The Bee Gees were a pop music group formed in 1958. Their lineup consisted of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their decades of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a popular music act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the mid-to-late 1970s. The group sang recognisable three-part tight harmonies; Robin's clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the mid-to-late 1970s and 1980s. The Bee Gees wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.
Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived in Chorlton, Manchester, England, until the late 1950s. There, in 1955, they formed the Rattlesnakes. The family then moved to Redcliffe, in Queensland, Australia, and then to Cribb Island. After achieving their first chart success in Australia as the Bee Gees with "Spicks and Specks" (their 12th single), they returned to the UK in January 1967, when producer Robert Stigwood began promoting them to a worldwide audience.
The Bee Gees have sold more than 220 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; the presenter of the award to "Britain's first family of harmony" was Brian Wilson, historical leader of The Beach Boys, another "family act" featuring three harmonising brothers. The Bee Gees' Hall of Fame citation says, "Only Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees."
Following Maurice's death in January 2003, at the age of 53, Barry and Robin retired the group's name after 45 years of activity. In 2009, Robin announced that he and Barry had agreed the Bee Gees would re-form and perform again. Robin died in May 2012, aged 62, after a prolonged struggle with cancer and other health problems, leaving Barry as the only surviving member of the group's final line-up.

I only discovered the Bee Gees at abut 10 years old, in 1975 with "Nights On Broadway", and I loved it. ( Not just because it's a great song, but I look forward to the Robin solo...such a unique voice.) Then, like you said, disco hit, and I still loved them, but thanks to KZbin, I have discovered their older stuff, and they're my favorite Bee Gee's songs. (Along with "Alone", which is one of my favorites. Much like Nights On Broadway, there is the Robin solo that I look forward to.)

What is it about Robin fans that so often they want to single him out separate and apart from the group as a whole. You don't see Barry or Maurice fans going to those lengths like that which is especially odd given that Barry typically sang lead and his falsetto is what led to the bands hallmark sound.

See, I always thought I was unique in loving Robin's voice. I felt that Barry was more their "lead" singer, and that's who most people probably preferred. I love Barry's voice, regular, or falsetto. (Preferably regular). Anyways, I've always felt that Robin's voice, even though always on pitch, had an odd sound, almost like he was singing into a can. That may sound negative, but it's not. It's what made it so compelling, and so unique. I've always loved it. I just didn't realize that I wasn't the only one.

@@loobyloo1955 - Canadian here but spent a lot of time in the UK, mostly Warwick, Coventry and Liverpool. I share the twins birthday in 1949. Robin had such character. He wasn't a heartthrob when he was young (more of a cute puppy dog) but I think he was HOT when he hit his mid 20's and onward. You never knew which Robin would show up, hair colour or mood, LOL. His intelligence, eccentricity and wit were SO attractive. A mysterious and complicated guy and who doesn't like mystery? Add to that the voice of an angel, the lips, the eyes, etc., etc., etc.! What part of London? I stayed with relatives in Hampstead Heath way back in the late 60's. As Samuel Pepys said, "When you tire of London you tire of life". True his voice was better for "pop" and Rob's for ballads but he was sure sexy singing "Bodyguard". Hope no Barry fans read this and attack. Just personal preference. A blizzard outside right now to add to Covid. :( Have you ever heard this? kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHLJmXlqpLCprc0 Robin found a backing track in their producer's office in Australia and decided to try out his new "big boy" voice doing a karaoke to it. I had a chance to see the Bee Gees three times in concert back in the seventies and I loved the guys from the very first time I heard them. MY all time favorite was Robin and to his end and still today I loved watching and listening to him. The guys made it really big so unfortunately I never got to see them on stage again but to this day I still watch EVERYTHING I can about them and watch them over and over. I'd love to be able to meet Barry after all these years. He was the first to be born and the last to still be carrying on for them. God Bless the 4 Bee Gee Boys/Men they were THE BEST

I feel the exact same way as you do. Never have seen them in person. But I listen to their music every single day. I also wish I could go to Barry's home and meet with him and talk to him for hours.

The 60s & 70s music will put you on another planet that no one will understand unless you have a love of the 70s music. God....take me back to the 60s and 70s and leave me there....I'll be just fine.

Probably the best version of this song, Robin stood out - a true man's voice and look. No trace of feminine mixture, though some male singers have. I am not sexual prejudiced, but I really like a true man's voice.

The 20th century will become eternal as the musical century! The most beautiful songs were composed in this century, especially in its second half. They are harmonious compositions, with a lot of musicality, poetry, romanticism and a lot, a lot of talent! I feel honored to have been born and lived in this time full of such brilliant artists!

Igual a eles jamais teremos outros...
