Irulan is no dummy. She saw right through the subterfuge her father and the Harkonnens were trying to use to screen their overt ploy to destroy the Atreides. She had to be raging inside though, unable to raise a hand to stop or at least warn the Atreides of this.

I got the sense that she cared about Paul and the Atreides which makes it quite tragic how Paul treats her after he becomes Emperor.

@@danybey4182 it's cool. Irulan has a larger role in this mini series. She meets Paul and berates her father for setting up Leto. So in a way she cared about Paul so to me it's sad that he ends up using her for political reasons.

I don't get it why doesn't the Baron just marry Feyd off to the Emperor's daughter if he wants to take the throne?

Probably because of that very reason. Whoever marries Irulan would be Emperor one day. And the Emperor makes it clear earlier in the series he detests House Harkonnen, comparing Geidi Prime to Babylon. So, Feyd's chances of marrying her are very slim, unless he can successfully woo Irulan, and if the Baron's plan to eliminate Shaddam works out, that way, Feyd could marry her with no problems. But of course, we all know how well things work out for the Harkonnen.

barbiquearea the thing is Feyd would end up the Consort to Irulan's Emperess, like his relative Fedy'n who became Emperess Ghanima Atreides' consort. Paul only became Emperor because he deposed House Corrino- marrying Irulan only secured the noble houses and legitimized his rule. Feyd did none of that.

This was actually a deviation from the book, in which Irulan is a very minor character and the Baron really only see's the opportunity for House Harkonnen to take the throne late in the story, and he even considers how even though one day a Harkonnen will be emperor it won't be himself.

Coz the Emperor doesn't want "the daughter of the Imperial house to be slurred by the likes of Harkonnen and (their) dreadful progeny". He says that earlier in the miniseries.

However that was the Bene Gesserit plan all along. Paul would be a girl who would marry Feyd, they would produce the messiah who would wed one of the House Corrino daughters, take the name Corrino and guide humanity through the golden path. Jessica and then Paul messed up spectacularly, Paul's children had to pick up the pieces as even they were incomplete. The twins had all the memories of their ancestors but none come from the Corrino line until Ghani produces a child with Farad'yn. Paul messed his kids over really.
