That's so sick! As for art-passing, I love that you can kind of already see a theme emerging just with the stage hazards and general vibes; it starts off as a dinky mining town, as so many TF2 maps do, before expanding to reveal it's actually a serious industrial operation in a big dramatic crystal cave. Then, it further develops into a full-on sci-fi research facility, where they are using the mined crystals for mad science experiments right on-site! You could even have DBZ be an acronym for the organisation doing the mining and experiments, or for the facility itself, like the Diamond Bifurcation Zone or something like that

@@tbotalpha8133 l'm personally of the mindset that an endearing map starts off by having gameplay-unique/wacky setpieces on *_every single point,_* after which all of these setpieces are then carefully and meticuously *_balanced around_* the uniqueness/wackiness of them; Gravel Pit, Mountain Lab, Egypt, Doublecross, Pelican Peak, Sawmill, Nucleus, Kong King, Badlands, Yukon, Freight, Powerhouse, Badwater, Cashworks, Phoenix, Pipeline, Banana Bay, even wackier stuff like Pass Time's District and Balloon Race, they're all maps l fondly remember for all the distinct gameplay setpieces they have. You'll notice the similarly distinct lack of halloween maps in that list btw; that's because, on top of being seasonal-only, they mostly rely on chaotic gimmicks for their gameplay feel, so whatever unique setpieces the maps themselves might have are always left to the wayside (if they even have unique setpieces at all).

@AgsmaJustAgsma Жыл бұрын
@@springbubble4931 Honestly, quite a shitshow when I left. TL;DR a dev member managed to get the game's source code and holds it hostage, making him the de facto lead dev. If anyone opposed this ideas for the game, either you'd leave the team or he'd fork the source code. This resulted in a lot of dev members leaving, both old and new, lots of feature creep and a ton of toxic drama behind the scenes. Not only that, but we delt with a server owner that would often leak players IPs. In short, PVKII's twilight years are sadly quite bleak, but at least I made friends along the way, some of which are making big strides in the gaming industry. As for favorite episode with the team? Definitely the Antichrist Beserker. In short, a glitch in the map Arena made a player's corpse spawns T-posing in the air, right in the middle of the map. The first time we noticed the glitch it was with a headless model of the Berserker while I was on Spectator Mode, and with the volcano erupting on Sudden Death, it made for an ominous image. I took a screenshot and share it to the (now defunct) forum with the label "The Antichrist has Resurrected". By sheer coincidence, it was my 666th post in the forums.

I always headcanoned it in TF Classic (due to it sharing art assets) that the Blue Team mercs were actually mercs hired by Black Mesa as a security force to protect the facility from outside threats or saboteurs and the Red Team mercs were hired by the government to augment the HECU force. But they both ended up tying each other down on the surface. I dunno it just made the matches feel like they had more meaning to it Since Blu Team here is escorting the payload (which could be the Xen Crystal cart from HL1) to the Anti-Mass Spectrometer (maybe it reverses the resonance cascade somehow? Like turning something on and off again??) they can play the role of Black Mesa affiliated mercs again while Red Team are like I dunno hired to stop them because they don't want a Double Resonance Cascade alternate answer better fitting the TF2 universe, would be both teams were brought forwards in time. Red Team was hired by members of the Resistance in HL2 to avert the Resonance Cascade which brought the Combine and Blu team was hired by Black Mesa to continue the experiment by force if necessary, believing Red Team to have been hired by Aperture as saboteurs. if the person remastering the map to give it a proper art pass goes the extra mile make the Red Team announcer Eli Vance from HL2 and make the Blu Team announcer young Eli Vance from HL1

It makes sense why the tower was actually helpful to Blue. Previously, red could be anywhere, and could hold the area around the bridges/trenches and spam into blue spawn or down at flanking blue players in the trench. By adding the tower, it makes the area behind it safe, and immediately in front of it unsafe Additionally, players pushing out from the tower come out from either side, then either take a bridge or go into the trench. This means Blue can actually make tactical decisions on how to deal with Red being in-front of the tower, while Red is incentivized to hold behind the tower.

I love this map. It looks awesome. The trenches, the tunnels, the big spiral, all that stuff look great. All thanks to playtesting. Keep in mind, Valve's biggest contribution to humanity, aside from the games, was the ideology of creepily watching people silently play your game, to tweak it.

This map/video genuinely brought back my interest in TF2. Now, if there's EU server to try this stuff on...

My favorite part about this video is how chat and pretty much the TF2 community in general, agrees that playing against snipers suck. Almost half of the changes made were to give snipers a huge middle finger.
@shinobuoshino5066 Жыл бұрын
Except the experiment we did showed that removing sniper from the game doesn't affect anything and therefore anything you have against sniper is all in your head.

And yet chat throughout this whole map design still agreed to put as many sightlines up as possible, so your point doesn't really mean anything at all even if it's true. @@shinobuoshino5066

@@shinobuoshino5066 You must have seen a different experiment to us, because I distinctly remember the takeaway from that being that the removal of Sniper has no *negative* effect.

Looking forward to seeing what comes from future attempts at this! Things will only improve as the voters think more about what makes a good map good.

I think this video will stand as a good example for map makers going forward, since it feels like everyone who voted learned as they went along. Loved hearing about all the little beneficial changes they made as serious problem points became apparent.

completely rad. I love this experiment in directly-driven active community input for game design.

Yknow what would be nice the indoor part looks kinda like a mine and the spiral to me looks like a drill a mine theme would look nice here

I can imagine a cool map with 100 players like this finished and fleshed out, but it being more grand to make the player count feel completely natural Maybe there being 100 players could be significant like, assaulting Builders League United or Reliable Excavation Demolitions main HQ in a huge final assault with the Mann brothers announcing defense and attacking commands in place of the administrator

I'm very impressed with the map, really feels like the map has a direction and gameplay sense Also a better offering of choices and community participation makes more pleasing than the experiment from before Very nicely done

if you’re gonna have a resonance cascade be the ending you might as well make the rest of the map look like black mesa

I don’t know why, but the cave is actually pretty cool! I say whoever details it, put some Mercenary park plants in there like hanging vines and roots. In fact, a lush desert! That’s rare!

How the f$&@ has pushing the payload cart into the HL1 resonance cascade machine not been done before? That seems so obvious now.

That Anti-mass Spectrometer at the end has me thinking about what could be implemented via VScript. Like having an event tied to the final capture that changes teleports some nearby folks to a Xen chunk of map and disables their team-associations. Spawn in AI controlled headcrabs and/or HECU troopers, MVM style. Allow the Rocket to fire to allow Red to counter in a "natural" gameplay way, referencing the satellite delivery rocket in HL1. Neat stuff the folks made here.
