In 2011 we shot the Kel-Tec KSG extensively. While the first version had a few quirks, we were impressed as we ran in through the hard core "Eat Lead Drill" ( • 3 of 4, Kel-Tec KSG Th... ). This testing helped perfect the design. Two years later the crew and I have tested this latest version of the KSG and it's even better. Unlike the laughable sawed off or SBR shotguns with limited rounds capacity, the KSG packs an impressive 7+7+1 load in two parallel magazine tubes. A magazine selector chooses tubes. While mixing rounds types is its own complication (discussed), the KSG brings to various POUs incredibly compact firepower. For its capabilities I will put up with the normally non-preferred bullpup configuration. Accuracy with this KSG was phenomenal, especially considering this is the non-screw in choke version with cylinder bore. Check out that 50 yard slug grouping. Reliability when used with manned-up technique showed no flaws whatsoever in 2012 testing. 2011 Testing revealed that, like the Ithaca Model 3, the combined loading and ejection port can experience wicked jams with short stroking. Attaching a short vertical grip is recommended. The piccatinny rails on the KSG accept this grip and on top, either AR-15 style BUIS or red dot sights. In testing we used both with great success but in the end I like the compact and lightweight BUIS for daylight shooting. Ergos are discussed in detail and are interesting. The trigger is surprisingly good. But loading is cumbersome and is unlike any other shotgun you've probably shot. You will be more "at one" with the shooting experience with the Kel-Tec KSG since the bullpup positions the receiver next to your face. However recoil is manageable. Value is good for this 100% US produced combat shotgun and like many other KT offerings, it can be hard to find because it sells rapidly. Colors include the very cool CeraKoted Desert FDE, OD, and standard black. For its compactness, reliability, accuracy, innovation, and firepower, this is one of the best compact combat shotguns on the planet.////////////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale on all: 9 out of 10 (with sling attachment improvements and screw in chokes: 10)

Having used these shotguns extensively and firing nearly 35,000 shells thru my personal one in the last 2 years, i can tell you his review of the ksg is spot on. I've seen a lot of negative comments and like the reviewer i find most of those to be either people who don't own and have never even fired one.....people who aren't using them correctly.....or people who run crap ammo thru them. As with any weapon, a KSG is a tool, and knowing how to use the tool you're working with plays an integral part in how it performs. Our team has put these guns thru absolute hell and fired them in sessions of over 1000 shells with no adverse effect on the guns AT ALL. They've been covered in dirt and mud, not cleaned for several thousand rounds, dropped, banged around......all to see what they could handle. No failures to feed,no failures to fire, no malfunctions. Was a big Mossberg 590 fan till we started using the Ksg. Clearing a house with a 590, 870, or 1300 was awkward at best compared to the ksg. While speed reloads with the ksg are more difficult we adopted the mentality that if you cant do what needs to be done with 15 rounds of 12 gauge...you shouldnt be using a shotgun. As someone who actually has used these guns for their intended purpose and fired thousands and thousands of rounds thru them i can tell you without a doubt they do what theyre supposed to do. I bet my life on it every night for several years and still would anytime.

Not sure what's going on over on other channels or what their motivation/technique/experience might be. We create our own data here and it's rolled into table top form. But the review stands, the gun is excellent. The KSGs, all three, ran very well as noted here. Hours of video proof of that are available for viewing. I highly recommend it w/o reservation.

I brought home this hammer of the gods today, and that is exactly what this weapon is... This gun is a game changer, no question about it. I know a LOT of old timers will Stick their noses up and pat their old reliable benelli, or Remington, or Mossy. They will look at the "complex" loading issues, and mock you saying how you won't be able to do some super fast tacticool reload that they have drilled 1000 times. They will totally ignore the fact that the trade off for a bit of a pain in the ass loading design, is a huge capacity, super small package, really rugged design that you can take to the bank. They forget that there was a time that their fancy 870 or 500, or Nova tactical was the "new gun." Their fathers and their old timer friends probably mocked them the first time they brought one home. They will mock your gun for it's price, it's looks, how heavy it must be with a full pair of magazines... how front heavy it must be...How bullpups are a failed concept... how the sling works, how much it costs (my dad already flipped his shit shouting "you spent almost a grand on a fucking Pump Shotgun?"). Every possible thing they can think of. However, when you go shooting, just remember to smile when you can keep shooting and shooting and shooting and they are lagging behind with their Tacticool reloads, and bumping their guns into everything because of how long and doofy they are, while yours handles with grace and mobility. When you can put slugs reliably on center mass at 50, and reliably on paper at 100 with a cylinder bore... Haters Gonna Hate, the KSG is a gun for gunners not haters, it is the Hammer of the Gods, and possibly the last shotgun I will ever need to buy... I have never been this excited about a gun in a long time. I'm not saying it's a perfect do all gun... No such thing exists, each situation warrants a different tool... But some tools are just so good, every house should have at least one... What home does not own a hammer? PS. The only thing holding you back from making this a good hunting gun is worrying about people laughing at you. Obviously it will be limited due to it's cylinder choke... you won't be taking ducks in flight from across the pond... But if you live in the Eastern Woodlands like I do... An accurate slug at 50 yards means Venison on the table if all else goes according to plan... The deer won't care whether that one ounce slug at 1600FPS came out of a "hunting" shotgun, or a KSG. So why should you?
@DHTHORNE

I just ran it all weekend, as predicted, it doesn't love low brass/cheap target loads. But high brass went through like water through a hose. The kick is about 20% more than my Benelli Nova tactical pump, Slugs punch up your shoulder pretty hard, but as far as I could tell, they flew nice and straight at 50 yards. I didn't have a single instance of short shucking FTF, however low brass did lock up in the chamber as predicted. Loading isn't all that hard, I treat one tube as my main tube and do administrative reloads with it, the other is my backup SHTF tube that doesn't get used except when it's needed. This is proving to be only slightly less efficient than my Nova Tactical on the "tactical" reload. And forget popping one right into the chamber, that won't be doable for me. Great gun, worth every penny for me, my benelli still has it's place in my arsenal, but the KSG has pretty much replaced it as my go to boom stick.
@DHTHORNE
@DHTHORNE 9 жыл бұрын
Do it ASAP, just remember, No cheap low brass. I have seen some low brass work, but nothing I tried worked yet. Only premium high octane for this thing. If you reload, it's not so hard on your wallet.

I made my own cheek rest from Kydex by the way. One of the few things I didn't like out of the box was that the only metal part of the body of the gun is right where you have to press it to your face. On a hot day, you will sweat, and that sweat will ruin that finish. Plus it gets cold/hot, and that is also where it bites your beard. So either make, buy or find some alternative solution to covering that part, you will be very glad you did.
@DHTHORNE
@DHTHORNE 9 жыл бұрын
Nope, Mostly just KZbin. Good luck, I have it on good authority that changing out the followers is a good idea. Keep in mind with the Kydex that if it doesn't fit right it could slip off and cause problems. Two easy solutions are: a: Heat up the kydex with a heat gun (be gentle, just heat it up a tiny bit, just enough to get it to hold a bend, it should still be pretty stiff) and bend it just a tad to tighten it. b: On mine, I couldn't make a perfect fit (like I said, I made my own part, I didn't buy one), so I got it as close as I could, then drilled 2 holes in the kydex, and tied it to the firearm using paracord. 1 loop went through the skeletal stock area, the other part is right behind the shell ejection/loading area, and is tight and kept clear of all moving parts. Let us know how you fair with your KSG. I hope you love it like I love mine. What kind of sight did you put on it? I got some Magpuls.
@DHTHORNE
@DHTHORNE 9 жыл бұрын
Indeed, I'm loving it. The Magpuls are fine so long as the internal parts are full metal (beware the full plastic models, they cost a few dollars less, but don't hold zero).

LOVE THE KSG! Totally no other gun like it except the UTAS that jams. LOL let me just get something off my mind. :) I am absolutely annoyed with people who bring up these God debates. We're talking about guns & protecting our families here. I believe God is everything and in everything what we do. And God isn't even what some of you say He is. He GAVE US THE GIFT TO _THINK_. The USA was established by the faith. The LAWS & POLITICS are established by the faith. SOME of those political pigs just twist it to control some of us. Thus, gives us reason to use our God Given Right to protect ourselves. WHY ARGUE ABOUT GOD?!?!?! Why hate Him? To what I believe you need to stop staring at the wall & look a Bible. You realize ALOT more than what these arguments have to offer. JEEZ! Some of you piss me off. THUMBS UP for the VIDEO! And God Supporters. You got my respect.

We are the result of evolution directed by natural selection. This country was established on many ideas some religious and some secular. Those ideas have varying relevance for the 21st c. Moreover, our understanding of those 18th c. ideas is filtered through our modern understanding. So, even a concept like freedom meant something very different then than it does now.
@JayBez531
@JayBez531 10 жыл бұрын
Quite true. Though, whether you decide something or another... It doesn't exactly mean its right. It's all based at the beginning. Everything now is based on what we think of it. Some thinking isn't totally right. Some of it selfish. Some based on hearing one another. Still, again. It doesn't mean it's right. :) I love peace. I also live by the word freedom. Even if it costs lives, I'd rather fight for something and die than do nothing and let something completely foreign take over. A lot like God's word. It exists throughout the centuries. Freedom has lasted 2 centuries for the US! And that freedom is based on His word. Just saying.

2015 and President Obama still hasn't changed anything about gun ownership or anything on those terms or purchasing. A lot of fear mongering is the only justification for manufacturers and dealers to inflate prices. Anyway, this is the most impressive shotgun I've seen for a long time, sooooo compact. Especially coming from Kel-Tec, it's surprising since a lot of other gun are just plain ugly or weird. Personal opinion. A lot of performance issues reported in their pistol line. Their new bullpup rifle look great and some have performed good while others performance lacked. But their still in development hope they can get those rifles improved I'd think they'd have a much more successful market. This shotgun alone can power drive ahead in the market and get the innovation known.

Either you're speaking to the choir and it's wasted words, or it's disenfranchising committed viewers with different political beliefs. After we reach about 13:00 of video the real review begins. It was hard to listen to the first 30% of this though. I understand if you want a platform to make your voice heard. Please, take a platform. But, separate the videos from these reviews. Love the KSG. But the narrator is wrong. If you think you can stand against a tyrant with just a gun, get help. Tyrants usually control the military first. So if you think your gun is enough to counter a: SWAT team, armored vehicle, Apache helicopter, attack drone, or even a tank? Then get professional help. If our government turns tyrannical, I'll be finding somewhere else to keep my guns. The only way to stand against a crazy gov't is with organized, trained, and usually foreign-backed arms supplies. Look at the Iraqis or Afganis. They're way way better armed than almost any American citizen. They had full-auto AK's, RPK's, RPG's(try getting one here), land mines, and IED's that would be impossible to build here without a trail a mile wide. -Just introducing a dose of reality here. I like guns, they're fun at the range and for plinking. One just needs to keep in mind that the gov't has weapons that trump guns a thousand fold. While I can buy a Louisville Slugger, I don't make me Babe Ruth.

FunkyPertwee That's great when these punks aren't bought and paid for... They passed it at midnight, without reading the bill. These were Republican politicians who held control over the senate, politicians who were predicted not to pass the bill... Then when they came up for reelection the local morons in this state managed to reelect all of the ones who came up for reelection. I voted clearly for a local candidate who campaigned in part on repealing NY safe, but she did not win. As for calling and letters... Unlike most people, I have done that all the time. Guess what happens? I get this response : "Thank you for your concern... here is why i won't be representing your opinion on this subject and still end up doing what I need to do to stay in office with my (insert party)'s support." NY state is a lost cause, Albany, and NYC dominate the politics, and everyone else has to follow their rules. This is a source of ENDLESS frustration for people living in the country who lose their farms, way of life and freedom because some Urban and suburban hipsters in Flannel outnumber common sense people... Do you know how we are fighting NY safe? Non Compliance. They demanded NY'er register their AR platforms and any other Semi Auto evil rifles purchased before the bill was made law, and banned all new guns. Guess what? 90% of the people they estimated to have AR's and other evil black guns did not comply, and only a tiny fraction of people sold or registered. While people in the rest of the country mock us for losing our rights, we are already living in the first stages of Confiscation... It's just a matter of time before they try to crack down and some cop will open the wrong door and it will be a national feeding frenzy.

I've owned kel-tec before. It was a 380 and I had big hands so it didn't work for me but it was a great gun. Kel-tec has always been good to me and I'll continue to trust them. Just find the gun that works for you, and you are good to go. Don't listen to noobs that can't shoot. Try it, like it or hate it, and decide for yourself. There is no best and worst in the gun world. There is only what works for you and what doesn't. Build it the way you like it I say.

Now this is an awesome urban zone cqb shotgun. I was liking the fact its short like a Serbu Super-Shorty without the small amount of rounds it can have on board, and it looks wicked fun in a cqb situation. I could easily see this as an essential shtf shotgun used in any 3/4 man team. I just worry that this will be a hard shotgun to find and purchase with the recent news of people being irresponsible with guns.

Hickok45 had a video that specifically addressed how the KSG is easier to short stroke than other pump shotguns. It's called "Short shucking and the pump shotgun". Not to say that EVERY KSG problem is user error, Kel Tec does kinda seem to be known for having variable QA.

Kel Tec must be 70% R&D, 20% Marketing and 10% Production. So many cool guns, so few to be found. About the only thing you can find on demand are the pocket pistols.

A lot of people seem to hate this gun because of a lemon, but a lot of people who have a working one seem to really like it. I think I'll take a risk and buy this. Bought a mouse once that was notorious for lemons, and it worked fine.

95.7% of Republican Senators voted for the ban in '94. Nixon stated that he "favored making handguns illegal and requiring licenses for hunting rifles." (1969, with journalist William Safire). George Bush, Sr. banned the import of "assault weapons" in '89, and promoted the view that Americans should only be allowed to own guns suitable for "sporting purposes." "I support the Brady Bill and I urge the Congress to enact it without further delay." -Reagan, March '91 Know your history, friend.

A buddy of mine picked one up a few days ago.On our first time taking it out we fired a few rounds and noticed the forend cracked. It was not a problem that resulted in the ksg not firing, it just cracked and still functioned flawlessly. He is pissed though and had to send it back to kel tech.

I would recommend a Mossberg 500, or Rem 870. Especially if you are looking into the prepping aspect of it. You can get extension kits for both and a lot of different barrels. If you get a 500, you can get a 28 in, a 18 in, rifled slug barrel, and even a muzzle loader kit. The standard tube gives you 5 shot max. But Brownells sells a 8 shot tube extension 20 inch barrel kit. Just fyi.

You'll have to check your local laws. In most places that still have tight restrictions, this is still legal because it's pump action. The magazine limits usually apply only to semi-automatic guns. Since this is pump, it's allowed. Mass is one of the most restricted places and it's legal there. I'd think Cali is similar.

The shooter must manually switch tubes after the 7th shot (empty). This is done so that the KSG will still be legal in areas of the United States where ammo capacity is limited. It is considered two separate tube magazines attached to the same gun (and not one magazine in two tubes).

Had a sub2000 when I was in high scho. Loved it. Sold it when I went away for college. It was a superb weapon and if this gun is even 1/2 the gun the sub2k was.... I'm sold. Although, I'd rather buy another sub2000 and build an AR for what these KSGs go for.

I watch most of your videos but never comment. This is in my opinion, your best review. And thank you for the mention of not mixing lethal/ non lethal/ different loads. Fastest reload ever for a shotgun is a brilliant way to state it. Don't try to make it something it isn't. It is a 14 round shotgun and nothing more which you demonstrated well. Keep it up and thank you.
