Killing it Dave. In all seriousness, I hope one day a studio could learn from your series and turn these stories in a series. To be able to see the first age depicted on tv would be Amazing. I would love that too, but unfortunately the Tolkien estate will not allow the rights to these stories. The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and what is found in the appendices are all they have the rights too.
@obZen3272 жыл бұрын
@@peteharper2687 Honestly... It's better that way... Nowadays no matter what you do, studios will demand full diversity in any new show or movie series.. I am all for diversity in the real world, but when you are capturing these most particular, brilliant works of art, there is no place for politically correct BS. It would be turned into a cast filled with every race of color, LGBTQ forced gay couple-scenes, and all in all, just butchered works that would destroy this amazing book / lore. Which should be 100% protected and renowned by true fans until the end of days.

I don’t think I have commented before. I wanted to let you know a few things. First of all, I tried to read the Silmarillion but I found it hard to comprehend - not only is this an expertly compounded telling of its contents, but it’s brilliantly put together and I don’t find myself confused. I could read the Silmarillion after your series, I think. Secondly - what a fricken effort it must be to make these. These videos are long and chock full of information and tidbits. I appreciate your passion for the telling of it and I want to say thank you for making these videos. Thirdly - I have bad anxiety. I started reading The Hobbit one night as an audiobook to help calm me and allow me to relax enough to sleep, and there my obsession started. After reading The Hobbit a few times, I then read Lord of the Rings. The next logical step was The Silmarillion, and I think there’s some more lore books (Legend of Middle Earth or something) after that? I digress. I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for explaining the story in a more simple way and doing so in a way that is just as calming as reading the other books. Thank you! I’m going to continue to crochet and listen before I go to bed; but I thought I’d leave a comment as I am quite a few videos in to your channel now and I haven’t expressed my gratitude yet! ❤

For further reading I would suggest; The Book of Lost Tales Part 1 & 2, and The Lays of Beleriand. (These are the first 3 books in the 12 volume set The History of Middle-Earth). They can be a bit hard to get through but there are a lot of lore to get from them. The book Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-Earth. There are some new publications that expand on stories from The Silmarillion. Beren and Luthien, The Children of Hurin, The Fall of Gondolin. There is also a great map book The Atlas of Middle-Earth by Karen Wynn Fonstad. Not sure which Audiobook you're using but my favorite for Lord of the Rings is read by Rob Inglis. He does an Amazing job!! For the Silmarillion, the version Martin Shaw is very well done. Hope this helps.

You really do bring the Silmarillion to life- and your emphasis on Thingol's ban on the Quenya is an interesting one whose consequences are bigger than I thought they would be. So that's so amazingly typical of Tolkien: a single event can have a larger number of consequences then would be readily apparent, yet we see them play out in the future.

Fantastic video, really well told as are all your videos. I know the Silmarillion very well as it is my favourite of Tolkien's works but you really do make the story, world and characters come to life with your retelling, their are people I know who resist reading the book who would read it after watching your videos. Very well done sir, keep up the amazing work. Finrod is my favourite too, nobility, selflessness, wisdom and kindness all wrapped up in the same brave and mighty elf prince. How could he not be my favourite. 😎😁👍

@ TheHighGuard Your name caught my eye, and I guess you know what it means. So, I do as do you think The Silmarillion is Tolkien`s best, and Tolkien himself began writing it before he even want to WWI. I kind of get annoyed at people who refuse to read, and rely on these great videos. I should not think like that, because I am not them, and cannot judge them. But one thing does bother me , is the new artwork that is drawn and it is all film based, in arms and gear. The swords are one sided and bent with a katana-like handle , the helms are like the movie, and armor too. That is not how Elven blades were. They were two sided and straight, one and two handed. The armor should be chainmail and the helms would not have the silly topblade-like peak. LOL, just a pet peeve of mine. What do you think? I am always interested to speak with another Tolkien fan.

Way back, in Russian Empire time, there was big and heavy wooden planks that was imposed on the students, who dared to speak minority language (in case of my country - Belarusian). It was engraved with "He spoken X language" and was quite popular. Also, since stalin time in the USSR "rusiphication" begin anew (this time as part of effort of buildingnew, soviet identity), although native languages was not outright prohibited. So yeah, ban on noldor language is pretty significant.

I truly love every story the esteemed JRR and of course, his Son Christopher has provided us and in fact own pretty much all printed works. But... one thing that has always had me scratch my head in consternation is, how did the Noldor become such esteemed warriors, when until their return from Aman to Middle-Earth, they had no enemies to confront and hone their skills as such? For that matter, they show up in Middle-Earth and have impressive weapons during the "Battle Under Stars" but where did they forge these weapons and why? They didn't get an email to the effect "btw, lots of Orcs here, bring swords". Anyway, it 's not a huge point but one that always bugged me. Great Vid! Thanks!

Had Fingolfin, that apparently mighty soldier, ever wielded a blade before Feanor pressed his new invention against his half-brother's chest?
