Are you being conned? Our relationship with alcohol is often complicated, and masked by our own reassurances that we are in control. Michaela Weaver offers her own personal insight into how alcohol can con us, and what we can do about it. An ex-drinker herself, Michaela now has complete control over alcohol and drinks exactly what she wants to, and when she chooses. That for her is none. Michaela is a masters-level executive coach, and a life and wellbeing coach. As a science graduate, she brings a scientific approach to all her methods, coaching and programs, and has trained in methods for therapeutic change, and addiction treatment. Prior to starting The Alcohol Coach she was a change specialist and coaching trainer for 20 years This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Michaela I'd love to give you the warmest hug for this above Ted talk. It's woken me up and because of crippling anxiety I hope against hope I've had my last drink yesterday for life. Thank you so very much for talking about the 100% con artist alcohol is. Sending you much love and all the best wishes. You are wonderful.

@WhoStoleMyXanax I'm in and out of it. Really, more often than not. I've found that proper replacement of habit or religious engagement/conversion are the only non-medical or non-interventional ways of dealing with it. So I'm gearing to go that route

I found it interesting as the world shut down during the pandemic....the liquor stayed open.......

I wonder whether that had to do with the large number of alcohol dependent people ODing and draining health services. Alcohol has such a stronghold on people- many would have lost it if they weren’t open. Probably due to boredom not being able to go out. I totally agree though, it is interesting!

You know, the government likes us hooked on things why do you think they keep alcohol legal? Why do you think they hand it out so many painkillers back in the day the more addicted we are as a society, the more money they make and they don’t care what it costsfamilies they either make it by rehab psychiatrist or the penal system mostly the penal system because most people can’t afford a psychiatrist which is $350 an hour

Benzos are the most addictive

Benzos and alcohol they have the same mechanism they are equal. These are the only two drugs that you can die from detoxing yourself. They are one in the same.

By the way, benzos are in a low class schedule because they’re not as addictive as alcohol and alcohol is nowhere. I like it how they separate drugs and alcohol when alcohol is a drug.

Sorry, but this is exactly what you would expect to hear from an addict. Always blaming the addiction. Alcohol by itself and in moderate consumption is not the problem. Most of us have an addictive personality, but it is not always alcohol...…..
@MichaelaWeaver

Not blaming the addiction, but maybe the advertising and society for selling us an addictive drug. It is also widely understood that the term 'addictive personality' isn't valid. Because of our innate biology anyone can become addicted to addictive substances.

No such thing as an addictive personality but there is something different in the way that they think I had a drug addicted daughter for eight years, who is now been sober for almost 3 years people use drugs to escape from reality. Their reality not necessarily truthful one, they just perceive things quite differently, a lot of it comes from sadness, boredom, loneliness, unhappiness with themselves we don’t have psychologist or psychiatrist here that’s for sure or a good mental health system at all
