Hi Devlin, this was a great video about the ADDIE model. I've actually started learning instructional design and I am working on my portfolio. As I watch more of your videos, I discover that I like to do more on the 'Analysis, Design, Evaluation' parts. As an educator, I feel more competent and confident doing these roles. However, the development and implementation part especially with all those authoring tools aren't something that I seem to be liking. So how do I navigate myself around this? If I were to apply for jobs, do companies have their own team of developers and I work with them? And how do I show this interest of mine to potential clients or hiring managers?

If you had to breakdown the phases into real world action items/deliverables, how would you categorize them? I see the video provide the concept, but it would be great to hear how and where it ties using the terminology used in the portfolios your ID's showcase! For example, during the Analysis phase, it would be the information gathering portion of with the SME? Then would the Action Map fall under that as well? In the real world, lets say a client lacks specific data but they know an issue. What if someone were to take raw data being recorded, do pivot table reporting and analysis to find specific data driven trends such as week over week? Based on what is seen with portfolios, the Development phase includes, the Text-based storyboard, Visual Mock ups, and Interactive Prototype with multiple back and forth review and revisions with other IDs, the SME and applicable stakeholders ideally. Is this where these deliverables fall? The Full Development is the Design portion finalizing all the media and graphic related assets which is articulated beautifully in the video. Implementation could possible be the LMS administrator or Instructor/Trainer sending out the course to the audience which is self explanatory. Evaluation, in addition to employee surveys how else would the results of the course be measured? Could they potentially use the pivot table mentioned earlier and do a comparison week over week? As always, great explanation @DevlinPeckYT !

It seems like companies would, most of the time, conduct their own analysis/needs assessment as they would be the most knowledgeable individuals regarding their company's needs - not an Instructional Designer. I have 10+ years writing grants for fire departments who provided me with their needs so that I could begin to design and develop the grant; I am not a firefighter so would not even know what I don't know. I appreciate any feedback you have on this concern.

Good question! Many companies will have a subject matter experts (SME) to work with IDs as they identify needs and objectives for their learners. Uncovering the most relevant information is a huge step in the process! This video might give you more insights: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXOpgp2crc2UkJY Thanks for watching!

Hi Devlin! This is a great, bite-sized description of the ADDIE process. I am fairly new to the field of instructional design as a practitioner. Given your experience, could you speak to the benefits and challenges of using more simplified models of instruction design such as SAM? Do you recommend models such as SAM as preferable compared to ADDIE? Thanks for your feedback!
@DevlinPeckYT
@DevlinPeckYT 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony! Thanks for checking out the video (and welcome to the field). Some companies prefer SAM...but I have yet to find a company or team that uses any ID process to a T. I am sure SAM would be great if executed as outlined. But most companies are using modifications of processes or blends of many :D

Hey Devlin, Could you please clarify about the tasks which u explained under Job Task Analysis? What kind of tasks we have to break down?
@DevlinPeckYT
@DevlinPeckYT 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Himani! Good question. With a JTA, you'd want to identify every task that an employee must complete. You'd then have employees rate each task (1-5) in terms of difficulty, frequency, and importance. This data helps inform your training design (so that you know which tasks to prioritize training for).

What do you think are the Pros and cons of Addie model?
@DevlinPeckYT
@DevlinPeckYT 3 жыл бұрын
I think the pros are that it helps people get a good idea of what an ID should generally be capable of (and an overarching view of their general responsibilities). I don’t think many people are using ADDIE exactly though...mainly because it’s quite rigid and not super flexible in its original form.
@ryudragonpunch9025
@ryudragonpunch9025 10 ай бұрын
I personally favor ADDIE as an idea model in developing training. However unlike the SAM model, ADDIE is a lengthy and sometimes costly process. Working in the federal/military sector the higher ups demand rapid results to issues that require more time than allotted. Which is one reason ADDIE ironically enough doesn’t work in some training development situations in today modernized military environment.
@DevlinPeckYT
@DevlinPeckYT 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing that perspective! ADDIE is great, but definitely doesn't fit every case.
