Man I love Soma so much. I agree with you that the gameplay is meh at best and the monster designs are... Something else. Still, I love how the developers tried to kind of mix this deep-sea-biology-look with a somewhat human form as well some robotic aspects. Little fun fact about the monsters and also spoilers (probably): The big heart-like structure you can see in the SOMA section of the video (Didn't find it again, or I am going insane) is actually an AI. This AI, in combination with the goop, tries to recreate humans again like an AI would: Test one way. Way fails. Test again with minor alteration, and so on. At least that is what I understood so far. The goop has also the curious feature of being able to combine technology and bio-matter through... Magic, I guess. Anyhow. While I do agree that the post-credit section kind of "ruined" the ending, it was interesting to see the survey again you normally do at the start of the game. When I took the survey again and it showed me what I answered the first time, I couldn't identify myself with those answers as extreme as it sounds. Anyway, SOMA gud story, lacking gameplay as Bass put it together beautifully. Keep going my man, love your videos!

I actually like how they did AI in this game instead of the usual AI ROGUE KILL HOOMAN. He kinda wanted to keep them around because he simply did not know what to do with them, so he just put them in some sort of stasis, as he still wanted to protect them, but lacked the morals to do it in a more comfortable way

When you see majority of reviews for games, you have to remember most people are complete casuals, and by casuals, I mean people that can't even be bothered to continue their playthrough after 1 hour and immediately hops back on to play with their friends on apex or warzone lol. My favourite horror games of all time always seem to be survival horrors/ resource management. I think the reason why I love the resident evil series and Silent hill 2 and 3, is that the gameplay itself creates tension with the thought of what will you do next, if you don't have X/Y item in X/ Unknown location that you are about to embark on. I've been playing Security containment breach for the first time ever recently coop with a friend, and honestly I was shitting my self for a good hour and an half, but after dying a few times and understanding how the AI works, and understanding what I needed to, the scary stuff kind of just dissipated away. But what I loved, was how the whole map is basically a pre generated puzzle that you have to figure out whilst dealing with a variety of monsters that have their own counterplay. And you get items with 0 explanation on what to do with them, but u can find pages in the map explaining how to counter monsters or use items, or just figure it out urself most of the time. Without good gameplay mechanics that don't get repetitive ( *Cough cough* Opening and shoving into doors in outlast/ walking around, Or doing shitty animations for every single action you do in alien isolation) , the horror just gets old very fast. I'm glad you made this video to show the absolute shallowness of horror games that only rely on their "horror" and nothing else to show.

Also, you said that you're going to platinum DMC1 before DMC4. Well, I hope you have a big pack of gold orbs ready. Because DMC1's platinum is the HARDEST and the MOST BORING of the entire series!! It requires you to get killed by every single enemy type in the "Dante Must Die" difficulty with low health in order for them to finish Dante with their "Fatality" attacks which adds that attack to the enemy database of the game, this is essential to get the "I Read you like a book" Trophy, which effectively blocks players from EVER getting this MERCILESS Platinum.

Eh, I still love Outlast and think its a alright game. Each jumpscare is different and not a simple PNG flying at your face but yeah none of those jumpscares hit anymore. I replayed it 3-4 times in a total (its a really short game to be honest) for the chases only. I found your channel by your great PD3 video. If you want a great stealth but with a bit horror then I would recommend you the Thief series. Just one disclaimer: You think stealth in PD3 gonna be even more worse after you notice the sounddesign of Thief. xD edit: I def do not agree that Alien Isolation is a good game. Just see the Alien Isolation Video by Under the Mayo. Awful, annoying, not scary and way to strechted out.
@magicschoolbass Жыл бұрын
I played the Thief series a lot, I love it. The reboot is very bad. I like alien isolation a lot, becuase of how AI evolves and adapts to what you do. The fact that you can fight back is also really fucking good, but do that too much and his skin will harden and you won't be able to flame him anymore. And some of the tricks the game pulls on you is really creative. Also the robots terrify me in that game, idk why. And of course, baiting Xeno to attack other people will never stop being fun to me. But, YES, the game is so fucking long it's insane. Why did they make it so long is beyond me.
@realnickhiro Жыл бұрын
@@magicschoolbass Well in the video I recommend he never had a single problem with the Alien in hardmode. The AI was always stupid, he never had problems by using his flamethrower only. Opening doors and throwing items like trashcans make no sound at all (no one is alerted). It also had weird stuff like you cant take the shotgun but the shells itself. I played it myself on hard and also didnt had any problems and just got frustrated more because the Alien is just so annoying. The robots are indeed amazing tho and I probably laughed my ass off more than I got scared when I baited Xeno as well. Its not bad by any means but I wouldnt call it one of the best horror games. @@magicschoolbass for starters the bike riding is VERY buggy and repetitive. The game also felt much easier than the first one (mainly due to it having no hard mode) so replies aren't even that fun. And its greatest offense is that it shows you the default sword from the first game in the main hub, but it doesn't let you keep it. Jokes aside it's not all bad as they fixed a lot of the first games problems with linearity and you can actually feel like you are able to use your ninja robot mobility to play the game the way you want to (sometimes), and not the way it wants to be played. I literally just started watching this video, and the first thing I see is that... Outlast has no atmosphere?! Do you misstake atmosphere for volumetric lights everywhere? Outlast is the only horror game where I looked down a corridor and literally could not continue further. I can't honestly think how or why you would think this except that you just didn't like the game for personal reasons. However I did not watch the rest of the video I kind of came rushing angrily to the comments so if there is anything afterwards that makes sense I apologize for the long rant.

@magicschoolbass Жыл бұрын
Sorry, I did not have the time appreciate this so-called atmosphere since on every single corner there was either something screaming at me with a stock sound effect deafening me or some very quirky intestines laying around. While in SOMA for example, there is atmosphere and time to soak it in and FEEL the world around you. I can even pull an UNO reverse card on you and say that you liked the game for personal reasons, but that is not saying much, it it?
@Jdcisnothuman Жыл бұрын
@@magicschoolbassThere ain’t that many jump scares in the game, for a horror game at least. And the only screams I can think of is the first one, and either way that one’s a really good jump scare. But outlasts is as well, it’s crazy terrifying compared to any other horror games I’ve played. If the intestines lying around hurts you that much that don’t look at them.
