Wow, look how people in the past were one family, they eat together, sitting together having fun together, they doing everything together ........ today every one is living alone, even one family living in one house but everyone living alone in his room they don't even giving any salutation word . so sad we are living in era families are disconnected .
@Rhimeson2 жыл бұрын
Yes its sad, people used to get their sense of identity and pleasure from community and family, now mass media has distorted how we view our reality, we are lonely and crave constant dopamine hits from technology and our devices. Seems to me people were more content and grounded back then,I for one feel quite alienated in what my society has become.

@@user-rx4jg8lq7h So what? There was no contraception and there were biological reasons. You are comparing apples with oranges.
@user-rx4jg8lq7h3 жыл бұрын
@A-dutch-Z I don't know why you bring up contraception? I said women *were* oppressed, which you were disingenuously trying to deny, because I have heard the stories about this from my mother and grandmothers. Things like being denied education because you were a girl even though you were very bright, not having the right to abortion even though abortion existed, and being fired from your job automatically because of getting married. None of these have anything to do with contraception. But yes, that was also awful of course, that there was no contraception. Certainly didn't help women achieve their goals and dreams in life.
@a-dutch-z73513 жыл бұрын
@@user-rx4jg8lq7h I bring up contraception because without contraception, well, you could easily get pregnant, duh. Try to imagine what happened when one got pregnant in those days (without social security). Just use your imagination. What do you define with oppressed exactly? Be precise. Education was useless because once one got pregnant… see above. It also answers the firing, maybe you should ask your mother and grandmother more precisely if they were honest or that they simply were talking out of spite or ignorance. You can try to be smart but try to think first, and try to imagine what it was like in THOSE days before (western men in the sixties) invented the tools to 'liberate' the women. You are talking like an NPC, so predictable. Try again.

These women look really oppressed by the patriarchy.
@user-rx4jg8lq7h3 жыл бұрын
I think you can see that, although of course women WERE oppressed by the patriarchy here in NL too (for example, my own mother was still fired for marrying my dad in the 70's, abortion was still illegal until somewhere the 60's or 70's the "Boss in one's own belly" movement fortunately changed that, and both my grandmothers did not receive higher education despite being very bright just because they were girls), here in the Netherlands we have always relatively quite far ahead in terms of women's liberation. You can see for example on the beach in the beginning that women could show quite some skin without social backlash, women cycled etc.
@thereunionparty4 жыл бұрын
Only 93 years ago yet it looks closer to the middle ages than today. The costumes of the women are fascinating - the very full, long skirts, the head-dresses and those funny mirror things they wore on their foreheads. And making a straw man? That seems a lot of trouble to express disapproval. But I guess social mores were particularly strong then, so maybe it was a big deal.
@MrMatti-lx8et4 жыл бұрын

I imagine there wasn't too much in the way of crime back then.
@qopiqq36293 жыл бұрын
There was, but petty theft. Kids would often try to steal little things, some extra food at a store, or giving money but with the smallest cents possible so it looked like alot, then speeding of before the cashier could count all the coins. I have a tale from my grand, grand father as told by my Grandpa They were peasants to a local lord south of the central city of Goes. The lord had a horse that was very dear to him. My family had to take care of the horse, that almost had a life better then themselves. There wasn't alot of food to go around in those times for the poor. When the horse died, the local landlord wanted it buried on his ground, so he could visit the beast still. The task was for my grand grand father, who dug a shallow grave. Later that night, they went back, dug up the horse and closed the grave. They shared the horse meat with the entire village, he retold to story to my grandfathers father counteless times because it was the best food they ever had. I believe this was around the 1850's. I dont know how much of this is true, its now been passed around for 5 or 6 generations in the familly, so it could have been a bit different. So yeah, there was crime, but mostly childish pranks or for food. Right now we have alot of almost random shootings in Goes and Vlissingen (the beach you saw in the beginning of the film) that wasn't the case back then, atleast not to this extend

Not daily like they did back then, but we still have many organisations that make ''Klederdracht'' (the old clothing you see) and they use those on special occasions. Also a part of our population is, pardon my english, reformed protestant, which is a sort of more religious version of the regular protestant church. They still go to church 3 times on sunday and holidays and i believe the kids go on wednesday evenings aswell. They aren't allowed to watch tv and so on and thus live a very conservative life. The ladies wear hats when they go to church, and they never wear pants. The men also still go in full suits to church every sunday. I definetly couldn't bear the life they live, but i do respect their dedication and i really love the class they show when going to church on sundays.
