Love it. I live on a boat, without a lot space to swing a guitar around, and it's the almost perfect guitar for me. The exception being the internal headphone amp has an awfully thin tone, so I'm integrating a VOX AC-30 headphone effects amp and a Bluetooth receiver into the body. That gives me pretty decent tone effects options available right out of the guitar, plus the ability to play over a backing track delivered by any Bluetooth device (phone, PC), without disturbing anybody. Of course you can just plug that headphone/VOX/BT hack into any electric guitar, but this travel guitar seems to beg for integration. At some point I'll do a video and offer how-to files.

@@Axess-sv8nq seriously ? You are claiming the neck and fingerboard material have no effect on the tone of the guitar ? Everything has an effect , and no matter what material the body , and neck may be made of , it is a "tone" material. Different materials vibrate and resonate differently.
@Axess-sv8nq
@Axess-sv8nq 3 жыл бұрын
@@ny7294 Pickups aren't microphones. They don't detect anything other than the magnetic field between the string and the pickup. On acoustic guitars, where the wood resonates and is part of the sound, it's a factor. In an electric guitar, it's not. If you yell into a pickup, and it's NOT wax-potted (which nearly all pickups are), then you will hear your voice. If you yell into one that is wax potted and hear yourself, it's because you're vibrating the strings with your voice. Take a wax-potted pickup out of a guitar and try to speak (or yell) into it. You won't hear a thing. The bridge saddles and the nut don't affect tone either in an electric guitar. They only govern how well the string vibrates and disturbs the magnetic field between the pickup and the string.

Very good review. It's funny, before seing your video I was thinking "this is a guitar for Bruce Wayne" : I own the ALP 80 (SSH with fixed bridge) in Black Stealth finish. I admit I was not expecting such a good instrument at this price range and coming from RPC (old habits I admit). This is not a toy !!! the guitar is very well engineered and built. The pick ups sound great and are very versatile, the guitar stays very well in tune ... it doesn't take place at all when I travel .... what do you want more ? maybe some ENGLISH videos on their website, because I admit I don't know how to set up the guitar and don't know where to begin when I will have to change the strings ! it has become my main guitar, even if I own very more expensive ones such as PRS and Duesenberg and this just because it is very reliable and you "forget" the instrument since it becomes a part of yourself due to the small size and comfort. I play it most of the time with the BOSS Waza Air Headphone which can be fold and stored in the guitar HEAVY DUTY GIGBAG !!! I think the gigbag is built in China by Music Area, I already own one bought at Thomann and it uses the same materials and seems to come from the same factory. My only complain toward the instrument is the state of the frets when I got the guitar and I had to spend some time to polish them.

Diego. I found that, because the body is so thin, there's not much pressure from you arm on the body. The thinnest of the guitar makes it very close to you. So your arm just ends up hanging down in front of you as if you were sitting with your right arm resting on your right leg. I hope that makes sense.

The headpiece needs an integrated method for hanging the guitar on a wall or on a stand from the headpiece. It would be easy for the designers to add such a feature. Most guitars with headstocks can be hung this way because of the headstock shape. Headless guitars need a design feature to allow hanging in the same way. It could be as simple as a recess in the metal with a pin which clips to a lanyard with a loop.

It's a little strange. The upper frame only lock in place with a kind of heavy spring détente, so if you lean back, that part of the fame can be tugged by the strap and semi-fold, out-of-plane with the rest of the guitar, sort of conforming to your own body shape, with the bridge and strings still vertical. The spring détente preload can be adjusted, but that part of the design would be improved, in my view, if the spring plunger had a secure locking position.

I have the Alp AD-80, (w/o whammy bar); it's very good at staying in tune. Most of the strings can be tuned with the knurled, round tuner knobs, but tuning the lower couple of strings is pretty hard on the fingers... then you use the little allen key lever that's magnetically stowed in the bridge.

In concept it's certifiably badass, but in principle, it's really something I can only see people buying for the gimmick behind it. That's 100% a niche guitar. The pickups could be better, the preamp seems fairly limiting, and for the price, I'd say it's easily blown away by most great budget guitars you've reviewed and a nice combo stack. People would save money by getting those, and having a travel guitar like this isn't a big necessity, really. Awesome axe, but there's definite room for improvement, especially with all of the missing space.

Beyond that, I don't think a bad whammy bar would be a deal breaker and I'm sure you had your reasons for not including it in the demo, but for divebomb players, it would be a huge loss.
