@10:57 the links between Leinster and this royal dynasty are interesting. Not only in the early 1050s but just after Hastings. The topic is probably not on the curriculum but is worthy of covering in this series. The military assistance given by an Irish king to Anglo-Saxons against the Norman invaders. Diarmait mac Máel na mBó, King of Leinster, hosted the surviving sons of King Harold Godwinson of England after the Battle of Hastings. In 1068 and 1069 Diarmait provided them with a fleet for an invasion of England. The subject is dealt with in 1). Byrne, Francis John (1973), Irish Kings and High-Kings. 2). Cróinín, Dáibhí (1995), Early Medieval Ireland: 400-1200. 3) and Bartlett, Thomas; Jeffery, Keith (eds.), (1997) A Military History of Ireland.

This audio at the beginning and at various points throughout is not just mildly bad, it is unprofessionally bad. It actually negatively affects the presentation to the point one doesn't want to watch it. Placement of the lavalier must be attended to carefully and the audio tech or person responsible for audio should monitor the audio through headphones before the presentation to make sure there isn't a problem. These are minor issues that are easy to fix and there isn't an excuse for bad audio in a product like this.

How can we be sure that this is meant to be "professional"? What if the video was just a fall back for students that missed the class or for future reference during exam preparation? The professor and the youtuber are clearly not identical. The sound person (student?) may have paid tuition himself and wouldn't care about us freeloaders...

Even before 2 minutes are up there's a glaring mistake and this is supposed to be a University lecture? When will everybody (and that includes historians) get it through their thick skulls that the crown of England was not inherited from one generation to another or from one sibling to another but was given to the man most able to defend the English borders and would be able to command respect from the nobles. It was considered a bonus if the man the Witan were considering came from the House of Wessex. Today, the closest we come to how the English throne operated is the election of a Pope in the Catholic Church. It was a lifetime appointment. In todays set up when a Prime Minister resigns, all power reverts to the Queen. Pretty quickly the replacement is wheeled in and given the job and the power once more resides in the Parliament. When the Queen dies her "power" will automatically transfer to Charles and a seamless transition will occur. As the King "ruled" in Anglo-Saxon England the power invested in him transferred back to the selected Nobles that formed the Witanagemot. Then they would select and vote on a replacement and the power would be granted to him to rule over all. So, Anglo-Saxon England can be considered an early form of Republic with a very limited voter base. The bloody Normans changed all of that when they conquered us.

The English Saxons always have a Norman Propaganda comment on the tapestry (needlepoint). They were crushed by The Normans superior military prowess and the sore loser role from the saxons over it is ridiculous.
