Bilona Method - The ancient science of making ghee at home that is really nutritious & medicinal for our kids & families.
We all make ghee at home from collecting malai or from curd. Here are two simple tips that you can add to your process to improve the nutritional content of ghee.
1. Cook the butter to make ghee in a cast iron vessel. Dont use stainless steel, aluminium, nonstick, use the cast iron kadai. First benefit from this is that the Iron content from the vessel seeps into the food cooked and makes it more nutritious. Secondly the heat is uniformly distributed & well retained heat does not burn/darken the ghee.
2. Add curry leaves, pan leaves, methi, clove to the hot ghee at the end. These plants/seeds reduce the free radicals in the food that has come from impurities in milk/churning process etc.
Hope this helped. I would love to hear of any other traditional tips you follow while making ghee at home.
Take care,
Shalini.
