Carmy was being an ass. I’m not gonna deny that. But Sydney and Marcus don’t get a pass on their shit either. Marcus just wasn’t doing his job. Sydney made a series of honest mistakes and bailed without fixing them. Not to mention I feel like she was lashing out at everyone (Richie had it coming but Tina was innocent) just as much as Carmy. He just happened to be louder so the blame got focused on him. But neither Sydney or Marcus owned up to their mistakes and took responsibility. They just ditched and blamed Carmy, who by the way has been running around like a crazy man trying to fix the place and claw them out of debt. And yes he could have been more supportive, at the same time he trusted Sydney to help him fix the place so much he made he his Sue chef after a few days. And she went behind his back and served a dish he said wasn’t ready, he never said no, he said it needed work, and she went behind his back because she thought she knew better. Also for anyone who wants to say that Sydney’s risotto had nothing to do with it and was good for business. Most of those preorders were probably because of that article. So every customer that preordered and didn’t get their food because they just had too many orders is gonna be bad publicity for them. Not to mention everyone who comes in expecting risotto is gonna be more bad publicity.

I have to totally disagree. Not with you. lol. With the ladies. Sydney caused the problem. Carm let her come in with a new plan and she absolutely blew it up. She couldn't have done worse or reacted worse. Marcus. Even though I love this episode, the only way a real person would behave the way Marcus did, would be if they were stoned out of their mind. Anyone would be able to understand the restaurant was in SERIOUS trouble and he is walking around with donuts. That felt poorly contrived to me. Even though he has been more single minded on his dessert, this still felt like he was either stoned out of his mind or the situation simply makes no sense. Carm reacted the way about 95% of head chefs would react to such a major catastrophe. They deserved to be fired on the spot, not give the opportunity to quit.

For a chef, he has been very level headed to that point in the series even with all of the pressure he is under. For me, it made almost no sense that Sydney reacted the way she did when with full vitriol she called him a piece of s$%t. Even with his explosion in the episode, he hadn't earned that level of disrespect. The ladies said he didn't back her up. Excuse me,. He gave her a job, he essentially made her the #2. Sure she was the sous, she was supposed to take care of things and report back to Carmy, but she never wanted to be, he basically forced the brigade and forced her into the position of sous. Besides, there's not much of a point in having a sous chef if you're not gonna listen and talk to them, and Carmy wasn't doing those things. She fucked up with the preorders, yes, but having a head chef you can't really rely on is horrible, and then that chef uses everything he can against you during a shitshow of a service? She can't be doing thing's behind his back just cause she disagrees doesn't like it or think she has a better idea. Not only that but to leave during a rush that is low-key her fault because the pressure is on and basically interfering more then helping by talking shit to Richie, instead of doing her job with the vegetables, a lot of the onus is on Her and Marcus, who could not get out of his own head and do the job he was told to do FOUR TIMES, with a warning from Carmy on how he was gonna fuck his day up if he didn't focus. I think too many people get caught up in handing out blame for what went down in this episode when that’s not the point, but you guys nailed it. The boss sets the tone for how everybody else is gonna act and treat each other. Carmy is stressed and I get that, but it’s his attitude that trickles down into everyone else’s mindset. He puts down Sydney’s dish (by saying the food critic is a hack) and then when she tries to communicate with him or help fix the problem (that is admittedly her fault) he shouts at her. side note- the one take and the camera movement is telling this narrative too because yes it helps create an atmosphere of chaos and anxiety, but it also shows how the negativity flows from the top of the hierarchy down. We watch the interaction between Carmy and Sydney and then the camera follows Sydney as she chews out Marcus and berates Richie and Tina, and then we follow Marcus walking out. I have a lot of empathy for Sydney to be honest, and that might be an unpopular opinion, but it’s not like she was being a bitch just to be a bitch. She’s gotten so much shit from everyone else this season and worked through it but she hit her breaking point in this episode and we saw what that brings out in her. Should she apologize? definitely. But am I still on her side? Yeahhhh

Wtf....these guys always take Sydney's side each time no matter what... the way she talked shit ab Richie and crossed the line and kept cursing at him like a maniac n then stabbed him like what?? Also she was the one who made a mistake then she walked out like a coward then u guys complain ab how Carmy acted?
@hasan_18886 ай бұрын
This whole situation was sydneys fault. She is the one who forgot to turn off the pre order option. She then proceeds to act as a coward for quitting. So you ladies better reduce you biaseness towards female characters.

Sydney and Marcus were such children this episode, they are the innovaters, but under pressure the old guard were the one that held it down.

Yeah never understood why sydney gets a pass. she fucked up and just because carmy got mad its cool that she insults everyone? especially what she said to richie. never understood why she never apologized and put all of the blame on carmy. marcus wasn't even attempting to do his work. carmy is totally justified and he still apologized

I never understood why they simply didn't cancel all the pre-orders.

If you order from a place and they cancel your order how likely are you to order from them again, scale 1-10?

Also with the 3rd party things it’s not easy or in some cases not possible to refund. You simply have to make it

A restaurant I worked at the only way to stop them was to mark the restaurant as closed on the apps. Once the order was in you were screwed

I’m sorry but screw the sous chef & screw the donut chef. He yelled at you? Big deal, grow up. Oh by the way the rush was HER FAULT, and the donut chef was explicitly told not to do side work during service. It’s not like carmy hasn’t recognized when he got too verbally aggressive before and apologized for it. Walking out during service is so unprofessional.

Let's all admit though, declaring "This isn't on me" after you've mistakenly allowed preorders and accidentally stabbed someone is fucking hilarious.

She was given so much control and blew it. She was already on edge before this episode this was just icing on the cake. Carmy trusted her. He knew what worked.

Sydney stayed longer than ANYone else would have in this situation. Carmy attacks her dish, again, when the orders come in. I understand the stress. I have actually been in a situation worse than this, in NYC. Had Carmy been there, nothing, would’ve been done. Nothing. Cousin Richie, he should not be working there at this point in the show, he is awful. The only thing Carmy did that was correct was tell Richie that he deserved being stabbed. Marcus, is obviously a dessert chef, a lot of people are pissed at him for working on the Donuts. This is the issue, at the end Carmy tries it, it was not only good- it was better than the cake. This comes down to COMMUNICATION. Richie can not attack random people and Carmy cannot break down and start throwing blame. This causes other people to leave.

Maybe it was better. But last i checked those donuts werent on the menu, they were a personal project. He basically said to carmys face i dont care about doing my work after i was told multiple times to get to it and work on my own personal things

What? This episode shows how pathetic and childish Sydney and Marcus is. They cause trouble by not working *during* *working* *hours* and then quit during work after talking shit to coworkers *excessively* and then literately *stabbing* a coworker. They don’t even take accountability for their actions like a child.
