I don't think it's right that Netflix brands so much content as "original". This is not a Netflix production. Netflix had no hand in its creation. Netflix has bought distribution. That's not the same thing.

Without the many millions netflix pay TNT it would be cancelled. Those who fund a show, get to claim ownership. Its probably owned by TNT and Netflix

Exactly, that bothers me too. They do that a lot with Korean dramas as well, many of which are public broadcasters' productions, ie paid by the Korean tax payer. Cheeky of a private company to then buy streaming rights and think that it allows them to claim those productions as their own "originals".

Nowhere on this page or in the video did it say Netflix produced it. The Netflix logo universally means that this show was or is streaming on Netflix. If you need to say out loud that Netflix is a distributor, you have been behind the ball for years.

I finished season 2 yesterday and ... gosh, what an awesome ride. Everything was perfect. The actors and their characters were stellar, the production was top notch, the costumes were divine (I could watch the series over and over for Sara's outfits alone), the stories were dark and complex, the dialogues were ace, the placement of famous characters along the way and the social and political sub-stories was a very nice touch. One of the best shows in my book. Now, to the studios behind this kind of shows (Carnivale, Mindhunter, The Alienist, Archive 81, ...): it is getting really annoying that you grant us with 1 or 2 seasons of great shows only to cancel them and leave us hanging. It's hard to start watching a series nowadays and invest in a story and its characters, knowing too well that it might be cancelled at one point because it might be too deep for "common audiences". This is getting really (really) frustrating.

Yes, streaming has a bad habit of doing that, especially Netflix. But in the case of The Alienist, only two books have been written, so the plan from the start was two seasons.

I just finished watching this, it absolutely stunning, from the storytelling, the plot twist, cinematography and the characters are just amazing. Now my standards are high and I can't seem to enjoy or like anything to watch at the moment. Hoping for season 2.

John is definitely my favorite character. He's the reason I still watch this series. Humane, conflicting and straightforward. He is also compassionate in a way. I also like Roosevelt, it's kinda sad he's not "active" in the investigation but geared towards political and bureaucracy matters, I wish his character will show struggles of doing both. Sara is amazing, I can feel her tension to exist in the society and her own drive to go forward equally. Connor is good, his bad guy agenda really felt like there's snakes inside the justice system. The two Jews bros (Lucius and Marcus), especially Lucius is my favorite. He is passionate to show how "science" can be an "uncomfortable" thing in this era, but his jumpy nerdy character also kinda feels uncomfortable to be providing explanation for it. His bro Marcus is kinda meh to me, pretty face but I wish he isn't "wild" but somewhat nerdy too to prove how "uncomfortable" the pursuit of science is at that time. Mary is so beautiful, never seen one so mesmerizing. The problem I have is the main character, Laszlo. I don't dislike him, but he is uninteresting to push the show. He has a weakness, but his weakness has no such hold or power in his pursuit to understand human mind. He's like a "perfect" Gary Sue, or something like that. He is kinda boring at times too, sure being a "doctor" is boring but he's an alienist, show us some form of "crazy" will ya.

THE ALIENIST is one of the best series out there. I was thoroughly engrossed by season 1 and 2. Creepy Gothic Victorian New York with lots of twists, and suspense. Excellent acting on the show and costumes/sets are superb. Completely immersive. Truly brilliant esp. season 1.

The beauty of this show is so unlike anything. There is no comparison. Some are describing it as a Victorian Mindhunter or Criminal Minds, but it is much more than that. This is based on a book of course, but Dr. Kreizler’s character alone learns to evolve and adapt to the fact that he doesn’t know nearly as much as he thought he did and he has to change his entire perspective on things. Just to clarify Forensic Psychology is what I aspire to do and that is what this show revolves around. Absolutely love it.

The best thing about this show is the incredible production design. You really do feel lke you are in 1900 New York, and the series doesn't shy away from the shittier conditions of life back then. The tenements with water running down the walls and 14 people living in two rooms...good lord!

Mystery/thriller (and sci-fi) are my favourites! I might have to give this one a watch. I don't know if I've gone mad but I love the extreme genres. They definitely paint a picture of the dark and obscure reality of our world. Mary Sean is also in this one! She's great.

@@anisexpert4604This show (if you're talking about The Alienist) is brilliant. It's totally worth a watch. All the actors are 10/10. It's not sci-fi tho. It's a crime drama set in the 19th century and they've weaved in real personalities who existed at the time, like Theodore Roosevelt as a Police Commissioner (which he was before he became President). But the story itself is fiction and based on a book of the same name.
