I never understood much about Genei Jin before. This video shed some serious light on it. Using training mode in fightcade: Trying to do cMP, sLP > qcfLP I get the combo counter to go to 2 when I do cMP, sLP but when I input qcfLP the combo counter stays at 2. Doesn't seem possible to me since if I dropped the combo, the counter would be at 1, but if I landed it, it should say 3. What's going on here?

Genei Jin normals do not have any invincible frames, but they have hit properties of a super art. The game is based on a hit priority system. Super Arts beat specials if the hit boxes collide. If you do a Super Art against Genei Jin, and the hit boxes collide, they trade.

Great guide, only thing I feel this video is missing is something on resets, which I am often torn about, and whether it is worth it to go for the damage or the meter.

In my opinion, I haven't found many practical resets as part of Genei Jin. As long as you end your combos properly, you will get meter. Seeing how short the meter is, it does not take long to build it up again.

Maybe my inputs are off, but I can’t get the combo ender to work. I can juggle just fine with 11-14 hits or so, but then when do the HK double kick anti air move, it won’t link into the shoulder move, regardless of which button I use. This is on Urien btw. Why is everything in this game so far fetched and impossible.

By hit-confirm combos, does that mean counter hit combos?

There is no counter-hit mechanic in 3rd strike. A hit-confirm combo is when you can commit to completing the combo after seeing the first hit connect. Certain moves have enough + frames on hit that another move can be linked after it's recovery frames. This is something you would practice in training mode with the dummy set to random guard.

What are the inputs for a side switch shoulder after CG and upkicks? After the upkicks if I do the shoulder motion a lunge punch comes out instead

it's just an MP shoulder motion - if you're doing a lunge punch instead, you need to practice basic execution

My execution is beyond being unable to input basic motions like that. When I do the input backwards(like for makoto's SA2), a shoulder will actually come out...not sure what's going on

It's use depends on the character you're fighting and the combo you're trying to do. Characters with wide hit boxes don't need a kara lunge, but considering the fail-safe execution of the move, it's a good habit to get used to.

Heres a tip: just give a sample combo and notation. More effective than the trash that you did. Players who can interpret this knows how to do it already and newbies would be left with no combo to use

This is a tutorial video aimed towards intermediate to advanced level. which requires you to already know Yun's basic move set, including how to perform them. This is a pre-requisite for the majority of content in this video where it's focused on the Genei Jin super art. Though I state it's for new Yun players, it assumes they have a basic understanding of the character and they know how to fight with him - just not familiar with Genei Jin, which is not newbie level super art.
