Hahah, I am going to share this with my friend group that I bore to no end talking about this game, trying to convince them to play

I feel I have a very unique perspective on this point. I have a love for this game that goes way back when I watched the various anime, DM, GX, 5D's, pretty much all of them on 4Kids on Saturday mornings. I got into the game because of my younger brother and one of my best friends. My brother played endlessly in school with his buddies, while my friend played since the early days. My first deck was a pendulum era deck with the old pendulum field layout on the paper mats, Rise of the True Dragons. At first, I didn't know much about deck building and tried to make things work like they did in the anime. Then I realized that the true rules of the game were far more complex, and I got into trying to understand. I worked hard to get to where I am today with deck building and grasp of the rules. I started playing Master Duel because it offered me a lot of good opportunities for exploring new decks I want to try IRL. It made me generally better at the game. However, not only do I not have YGO locals anywhere that I know of, if the game shops near me do offer them, they probably get minuscule turnout. The only options I have are my brother and my friend. My brother is busy with school, work, and other games while my friend and I are both coworkers at our current job. We don't get much time to play in general. We're all exhausted after work. And that's not to mention my brother has almost lost interest in YGO in general. In contrast, I played fairly regularly with my friend, who for the longest time was stomping me in one-sided blowouts with decks I couldn't overcome. Again, I've gotten better to the point where we're swapping win rates more often than not, but that's beside the point. I have lots of time to play, yet I can't set time aside to play. I have people to play with, but we're all busy and/or not in the mood. My local game shops don't sell a lot of YGO cards, but maybe 1 or 2 offer trivial "locals" that are more just game nights.

Completely relate to this. Like you, I was inspired by the Yugioh anime - for me, it was mainly Zexal. I played with friends in high schools, my first deck being Chronomaly. I was fortunate enough that, when I went to college, I found a club I could continue dueling at. I made some great, lifelong friends there and had a blast playing the game. Nowadays, even though I do have a locals literally only 10 minutes away from me: between work + less of my friends being around, I haven't been playing as much as I used to. Hence why I've pivoted my channel away from showcasing combos/ decklists for the game to more in-depth analysis of the game as a whole. I do have bursts of enthusiasm for Yugioh here and there, but they're farther in-between. Maybe, one day, we'll both have the opportunity to play the game as we did before. On the flip side, it might also be okay to be happy with what memories Yugioh did serve us and to accept that life is going to change irrespective to the past.

I feel this. My best friend plays raidraptors and the matchup is very coin toss dependent and miserable. However, we always have a good time talking about yugioh ideas and strategies.

Your friend must be ecstatic that Raidraptors got new support announced recently :P Yeah, that's one of the downsides with modern Yugioh - sometimes, games are determined purely on the coin toss/ dice roll. I definitely still enjoy playing the game, but being able to talk about ideas and strategies is a nice detour when I'm feeling distaste for or burnt out during a format. Thanks for watching the video :D

yugioh is the best card game there is no alternative

Depends what you like in a game tbh, yugioh has more than its share of problems as well that cannot be overlooked but yeah the nostalgia element is by far the strongest I'll give you that

Another reason is the fans are far too toxic. There's at least 2 yugitubers who I won't name but I've been in their discords before and you would not believe the level of elitism and toxicity there. Not exactly making people want to play, and I've played yugioh since primary school playground when I was like 11, I'm 25 now. Also, cost. Yugioh is extortionate to play compared to other TCGs, combine that with the 5 billion rules, interactions etc you need to learn and its very, very easy to see why this game has not had new players in a long, long time.

Well, this obviously only works for people who already have experience with the game There is nothing worst than a "expert" theorycrafting or cricizing something without having good knowledge of it first
