Burnout sucks & can last for years. Wish I'd understood this years ago (before I realised I'm autistic) when I pushed my self to achieve whatever everyone else did, & punished myself for needing more down-time than them!

@@tomsale5142 not much pain (thankfully) but bad insomnia, brain fog, short term memory (what did I come in here for?!) & mood swings. Not really found anything to help yet - everything I read says take some time our to relax but I don't have time!! I kind of recover a tiny bit - enough to clean the house & do the washing - then I'm knackered again & I never have time to deal with the underlying stress. It feel like swimming as hard as I can just to stay afloat, but never getting anywhere.

My god! I just didn't understand what this was and so much of what is being explained helps me. I have trouble recognizing body needs and emotional states, things like getting the signal that I am hungry or thirsty and I miss the usual triggers that alerts people something is wrong until it is far gone and too late to avert burnout. Plus, I go past burnout and only am stopped by my own body. It is twice now that shingles has taken me and it's cranial and optic nerves that take damage...I am too young for this to happen so it confuses doctors. It's just brutally painful. Plus, I didn't know there was a name for the struggles I have and that it is under executive functioning. I would try harder and fail, and then other people find it easy so I didn't understand why I had a hard time of it. I have been trying to sort all this out on my own in a burnout stage. The problem is I adapted myself to be more socially acceptable and sort of forgot many of the things that are me if I am not trying so hard to blend in.

This is a really good video. I relate to all of this. Sensory stimulation resulting in stress is the worst for anyone.

I've been trying to recover from burn out for more than a year, and have been deep digging for resources over the last few months because standard burnout didn't quite seem to fully capture what I've been experiencing and standard tips haven't helped. I don't have a diagnosis except for ADHD, but am starting to suspect it's not just that. Every single part of this resonates -- finally, something that fully matches what I'm going through. Thank you for breaking this down with such detail and clarity, as well as offering actual workable tips. Watching this makes it feel like recovery is actually possible. I had brutally underestimated the impact of brushing off sensory sensitivities and suspect I've done myself in by masking. I think there's still a lot to explore, but your videos have all been super helpful on this journey, and this one in particular is just fantastically supportive.

Very helpful. I particularly liked the symptoms list. I know I am burned out, but there are more things on your list that were frustrating me about myself which I didn't realise were part of the burnout.
