You cannot compare the 2 groups. Both have their unique qualities. It’s the same as comparing Lou to Kelly Hansen. Of course Lou wins! It’s like comparing Steve to Arnel or one of the many Journey singers. Steve wins overwhelmingly!

I've been in love with Steve Perry'voice since the first time i ever heard him !!!.....add Neil's guitar and Jonathan's piano skills, and you have MAGIC !!.......i prefer Journey over Foreigner, but i love them both as bands. Steve's voice is much smoother and he has a much bigger range than Lou.

You two should react to the group Damn Yankees, where you'll get the singer/guitarist from Styx, and the bassist/singer from Night Ranger together in this group. They sound great! High enough is one of their top hits, but theyre all great!

Journey is a better band all around. Not one member of Foreigner is better than their Journey counterpart. Vocally, Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda could easily walk Lou Gramm. Don't get mad, fans... these are just facts. Foreigner was slightly--SLIGHTLY--harder rock than Journey, and some people might prefer that. Journey has a more eclectic catalog because their band, including the lead singers, can handle a wider variety of music. Foreigner's biggest hit, "I Wanna Know What Love Is", was written to sound more Journey-like. They even called in Jennifer Holliday (in her PRIME) and the New Jersey Mass Choir to give it some soul at the end!! And they gave her virtually NO CREDIT at all. Journey never needed to outsource help.

The issues I have are these: The first two Foreigner songs were uptempo and gritty. The first two Journey songs were mellow and smooth. The next Foreigner song was more mellow, but Journey's was a rocker. You cannot do a fair comparison that way. The last two were a little more comparable. Next, you heard two live Journey songs, but all Foreigner songs were studio. Foreigner was not the best live. Journey was better live than in the studio (amazingly enough). Lastly, both Mick Jones (Foreigner) and Neal Schon (Journey) are great guitarists, yet we didn't get to hear any Jones soloing, and just a little bit of Schon. I can see why you choose a tie in the video, but if could compare the entire Foreigner catalog to the entire Journey catalog, I'm confident you would choose Journey by a mile. Foreigner had one basic sound (and it was great). Journey incorporated so many styles because their members came from latin, jazz fusion, R&B, rock and pop backgrounds.

Lou Gramm had to stop singing in 95. He was on tour in Japan and fell out. Flew him back to the States to have a brain tumor removed. It took him years to restore his voice. Him and his brother made a Christian rock band called LGB band. A wonderful, soulful man. He had a horrendous time being in the band Foreigner. Bandleader Mick Jones stole his royalties for his music and really treaded him bad. He eventually went out on his own and were writing hits. I don't know why he went back but he did. I would NEVER go to a Foreigner concert. Only one original member left.

No contest. Journey had some nice AM hits - but never taken seriously by fans at the time - since the band was cheese - and made some of the worst videos of all time. Foreigner - a real rock band - respected, and until they went mainstream were admired by their peers and fans.

Actually, Journey was a huge concert draw, even as their singles fizzled (1970s). They were selling out stadiums without a single top 15 hit. Journey was no more cheese than Foreigner. They both had ballads and they both had rockers. But Journey also had blues-rock, jazz fusion, R&B and Latin. Foreigner was great, but had one basic sound.
