I'm not a flight attendant but I do work for an airline so I travel quite a lot too. I agree with most of the points you make but travel cubes are definitely the way to go for me. I've managed to save more space because of it, as long as you still roll your clothes and pack it tight. It's pretty good at compressing your clothes and keep it organized at the same time. Plus, it also works as a laundry bag and you can put your loose items in it (like your tubs, chargers, etc) so you don't have to dig through your luggage if it doesn't have a ton of pockets. I managed to fit 4-5 days worth of clothes in a 17" carry-on suitcase with the same tips Becca provided in this video.

I know just about everyone depends on their cellphone for GPS etc, but when you're in an unfamiliar place you should depend on a regular paper map. It can save your life. Your cellphone can be stolen, accidentally break or get lost but you'll always have your map and nobody will steal it.

I am learning a lot from your videos! My experience with packing cubes has been great. They may or may not save space, but what I like is that I can just pull out one or two as needed and set them on the bed, etc, then close my suitcase. I also like that every type of clothing has it's own pouch. Keeps my suitcase neat and organized.

You gotta do a video of 'Luggage Tracking Tags' since the biggest issue airports are dealing with is lost luggage. Thank you for your suggestions! I love packing cubes ! They are not wasted space, they allow more space! They keep me organized, yes and more than that they keep clothes , and various items organized. Added pluses are you can pack one for easy take out for a one nighter without lugging your whole suitcase in...I do this for road travel. On an International flight you can pack one with all you are going to need and use on the flight i( iPad, earbuds, slippers, inflatable neck roll, etc. ) and keep it in your overhead carry on...take it out after on plane and ready for take off. Also, I will leave my items in the packing cubes when using hotel drawers...keeps me organized and you never know what has been in that drawer previously. How about revisiting packing pouches?! Also, if you don't have enough packing cubes, plastic bag work. .. just press all the air out of them before you pack. (With your hands, not a vacuum) Less expensive too. ❤️

Becca, I have a couple of the items that you listed, especially the Anker charger. I also have to comment about packing cubes- we are a family of 5 and try to keep the luggage count to a minimum. We did a trip from NY to Hawaii on carry-ons only and the packing cubes really helped out- we only took 4 days worth of clothes for an 11 day trip but had access to laundry services. It is a great way to keep the clean and dirty separate when changing location. The trip this year was to SC and we skipped the multicarry-on because we a) didn't have to pay bag fees and b) were lugging golf clubs too. Everyone had 3 packing cubes and they all got distributed between the golf bags and luggage so everyone had clothes in case a bag got lost (and of course everyone had 1 more in a single carry-on in case the unimaginable happened!). I LOVE them.

I have found using the plastic closers like on a bread package works well for securing cords, also rubber bands for longer cords. I have used ziplock bags to “flatten down” - i.e. remove the air from packages of underpants, bras, sweaters, tops - I fill them & press the smaller gallon-sized ones with my hands - the large size bags for sweaters etc. I sit on and then close the zipper. I got the idea from some bags we bought - but these are handy and really cheap!!! I use Ziplock bags to keep small items organized in backpack - to keep earphones from getting all tangled up in other cords etc. (We go to some dance camps where we stay in bunk houses like at a kids’ camp (YMCA etc). Usually sleep on the lower bunk and have the upper bunk for clothes etc. I just keep my underwear etc. In the opened ziplock bags - really keeps it neat and easy to find what I want.

Hey, what do you think about two-wheeled suitcases vs spinners? I want a two-wheeled suitcase because I don't trust the teeny wheels on the spinner ones, and I've heard they don't work well on anything except extremely flat, smooth surfaces (like airport terminals), and I'll be going over cobblestones and grass and stuff. They're so hard to find, though - everything seems to be spinners. What's so great about spinners?

I didn't like my wheeled carry on. The wheels and handle took up space where I could put stuff, so now I carry a travel backpack (like Rick Steves recommended). However, looking for something near the bottom is a pain. Travel cubes with see through mesh make looking for something easy peasy. Generally, there's no weight restriction for carry on, and I can smoosh 40+ lbs in my 46 liter pack. I'm nearly 70, and because the straps and hip belt are well made, I carry it pretty easily up to a few miles. My under seat bag has wheels, and if need be, I attach my pack to it. I know it's reversed from how most people carry, but I can carry significantly more than my travel companions. Love your videos. Thank you!

One more idea that I use all the time. I use the little screw-top contact lens cases for small amounts of creams etc. - amazing how much will fit in those 2 little sections - they do not leak and can be used for liquid as well as cream/ointment type products. Right now I am needing to use a gel for pain in my back - amazingly I use less than half of the amount in one side of the contact lens case for my whole mid-back - so easy, fits in all purses - just can refill when I am at home so carry this every day in my purse or even pocket of pants.

For SD cards, I like the credit card sized cards with slots on the inside. Two pieces that lock together. They have spaces for regular SD and micro SD. And for a few SIM cards. Mine says Lynca storage card case on the front. For many SD cards there are small «booklets» or storage cases that can’t be bent. I like storing the card in a zipped leather card case.

They saved me when I've been selected for a personal bag searches at security. I've had this happen in both the US and in Beijing. The thought of having to repack individual items is just a big no for me, they were able to pull out the packs and scan them individually to find what they weren't sure about. I'm human, I make mistakes with packing. Once it was a metal nail file I flaked and packed, and the second time it was a cloisonne vase I purchased in Beijing and packed in my clothes to protect it. Another time the zipper on a friend's tried and true travel bag broke during flight and her underwear paraded down the luggage conveyor belt, she went out and bought packing cubes after that incident! (and a new bag....)

I have a question regarding luggage. nowadays you can hardly get any 2-wheel suitcases anymore. Only old once or cheap brands and so on. Though I like 4-wheels for my big suitcase, that I may need only every other year (because I am of small height - has to do with the weight), I prefer the 2-wheels for the middle sized suitcase. Because I go by public transport a lot and also have to take stares, when coming home; also because in the different destinations often one has to walk a lot with all the luggage and take stairs, cross streets and side walks etc. With a good 2-wheeler that has the right wheels, it is easy. With 4-wheels it is so much harder. Even with the samsonites. I heard from a sales person in a samsonite store, that they and most competitors almost all produce 4-wheel ones only now, because they are popular. I only saw one with 2-wheels that was in a shape of a rucksack, which I didn't want. So, if that is the future, what do we do with all that uneven roads and stairs and so on? what do you see coming, to help with the challenges of city trips? living in a city, where I go to the airport by public transportation of course also the walking around in my home town is a challenge. esp. since I should lift weights that much. please keep us updated on that front.

Loved this summary of travel items, and picked up a couple new ideas! Thanks! ... but I have question-- I noticed the travelpro you linked to doesn't have four casters. I find 4 casters make it easy to push the case sideways down the narrow path towards your seat, super easy when standing in security lines, or rushing along concourses when a two-wheel case can tip. Do you find this case travels easily enough you don't miss the option to push it while upright?? and have you ever used a good quality four-caster case for a comparison??

I find the 'clip on' thing to attach the handbag to the rollerblade quite useful. Could you tell me what is it and if I can get that separately?

Do you have any recommendations for a travel pillow? My travel pillows have been pretty ineffective on my last couple of flights. The just don’t hit the back of the seat at a supportive angle or something. I’ve about given up on them.
