Sherlock Holmes’ methods are infectious; I found I had absorbed them unconsciously, simply by reading the stories. Those skills came in handy when I worked at a hardware store. I occasionally mystified customers by telling them precisely where they lived after talking to them for only a few seconds. In some cases I knew what they needed before they could tell me, with no obvious clues. Logical conclusions based on the observation of small details which, when explained, didn’t seem so mysterious. Elementary.

So true. Try Dubliners and Grimms Fairy Tales and curiosity shop by Dickens. Also there is a long british history one that is a snooze so to speak.

I've been a fan of these 56 shorts and four novels since 1968 when I was 10 years old and discovered them in the local library. The audiobooks are just amazing and make it so I can do artwork or crosswords or sudoku as I'm drifting off at night. I have no idea why the Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes is unavailable when I remember listening to it a few years ago. Anyway, the good doctor or Doyle himself would certainly realize that cocaine produces anything BUT a drowsy or lethargic state of mind. Honestly, though, there is no part of these writings that annoy me more than a chuckles worth of energy but I wonder if there are others out there who've noticed the cocaine discrepancy or have any clue as to why the "Case-Book" recordings are no longer available on youtube?
@iroquoisplissken35836 жыл бұрын
Karl Nordquist probably didn’t know much about drugs and picked the wrong name for the effects they were describing. That kind of thing happened all the way up to and even past the late1960’s.
@10yearsgone103 жыл бұрын
Yea as someone who used to inject cocaine.. I definitely noticed that discrepancy. I got a funny image of Sherlock in his apartment with the shades drawn peeking out of them paranoid af but still banging coke like every 20-30 minutes whenever he felt his heart calming back down just enough. Lol

Well, to quote Pierce Brosnan's line in Mrs Doubtfire, "Your accent's a bit muddled." Where is this narrator from ?
@veritas63352 жыл бұрын
The Noble Bachelor is an unfinished story - as the lady in question is,at the end, guilty of bigamy and that problem remains unaddressed by Holmes or the other characters. The story structure is a strange contrivance that doesn't really work well.

There are background noises like meowing cats or crying babies. Too Distracting. 'SH Magpie radio' is better recording, but this one is good second choice.

@otravez39167 жыл бұрын
Audiobooks Unleashed The audio is SLOW. Not by much, but slow nonetheless. That is David Clarke narrating. The best narrator in the history of sound recording. But thanks for the effort. You get a B-minus. Sorry.
@tokyonightdreams7 жыл бұрын
I didn't change the audio speed. Did I? I'm pretty sure I didn't... I can't imagine why I would do that. I did lower the pitch of his voice slightly, so maybe that is why you think it's slow? I edited this when I was starting out, one of the first ones I did, so I didn't know much. I could probably do better today but there is too much other stuff that I have to work on. It's alright that you don't like it, I get it, I just got really confused by your comment.
