This is the only thing that I really didn't like in the movie. The Addams have always been extremely accepting of everyone's tastes, even if they personally disliked them. In each and every version of them, the parents always approved of the kids exploring outside of "creepiness" and trying new, more normal, stuff. This form of two-way bigotism is a good morality at core, but I think very unfitting for the characters. It was one of their biggest and nicest quality.

Things like Morticia having a problem with Gomez inviting his mother over for help, and Gomez not realizing that she didn't like him asking for help feel like lazy sitcom shenanigans. "Oh the husband is an idiot but we love him!" I would've loved to see Morticia instead embrace Gomez and thank him for thinking of her so much. It should be touching that he is worried about her, not embarrassing that he said she 'looked tense.'

The Addams are meant to be accepting and unconditionally loving of one another's decisions even if they don't always personally agree with one another's decisions. Morticia reacting so negatively towards Wednesday here is way out of character.

It's got a few good gags and the character designs are based off the original comics, but the move does miss the mark on what made them so enjoyable in the first place. Honestly my favorite versions are still the original TV series and the 90s movies, where they were a loving family who didn't realize just how off-putting their dark tastes were to everyone else.

@@cybernurgle6413 ye, I'm aware But personally, the only character who looks nice with that inspiration in mind is Morticia (Gomez also looks alright: he seems to resemble his comic counterpart the most) Wednesdays forehead is really huge compared to her design in the comics afaik, and they really squished Pugsley's facial features downward, which also makes his head look pretty huge (but I do prefer his design to Wednesday's)

Honestly, most of the voice cast for this could have easily done an amazing live action version: Oscar Isaac as Gomez, Charlize Theron as Morticia, Bette Midler as Granny Frump, heck, Finn Wolfhard and Chloe Grace Moretz could have done the kids well if they'd been made up just right (Probably not AS the kids of Isaac and Theron though).
