@@historyprofiles One cannot talk about the sieges of Osaka without delving deep about the story of Sanada clan. The Sanada clan (which has nothing to do with Hiroyuki Sanada) is a small but resilient family, known for 3 famous father and sons. - The patriarch Sanada Masayuki - The eldest son Sanada Nobuyuki - The youngest son Sanada Yukimura Their capital was in what is the present-day Nagano prefecture. They were regarded to have the best military defense in Japan because the Tokugawa attacked their castle of Ueda twice and Tokugawa lost both times. The second time was concurrent with the battle of Sekigahara and it was something like this Sanada Masayuki could see the war coming on the horizon so he did his Machiavellian move by marrying each of his sons off to both sides. The elder brother Nobuyuki was married to princess Komatsuhime who’s Ieyasu’s adoptive daughter (Eastern army) while the younger brother Yukimura was married to the daughter of Otani Yoshitsugu (Western army) so once the war broke out, Sanada family would survive, no matter who wins. Now, when Ieyasu marched his armies to face Mitsunari in Sekigahara, he divided his armies into two contingents. The main contingent was led by him going along the Tokaido road while the second contingent was led by his son Hidetada going along the Nakasendo road which will pass the Ueda castle of Sanada family. Ieyasu gave his son a specific instruction that Hidetada should send a small portion of his troops to siege Ueda just so that they won’t attack the Eastern army from behind but the main bulk of Hidetada’s troops must go at the same speed as Ieyasu’s army so that the Tokugawa troops could end up double the size of Mitsunari troops in Sekigahara and win the war easily. However, Hidetada didn’t listen to his dad so he used all of his troops to siege the Ueda castle and LOST because the Sanada were the best defense strategists of Japan, causing Hidetada to be late to Sekigahara and almost made his father lost the war. Ieyasu only won it thanks to his own wit and a huge amount of luck. But once the Tokugawa won the war and set up their own government, the only people who got punished were Sanada Masayuki and Sanada Yukimura because they sided with the Western army (Yukimura would also later play a major part in the Osaka battle against the Tokugawa as the de facto military commander of the Toyotomi). Meanwhile, Sanada Nobuyuki didn’t receive any punishment because he’s married into the Eastern army side. His immunity was still intact even after the sieges of Osaka which means Masayuki’s scheme actually worked.

If want to de love Siege of Osaka, rather should delve the influence of Yodo-Dono(Hideyoshi concubine & Hideyori mother) instead Since she is the one who influence Hideyori to rebel on The first place, political by speaking

Ishida Mitsunari remained defiant until the end, even after losing the battle, upon reaching a shrine to take refuge for a time, when asked what he wanted, instead of asking for food or water, he replied with venom that what he wanted was, "Ieyasu's head!" He gave his reason for not taking his own life as further burdening Ieyasu. Finally, on the way to his execution, he refused a persimmon because he considered it bad for digestion. His escort was astounded, reminding Ishida he was to be executed that very afternoon, Ishida replied, "One can never know the future, so one should always look out for one's health."

He was always known for his unbending character! Have to respect he fought for what he believed in! So many legends and rumours, one was that Ieasu spared him, but alas I do think he was executed for his iron will and loyalty to the toyotomi regime.

@@historyprofiles Knowing Ieyasu's not the type who let potential threats unresolved there is no way Ieyasu would spare him.

It is a good video to understand the outline. If you are going to make the Osaka Winter and Summer Campaigns, please explain the customs of imina. Without the premise that the act of calling a samurai by his real name was very disrespectful at the time, the Hokokuji incident would appear as if Ieyasu gave Toyotomi a false accusation.

In this era....life is too short. Only a few men can reach 60 or 70+ because there is too much war. Maybe rich men or powerful people in the clan can maybe...who knows

Correction : Seki “gahara” Also, the part with “rumor spreaded” about Hidetsugu committing crimes, it’s actually a harassment campaign from Hideyoshi to discredit Hidetsugu and give himself an excuse to kill Hidetsugu so that Hidetsugu won’t stand in a way of Hideyori ascending to the throne. Hidetsugu was actually innocent. Probably one of, if not most scummy move from Hideyoshi that caused the division within his clan and led to some of his retainers siding with Ieyasu instead.

way too superficial. dozens of gaudy, easily forgettable, infinitely interchangeable counters vying for dominance in endless bloodshed accomplishes little understanding in those of us uneducated in wars of personality and display. not one word about material circumstances ---how many koku of rice off how many tatami of paddy? how many tubes fed by what quality gunpowder from where? zero effort. the People Magazine of history.
