What a coincidence... There is one thing I would like to develop in my art, or even become an expert: eyes, gazes. I love eyes, the look, the more I think about it, the more it obsesses me and here I come across your new video. I'm about to enjoy !

In Unity, there is an Eye Advanced Free Asset that has paralax realistic shaders for eyes as well. You should talk about Lighting for Eyes as well, how to make them look alive and convincing (I know a lot of games and animated movies have lights that are only madeonly for reflections. There is a lot of fake stuff that goes into lighting for good eyes. F.e. Kingdom Come Deliverence had pretty dead eyes in the first game because the lighting was realistic, even though the eye shader was good.

Pretty cool stuff! I always wondered how they animate this kind of meshes. I mean even if you properly vertex painted all those eye, eyelids, eye lashes, lacrimal fluid mesh and shadow mesh would pop out some glitches, right?. Merry Christmass J!

That looks great, it's a fantastic piece of information. I have a question: what if you need to fake reflections on the cornea? in low light environments for instance?
@artofjhill23 күн бұрын
You could plug in a texture for the reflections to fake it

Cool, that's the same method that I use for my own characters eyes. The only thing I've never fixed, is the path tracing that wont work, eye occlusions will be not rendered.
@artofjhill27 күн бұрын
You don’t need any extra eye occlusion meshes or textures for path tracing since that’s an unbiased render and creates the shadows naturally

@justjoe661427 күн бұрын
Couldn't you also use a clearcoat shader to get the same effect as using a separate mesh for the lens?
@artofjhill27 күн бұрын
You’d be missing the refraction effect that parallax is providing. The eye shader has two specular reflections like clear coat already

the biggest turn off for eys in games is the same critism i had of early cgi and even today it creeps in, scleral glow. I know why they do it, but its not necessary. Illuminated eyes are very distracting.

Sure, sure, focus on the characters' eyes and make crappy games, while FromSoftware doesn’t care and just keeps making masterpieces.
