I was 100% not surprised about Marie's formula being #1. She is by far my favourite formulator. I have only purchased 2-3 formulas over the years and was always disappointed. I have tried a few of Whole Elise's and find them very hit and miss, personally. Her emulsified body butter was one I've made and liked, but didn't love. ❤ Marie lives in the Canadian prairies, so really dry and very cold in the winter, I'm sure that influences the glycerine 😂. I have formulated a couple things from scratch, like my deodorant, but I seldom feel the need to recreate the wheel if I dont have to, I'd rather take a formula, like Marie's that I can then tweak for days! Her website is always my first stop when I want to try something new!

That’s what I do too… I look at her recipes and make changes and modifications based on some research. So far, everyone that’s tried my emulsified body butter seems to love it. Right after my coworker tried some that I bought in to use, she asked me if I had some for sale and to bring it in. That makes me feel great when someone reacts like that. 😊

Hi Angela! 😍 YES! I go to her site often - that encyclopedia is game changer for me! I will often go there to scope out her formulas to get a good idea of the percentage she uses for specific ingredients. For instance, I just formulated a tallow lip balm and went there to find out a starting percentage for the lanolin that I added. So helpful! Thanks for you feedback on Whole Elise. I also have had some hits and misses. But dang, her conditioner bar formula makes up for the misses - I can't keep it in stock! 💕

@@WalnutCreekBathBoutique that's awesome! I can't remember if I tried her conditioner bar for hair, but I'm pretty sure I have used it for a lotion bar! I'm currently in the process of reformulation a conditioner bar, a hybrid of Marie's simple coconut conditioner bar and Tara Lee's latest conditioner bar she shared on her channel. Everyone loves the cocoa butter one, but I'm trying to tweak with very fine hair in mind!

I definitely started formulating my own recipes. It takes A LOT of research and practice making small batches to test. Mrs. Soap and Clay has done a few formulation challenges and I’ve won a couple of them. 😊 I have a few people that will test and tell me if they like it or not. For my beard balm, the biggest compliment I got was a customer that came right to my booth in June and said, “Oh thank goodness you’re here again! I lost your card and your beard balm is the ONLY one I’ve tried and actually love.” Then, he proceeded to buy all I had. 😂 I gave him a 10% discount for buying them all. I have to make more since cold weather is coming. He had told me that he tried like 4 or 5 other beard balms and said nothing compared. ❤ That was my own formula from scratch.

Tammy Apricot kernel oil is one of my favorite and my go to for many of face formulations. I always infused with chamomile, dandelion and calendula or other herbs related to the purpose of my final product. It’s lovely and underrated most of the times. For creams (emulsifying-body butters), I noticed the emulsifier and the oils and butters selection will make a huge difference. Thank you for sharing.

Round labels work better for me on tapered squeeze bottles. And there’s nothing at all wrong with being a maker rather than a formulation from scratch. That’s how we learn and grow.
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique2 ай бұрын
Thanks Lissa! I appreciate not only your label advice but your encouragement on being a maker. Your being a formulator makes that mean a lot to me. My son took a quiz in high school to see what kind of learner he was, and found he learned the best when teaching others. He started teaching me his subjects and it really helped cement it in his mind. I think I must be similar as I feel I have learned so much just by having this channel. (and not wanting to look like a total poser LOL)💕💕💕

@@WalnutCreekBathBoutique Don’t ever think that. You’re not! And btw, I think what you do with formulas, turning them into something new that suits your own business model, shows your formulator mindset. Keep being you! ❤️

Thank you for your honesty! I use oval labels longways on the tottle tubes. I feel the tubes are hard to get all the product out when you get near the end although customers love the size for carry alongs!

good tip! I may try oval if I stick with these bottles I have a friend that cuts the tops off to get the last bits out of a tottle bottle. I have done that ever since LOL

Hi Tammy, as always I love your videos! Thank you for doing this comparison of the body butters. Incidentally I use oval labels for my malibu bottles. They look lovely, the only challenge I have is lining up the labels to print in the center😏
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique2 ай бұрын
good advice! Thank you. I think I used circle labels once and thought maybe the square would be better - probably because they are easier to line up on the printer 😂 I have never used oval labels before. I may have to give them a go on my next order - thanks! 😍

Hello Tammy. Just a thought. Comparisons are interesting to hear but it would be great to be given the points one was using to compare ie a list of things testers were asked to consider. Body creams will be dependent on individual skin type, climate/room temperature when applied so should be also included as these will influence the application too.

I love olive squalane. I use EcoSil or OliveSil (both the same INCI) to replace the MCT. But I’ve also changed some of the other ingredients because I wanted to make it more my own recipe.😊
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique2 ай бұрын
I have never heard of EcoSil or OliveSil, is there a reason you replace MCT? I haven't heard anything bad about it...🤔 I usually will always swap oils or butters, change or add extracts and other lower amount ingredients. For the most part I keep the main components and percentages. I will change the emulsifier if I don't have what something calls for. like I said, I'll change the crap out of a recipe LOL - just give me a base/starting point 😆
