if you catch her vomiting. Family was concerned, but accepted my choice, and tried to adjust meals to my preference. Coworkers were the funniest, they were curious what I have for my meal, an and were inspired to change there eating habits by bringing home prepared meals instead of bakery "food". So I think that my decision to try something goods for my self, had some benefits for my environment! So if anyone considers to try this lifestyle, I encourage them to try for six months, and try to do thay best. Then you will see how this lifestyle effects you and your surrounding, and is this for you or not.

Yeah...I mean...I never really notice what other people decide to eat...unless it's something that looks really good that I'd also like to have...but it just normally doesn't even cross my mind to think about it ...So why all the people apparently are judging others like that doesn't make sense to me...unless someone is making a big deal to others about what they are eating. Then yes you may be likely to get feedback from other people.

When I was in my 20's I was doing keto & never knew it. I never felt so good or looked better or had more energy than I did then. I'm definitely going back to it. I suffer severe pain from multiple spine problems, arthritis in spine being one of them so I'm truly hoping going to keto will help. There are days I almost can't take one more minute of 24/7 pain & as of 2016 with the CDC guidelines, I no longer receive meds that help with the pain. When I did, I was active, worked, could cook right. Now it hurts to shop, stand to cook clean etc. I used to be able to ride motorcycles through the Yukon to alaska & all over the US. All within reason of course. But now, no. So please, wish me luck. It's more than just inflation, but it's a start to lower that.
