The problem here is.... The word meat is often used in scripture when it can just be flour, oil mixed as offerings. I have tried explaining these things to Christians, but they like eating the unclean and font want to hear. It is definitely a move of the Spirit to have eyes opened

Yes! Unclean flesh was never considered food and the disciples would have had a lot of questions if Jesus just threw that in as an aside to his point about eating with unwashed hands. Yet, they’re silent and they continue to observe the dietary laws long after as is demonstrated by Peter’s vision.

Other religions sacrificed to idols and that is what we shouldn't eat, and if it's not dead or its a violent death,, especially if someone else thinks it's wrong which Paul also addresses 1 Cor 8:10...we should be considerate of their weaker conscience and not eat meat if someone thinks it's wrong...even though we know it's perfectly ok. If there are specifics about what kind of meat not to eat then it stands to reason that any other kind of meat is ok.

Right. God’s word provides a complete list in Lev 11, since Leviticus is what the apostles were quoting as authoritative and followed in their own lives.

They didn’t want Christians to accidentally participate in pagan feasts and ritual. If you want additional context, then read the Didache.

The Acts 15 instructions are direct quotations from Leviticus and other places in the Torah. That’s where they got it.

Didache? This writing doesn't exactly agree with Moses. I've read it, found it quite amusing, but biblical it is not.

Jesus says it is what comes out of your mouth that makes you unclean not what goes into your mouth.Matthew 15:11

Check out the context: Matthew 15:2 "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!” Jesus was talking about eating with unwashed hands, so yes - eating food contaminated with unwashed hands does not make you unclean. And yes - what comes out of your mouth can make you unclean.

Jesus followed the dietary law so he never ate pork or anything that the OT law prohibited.

Giving guidelines on how to properly kill and prepare food means that you can then eat it once it's prepared properly. That isn't a contradiction or confusion between his followers

Absolutely. It does tell us though that God does care what we eat, and that dietary restrictions are still in effect for Christians. This indeed is something mainstream Christianity wrestles with.

The Apostles were Jews so of course they followed the dietary laws, but non-Jews were never given that command. The council in Acts 15 was concerning non-Jewish converts, and even there it says nothing about not eating this or that. When Noah fitst came off the ark he was told he could eat anything so long as it did not have the blood, he was never told not to eat certain things. The first time avoiding foods was commanded was when Israel received the Torah at Mt Sinai, and the Torah only applied to the Jews before that moment everyone on the planet just followed the commandments Noah received following the flood.

Shalom, I hope this reply to your comment helps provide some clarity. Noah was told to bring 2 of every unclean and 7 of every clean animal onto the ark so we know that Noah already knew what was considered clean (food) and unclean (not food). So when it came to Noah eating anything as long as it didn't have the blood in it, he would not have grouped non-food (unclean animals) in with what he could eat. It would be naturally understood to Noah that he was not to eat any food (clean animals) that still had its blood in it. Kinda like if I tell my children they can eat whatever they want for dinner as long as it has no sugar in it. My children are naturally going to know that I am not referring to things like monkey, rats, cat, dog, etc because they know I don't consider those animals to be food. Noah knew what God declared to be food. So abstaining from eating the blood within the meat included the aforementioned list of what meat was food and what meat was not. Sorry if this explanation was too lengthy but I hope it helped! 😊

It refers to the way the animal is killed, not the type of animal.
@RiseOnFire5 ай бұрын
Yes, but the point being made is that it is a dietary restriction binding on Christians. Therefore, Jesus did not mean that what you eat doesn’t matter, but rather as He said in that context, eating with *unwashed hands makes no one unclean.* (Matt 15:20) Jesus ate clean as His Father instructed, and never taught otherwise.
@annaleedaughterofyhwh77675 ай бұрын
What is clean and unclean is found in Leviticus. A “law forever!”

You are conflating the types of food people eat with the reason why it was done. Eating meat from food that was "polluted by idols," indicates it's a form of idolatry.
@RiseOnFire5 ай бұрын
That is true, but Acts15 doesn’t only prohibit food sacrificed to idols, but also meat that was not slaughtered correctly, not having the blood drained. That is a commandment from the Torah and is a general commandment, not given in context of idols.

Sounds like you should do more listening and less teaching. Jesus is what we should be focused on. Without Jesus NONE of this makes any difference. By the way, Jesus had a lot to criticize about what the Pharisees taught people.We no longer have to earn our way to heaven. Grace and Mercy came through the blood of Jesus Christ. He is the only way so enjoy your chicken sandwich!
