This was a better character than this film deserved. I would have totally watched a film called "The Auditor", completely separate of the Hellraiser/Hellbound Heart mythos. I actually think making it a Hellraiser film HURT it more than anything else.

If you dig in a the Greek mythology department, you'd find in Hades (not quite "Hell" in the Christian sense, if you make exception of Styx, Acheron, Phelegeton shores and of course Tartarus) there were three judges, all ancient mortal kings: Minos, Rhadamatys and Aeacus. I wouldn't be surprised if the Auditor and Assessor were, in a way, partially inspired of them despite being rather "law executive men".
@GolAcheron-fc4ug
@GolAcheron-fc4ug 7 ай бұрын
@@GeigermSv Interestingly even the “hell” we commonly associate with Christianity isn’t really what was originally believed either. The judeo-christian hell was a lot different than what we think of nowadays. In fact some of it actually was injected into catholicism via hellenic beliefs including some depictions of tartarus during the time.

I always loved in the previous Hellraiser movie where someone said “For God Sake!” And Pinhead hit back with “Do I look like a man who cares what God thinks?” They could’ve had him say something generic like “there is no God”, but Pinhead’s line is deep because he acknowledges God’s existence and his indifference to Him.

There are some cool parts in this movie. This is one of them. The idea of the auditor is cool. Score is nice. Dialogue is spooky. "What is this place? It isnt." @@Chevalier_knightyeah spooky shit. The assessor is fucked up. Wish the new hellraiser Hulu remake had more psych horror like this. The idea of being processed for eternity by a callous cold professional business like demon who details my dark secrets and sins and then those get sprinkled with TEARS OF CHILDREN and eaten by a fatter demon is scary. That's the kinda shit I imagine my own personal hell would be. Something utterly fucked up.
@raoulduke344
@raoulduke344 8 ай бұрын
@@trteeerryfse-wy2ww I thought the "tears of children" bit was a little corny. Also, he used that because the monster being assessed was a paedo. I agree with hell being part of a bureaucratic process (typing, filing, assessing, re-assessing etc until punishment) was a really cool idea. After hearing despicable acts for millennia, nothing would shock the Auditor. Nothing would interest him either (except when he misquoted the Bible - probably the only unique thing that happened that day for him). Incidentally, I loved the Hulu remake. I thought it was really creative and expanded on the lore tremendously, and gave us a Pinhead that was more reminiscent of the OG Hellbound Heart than anything other than the first 2 movies.

@@raoulduke344 I agree some there. But the original had this tension that could not be beat. @@trteeerryfse-wy2ww I can't agree more. The first movie was fantastic, and I loved the 2nd (I actually saw the 2nd before the 1st one) and - OK, I'll admit it - I liked the 4th movie. I liked how it expanded on the lore although, originally, the script for the 4th was drastically different from the movie we got (and not for the better), which explains why there are some jump cuts that seem a bit illogical or random.

I think the assessor is supposed to be based partly on the concept of “sin-eaters”. For those who don’t know, this was something of an actual profession WAY back then where someone would take upon themselves the sins of another soul via a ritual meal to absolve them of said sins - and from what I heard it can be done to the sin-eater when they die by another one. The concept has been explored in modern media, one example I can think of being in Sleepy Hollow

I won’t even watch them. But the 2022 reboot was so insanely good in comparison of all others after 2. It had Clive’s blessing, it acquired the music themes from Christopher Young, it was so faithful to the Mythos and lore of the first two movies and the mythology of the original novella, down to the engineer being a white kaleidoscope of light. all their cenobites were a vision. God. I’m really grateful for that reboot. I didn’t even know I wanted it

I didn't even bother watching the other 2 Star-wars films after the first one disney made. Rogue one was good but the rest of the films completely ruined everything about the other films. The lightsaber fights were boring The Mary-sue protagonist seemed hamfisted, just magically finding a lightsaber in a cantina somewhere because the script demanded it. Mark Hamill, literally *the star* of the entire series lamented how the saga went, how awful the movies were. That this was the film we lost Harrison Ford in. He always wanted to get away from Han Solo this his death in that film and it was such a tragically lousy way to go.

There were some really cool moments in the film, but one of the biggest problems with almost all of the Hellraiser films is that the main characters are usually not all that interesting, and in turn, their stories aren't that interesting. If you took out the plot, and just focused on this version of hell, you might almost have a good film, even though there'd be no actual story.

Honestly I’d rate it pretty highly for the “slasher” genre, I also love the ending, because the cenobites have come to fear nothing, perceiving all “sensations” as pleasurable as long as they’re extreme. And then you see him sitting there begging for change, no more nails or other flesh piercing implements, no supernatural chains or torture chambers, just punishment in the form of life 😂

When i saw this scene. The assesor dropped childrens tears on the papers before eating them. And then he vomited into the funnel but it wasnt blood but more "vomit" like. What scene did they use in the movie? The children tears to wetten the papers and "regular vomit" made it more uncomfortable and unnerving i think.
