Honestly, as a shop owner, I highly recommend you keep that brake lathe! Prices are so high for new rotors now that it makes it worth turning ( most times) and with EV I do believe we will see an increase in brake turning jobs in the very near future. Congrats my man!

When its just you and your thoughts and nobody around sucking up your valuable oxygen, no phones ringing. your mind will be at its best. I find most great IDEAS come to me when im working that mop …all the daily stress goes away and Its a good work out plus cleanliness is next to godliness I'm told. I TOTALLY agree on needed an open bay also. Lots of stuff you will be doing and will want the doors all the way open and not worry about hitting a lift... Etc.. Plus you need that space for using the camera. When doing certain footage angles and such. Def a good move! I love your location by the way.. Its perfect.

I did my shop when I built it with 12 fixtures of LED's right off the bat (had conventional tubes for years at my last shop) - they're incredible. Super low power consumption, nice color temperature (6500K). No 'buzz' of ballasts or anything. You'll love 'em!

Great choice for color temp for a work area. Back in the mid 90’s, I represented a giant electric utilities lighting program here in Michigan well before the era of LED’s. I had LEDS before bout anyone for both my house and flashlights

When I swapped out everything in my shop to LEDs the electric company sent somebody out to inspect my meter. They know I'm an electrician and thought I was tampering with the meter. I'm in process of swapping everything in my house to new LED fixtures a few at a time. Adding some new ceiling fixtures in places where they wasn't thinking when they built the place also. Dives me nuts that none of the 4 closests or even the pantry have any light in them. Those wall mounted fixtures can be easily retrofited to LED bulbs without having to install all new fixtures. Might be a bit cheaper unless you have some purpose use fixtures in mind for them.

Make sure you check all your hoist to floor fasteners. Those production mechanic shops often run them hard and never check torque.

So how much light are you going to loose when the shop get fully up and running and during business hours all the bay doors are open and blocking the 5 LED lights closest to the bay doors? I mean most shops during hours keep all the bay doors open, or at least they do where I'm from. You might need to redo the 5 by the bays to drop below the bay doors when there open and put them between each of the doors.🙂 Also you said that the last 2 small bays were the lube bays. Maybe sense you have the brake lath you could turn the last 2 smaller bays into a full service area, ya know brake jobs, all fluid changes, Parts repair things like fuel pumps, radiators, lights you name it, anything just short of a full engine or trans replacement unless you would want to do that to. You could be a one stop shop. Get your auto pimped out and repaired all under the same roof. Like how things are coming sofare and keep up the good work.👍

Regarding the four lights by the doors, the bay doors can be opened about 9-10 feet before the lights get covered, plus the daylight coming in will help. And that is a good idea for bays 1-2 for sure! We want to be as full service as possible

I can't stress enough the importance of cable and lock maintenance on that 4-post lift! The height locks will save your life when the cable snaps. My father had a 4-post well known brand at his shop with an Escalade being raised and when it was about 4' up when the cable snapped and sent the thing through the locks and slammed on the ground. Lift maintenance and inspection in general is critical, but we were told those 4-post are even more critical since the cable is so long.
