The "artist" would have to be such an expert in 20th century biochemistry, medicine, forensic pathology and anatomy, botany (pollen specific to Palestine), photography and 3-D computer analysis, access to some incredible light/energy source that he has foiled all the efforts of modern science. I think the Sudarium of Oviedo was the cloth found in the tomb with the Shroud, and the Cloth of Manoppello is the Veil of Veronica as that's the cloth that's said to miraculously apear the face of Jesus after his face was wiped with it

HI To be frank, the Shroud image is awe inspiring, because it is a photographically real, [not painted, image, originating at a time in history when photography wasn't available]. This obviously manmade image isn't in the least comparable with the forensically exact minutae still being uncovered on the Shroud to this day, by a multidisciplinary team of scientific experts in their fields.

I'm doubtful....due to the absence of the marks from the crown of thorns; and what seems a receding hair line, i wonder how the veil captured this when the reference is only to the "face" of Christ, and not necessarily including the forehead and head. ......I could be wrong though.

This image was made from Shroud. The Shroud's image was displayed face-only in Byzantium, though before that it was sometimes shown whole. It seems likely that the Vera Icon was itself the Shroud, when folded so the face only showed. Painters, after the Shroud came to Western Europe, adopted a copy version of the Shroud Man & colouration (honey-straw). This is what this image is, and why it would be called a true image. Belief said any copy of a true image was itself spiritually "one" with it.

@paulette01 sorry, but you are wrong concerning the Veronica veil. The volto santo is not the veronica veil. This mistake came from the name Vera Icon means true face. I know Father Pfeiffer. I meet him 2 years ago. I think there only a misunderstanding of his words. You should read the book from Paul Badde "The true Icon" or "The Face of God: The Rediscovery of the True Face of Jesus". Both book are very, very good. Paul Badde also is in contakt with Father Pfeiffer. But the most important fakt is that you beleive that the Volto Santo shows the true face of Jesus our Lord. The question whether it is the Veil of Veronica or from the tomb is only secondary.

What do you think of the "pictures" of Jesus taken in recent years, one by some church man who took a picture of a wall, the second one was taken by a woman traveling to the Holy Land, she couldn't remember taking a picture of any painting showing Jesus but this picture showed when she was resolving the negatives from her camera. The third picture is of Jesus, Peter and Simon or somone else allegedly. I will tell you in a secret, that I love the first two which I'm talking about, and the third reminds me of the pictures found in Mary Of Guadalupe's eyes. The Veil of Veronica was used to wipe his face and it is in the St.Peter Basilica in Rom. It is shown eastern to public. The Volto Santo can be seen in Manoppello. It was placed on top of the Linen called Shroud of Turin in the tomb of Jesus. The Image appered during resurrection (Like the Shroud). It Shows the healed wounds....

Yes, the Volto Santo was printed by a miracle, but in the tomb during the resurrection together with the image on the "shroud of Turin". The Veronica's veil was printed by a miracle on the "Station of the cross" and can be seen in the St. Peters Basilica. The sudarium of Oviede dos not show an image of Jesus but you can see the blood of Jesus.

It’s authentic, but some factors need to be taken into consideration. Jesus had been viciously beaten at the time this was captured. His face is swollen - his cheeks, his nose is injured, (some say separated) his eyes swollen… a better concept is def achieved when the cloth of Veronica, the sudarium and shroud are all overlaid.

No, the volto santo can't be a painting, see information on my homepage and as mentioned in the video. The frontside and backside of the volto santo show differents in the image. No painter would paint a painting on both sides. Not the shroud is the baseline for most of the Byzantien Icons it's the volto santo as it is positiv and the shroud a negativ. Looks like an amateur did it to me too. I'm an artist, immediately the proportions are not right. Byzantine art had that look. I don't think it could stand the scrutiny that the Shroud has been through. I believe the Shroud is real, I know it is impossible and all but the more it is looked at the more miraculous it becomes.
