The Acolyte reviews have praised Star Wars turning to be Reylo fanfic. As Amandla Stenberg falls for a Sith Lord again, The Acolyte isn't targeted at the normal audience. In fact it is aimed to be exactly the opposite in both target demographic and moral lens. While this has had the effect of crashing the audience score, Leslye Headland doesn't seem to care about reviews at all. Instead seemingly to love the reviews about how thirsty all of the interviewers are. Turning the entire show into just fawning over the evil man in the script. The show definitely achieved it's singular goal. To not appeal to the audience. But the issue is, as Leslye Headland is writing what she knows, and all of the critical reviewers double down on feelings over analysis. Will ANYONE be sane enough to realise, this isn't the basis of a story. And these are the easiest, most basic, by default obtained audience you can get. But what did you think? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)
@MarsM134 ай бұрын
They want sooooooo badly to replace the old audience of Star Wars with the sort of women who love "Twilight" and "Fifty Shades of Grey". It makes a weird kind of sense: Disney's core audience has always been girls who fantasize about being princesses. So when they acquired Star Wars and Marvel, they immediately started thinking of ways to pull in the older versions of that audience: women who fantasize about being seduced by dangerous, sexy men, and "fixing" those dangerous, sexy men into family-men.

As for Luke and the dark side- Luke became a greater jedi than both of his masters because he improved the concept of the jedi by saving his father through love, as well as had enough willpower to stop himself from falling to the dark side, denying Palpatine the future he has forseen. Right after that he threw away his saber, his mission complete. Winning with Palpatine without fighting him directly, denying him a new apprentice and defeating the previous one, showing the selflessness of a true jedi. There is no greater jedi in the history of star wars than Luke for those reasons alone. He became a jedi his father always wanted to be, a hero who will come to save you no matter how far you're gone and how hopeless you feel. Saying that Luke had to embrace the dark side is so fundamentally wrong I can pretty much ignore everything that person is saying about star wars.

My son has showed me the clips from the show, and we thought the kid did a rather good job--going from a snarky smart-aleck (although evil enough to help poison people) to someone sinister and serpentine when he was killing people. It seemed like good acting, especially from that crowd. Now, all the women are neglecting how the actor did, effecting that character change, and only going on about how sexy he is. Isn't that what they claim to be evil in men? Why did they even make this poor boy run around without his clothes on? So that Lesbians could leer? Why would they? So that straight women could leer? Isn't that also predatory? So that Gay men could leer? Isn't that still the dreaded male gaze? The poor kid did a good turn in his role, dropping the character's "mask" of being relatively harmless and hapless in front of Sol, and this is the thing he's praised for--his outer shell. Good work, ladies. Wonderful how you rose above what went before.

Thank you. I put a similar comment in an earlier video where I noted that there's a big difference between a smuggler who basically only does financial damage to the government and a murderer who not only encouraged someone to assassinate four people who were just living their lives but who also dropped in out of nowhere to attack and kill a large number of people. He claims to have done it in self-defense but they didn't know he was there until he attacked! He could have easily gotten away without the Jedi being any the wiser, especially since none of the Jedi in The Acolyte seem to be able to use the Force to sense anything they can't see with their eyes.

When they write "must learn to accept the Dark Side" what the journalists are doing is showing how they do not understand Star Wars lore (even from the original films). Luke did not accept the Dark Side, he managed to pass through the Dark Side and NOT be fascinated/enthralled it. In doing so, he grew and matured, having passed the test and his reward was self-control and true power over himself, whereas his father had failed that test and had been an immensely powerful warlord enthralled to a master in the person of the Emperor. Luke became free by NOT accepting (giving into) the Dark Side, whereas Vader became the tool of another and the Emperor lost all his humanity, being ruled by his will to dominate. Additionally, they are engaging in that Marxist practice of redefining things to force in their own concepts, thus the Dark Side goes from being the lust for power (bad) to being suppressed desire (good - because all things suppressed are good in their discourse). This being "a female centric" story, therefore accepting the Dark Side does not become either sexual awakening or learning to control one's temper but instead means acting like a bitch on heat AND being in a permanent rage (because justified). This kind of writing is ultimately circular because the character journey is not to grow and mature but to be utterly self-centred and have the social world acknowledge and bow to that "personal knowledge". These people are evil.
@mdberg654 ай бұрын
Of course they are, that's why Headland said in an interview that she identifies as a Sith. She wants the power to do whatever she wants to whoever she wants, regardless of their feelings on the matter. That kind of selfishness that doesn't consider other people's viewpoints as important or meaningful in any way IS evil.

Is he fascinated with her and start to passively break down her resistance to sleeping with him? You betcha! 5. Will she end up "enthralling" him and leading to become her lapdog? Yes. If representation is the goal, Disney has seriously missed the mark. There are plenty of female, gay or black etc people who actually have serious acting and writing chops. But the people they always pick are truly awful representations of non white, non straight male talent.. This will end up doing a lot more damage to their cause in the long run.

The issue is that it's not enough to be non white, non straight, non male but you also need to be actively part of the church of 'woke'. My warning was always that these kind of people are dangerous when they get even a sniff of power as they will relentlessly hire based on ideology and immutable biological characteristics rather than skill and talent. In any case the cause is already dead. We can see it in the general rejection of almost everything connected to the ideology. There are still the thought leaders, the paid shills and the die-hards but most people seem to have agreed that Disney Star Wars is hot garbage.

This whole series is insane... the OT had 3 guys women could have a crush on: a rebellious, rough on the edges adventurer in Han Solo; an idealistic dreamer that becomes the hero in Luke and the suave, charming Lando. They knew they had casted 3 handsome guys. Plenty women had an eye on them. But no one ever thought to change the characters or story to cater to it, all 3 were interesting, intriguing and well acted characters. Neither was evil or a bad guy. Lando had his weak moments obviously but he fought against the empire in the end. Leia was a great character on her own as well. It's disturbing to me anyone would think making a Star Wars show from basically wattpad dark fanfiction
@markuhler26644 ай бұрын
Hell, I'd argue Lando wasn't weak but he had to make tough decisions. Ended up running Cloud City, after a backstory that painted him sketchy, and had to choose between betraying his friend or betraying the people he was supposed to protect as their leader. I don't envy the situation and can't fault him for his decision. And once it became moot he joined the rebellion without hesitation, something even Han didn't do.

Ever since the Rebels series (at least, and maybe earlier) there’s been a drive to amoralize the Force, and this show is the inevitable conclusion of that effort. The dark side users don’t even have distorted eyes anymore, something that clearly shows the audience the evil of the dark side. Count Dooku was only an exception to this rule, but now it’s the other way around. The drive to portray the Jedi as an evil institution instead of a good-but-flawed organization fighting against evil is also disgusting. But, to people who have no morals I’d expect nothing less. I look forward to the day Disney fades into nothingness, and I’ll be happy to contribute to their downfall.

Hedland seems to agree with whichever journalist is feeding her lines. The amount of examples agreed to when asked 'is this what you were going for' proves she didn't have any set ideas. Just liked a scene from this IP and a scene from that with no cohesion and stuck them on screen which shows. Just like when asked 'what's your favourite SW property' her answer was 'all of them'. In other words, she gives it little thought. The journalist was giving that interview on their preferences. She was there to nod her head.
@oddbizarious2244 ай бұрын
@@tkps I think the Reylo influence is pretty clear to see in the episode though. Disney in nigh all of its new Star Wars projects has been trying to cater to a female audience, and one of the loudest female fanbases from recent Star Wars productions has been the Reylos. The scenes are even fairly similar -- Kylo standing there with his shirt off talking to Rey calmly, while Rey is on an island...Rey accusing Kylo of murdering Han Solo, but that accusation doesn't go anywhere and she continues to listen and talk to him... I agree Leslie didn't think through her ideas enough to cohere them in narrative, but several prominent ideas do seem to drive the show. The "appeal to Reylo fans" idea may not have been the most prominent one with the highest priority, but I can see its influence pretty clearly in episode 6.
