Ben, if you're reading these comments - I was delighted to see this video get posted. Your art on Wonder Boy has been a massive inspiration for my own game development projects and I want you to know that I wish more games had art like this. I really appreciate your work.

I love Ben Fiquet's art and Lizardcube's Streets of Rage 4 is going to be amazing! I really hope their games inspire other developers to move away from pixel art and make their 2D games look as breath-taking as possible. The work that Lizardcube, Klei and Supergiant are doing is not only gorgeous, but invaluable.

finally someone else who thinks like that. It crushes me when I see stuff like new 2D metroid games with 3D art

i have played this game, and as a game developer i'm glad that i did. the way this game implemented being able to switch between the old style and the new style inspired a debug feature that i will implement in many of my future games: "Potato Vision" enables the Pixel Art that i will use for Construction and Debugging of the levels without worrying about visuals, and turning "potato vision" Off switches to the final HD version of the game that will be released to the normal players.

Damn, that’s actually a really smart idea, I might use it for my own games.

Thank you for sharing your process and all the beautiful art. I love that studios like Lizardcube are re-imagining old classics for newer generations, who might never hear of them otherwise.

I just want to say that I adore the game you made. Its art and music meant a lot to me ever since I played it. I've checked at Monster World 4 since then and loved it as well. If that game got the same treatment I would die of joy.

Great quotes/conceptual take aways - you don't need to have a thousand concept designs, if you see a strong avenue to pursue grasp it and pursue it. Don't waste good concepts/ideas.

Hey guys, what is the program he is using from 16:40? It looks like Photoshop but I dont recognize the timeline window at the bottom, is it a plugin or just a newer feature?

Nice presentation but from the animators perspective, a lot of these things could have been done by a skeleton based animation with some meshes for the same visuals but WAY less work and some memory savings as well. It is a shame, there could have been a lot more lovely hand drawn content if you decided to use a skeleton system. Well presented though!
@ChristianWS.5 жыл бұрын
Eeeeh, I'm not an animator, but, afaik, skeleton animation usually gives an "flash-like" feeling to the animation(this should have a better name, but I'm mostly talking about the feeling you get due to Interpolation), which doesn't seem to be what the game was going for. I'm not saying skeleton animation is bad, just that it gives a different vibe.
@mikaress5 жыл бұрын
@@ChristianWS. Hi Chris! It is possible to have a nice and smoothly animation with skeletons based technique, mainly cuz you can mix tradicional with skeleton (e.g. use skeleton to do the lion sword swing and tradicional for his turn). I understood they got a own engine for the project, so it maybe only accepted frame by frame? Not sure though
@ChristianWS.5 жыл бұрын
@@mikaress I know you can make smooth animation using less "traditional" techniques, but I guess it would probably require a bit more of work to nail it down without clashing with the intended artstyle-"feel"rather than just doing it manually.
@mikaress5 жыл бұрын
@@ChristianWS. With softwares like spine you can switch sprites with low effort! It's another way of doing It, so has its own learning curve, as hard as tradicional animation, so thats why do many skeleton animation seems like flash kkkk
@ChristianWS.5 жыл бұрын
@@mikaressI guess, it's just that I think if you're aiming at a more "traditional" animation vibe, and you doesn't need an absurd amount of animations, it seems to be less work to just draw it manually than using skeleton animation and being really careful your animation isn't giving "flash-like" vibes >kkkk O porra, cê é BR? Mundo pequeno, hein?
