A lot of y’all have been asking me about places I recommend off campus - stay away from Dobie 21 and anything owned by American Campus! Tons of people I know have hated these places (including me lol)

Yes. And it's just their management that sucks - they own a lot of buildings and often cut corners to save money instead of properly upkeeping their apartments. There's a lot of newer options that are higher quality

So I wanted to specifically ask about what's best for an engineering student. I got in for engineering which was unexpected and I'm leaning toward going to either UT or Texas A&M. I just wanted to know about a dorm near the engineering building and I prefer a less expensive dorm with max mid-price range. But yeah, housing is what I am worried about at this point, and I also didn't do my housing application as soon as possible like they said. This is because I really didn't think I would be able to get into engineering at UT. Still shocked about it. But yeah, I just wanted info on the dorm options available for my scenario.

Hi! This video is so helpful! I am a senior currently applying to Texas public schools and this is super great to hear the things colleges wouldn’t normally say in a tour guide or something and it’s coming from you, a current/recent student, and their opinions. I do have a question abt housing though that you didn’t mention. If you want to use the community bathrooms but you also want a Jack and Jill/private bathroom, is that an option? Since communal bathrooms are in the halls I would think that that’s possible. I would be so happy to have you answer this and your videos are really helpful and getting to understand college life before graduating! Keep up the awesome work!!

Congrats that's so exciting! I'd suggest Jester to meet a lot of ppl. Dorms and majors don't matter too much, it just depends on what experience you're looking to get

Alexis Austin oooh yeah but also kinsolving is a good way to meet lots of girls because it is smaller and more ppl go to their dorm events so it could be better if you’re more introverted🤔 jester can be kind of overwhelming

Kiana Chance in your lower division courses it sucks because you have 300-400 people in a class (Microecon, Macroecon) but when you get upper division classes become specialized based off of majors and it becomes smaller. I will admit finding classes sucks at first, so when you move in use that first week off to find the buildings where your classes are at and plan your routes. The big classes suck because office hours can have as many as 10 people and it’s hard for the professor to answer every question. GO TO TA SESSIONS!

Sorry for the late reply but the sooner the better. If you hold off until summer though a lot of rooms go down in price. So if its just you and you aren't too picky/down to roommate match, I would wait until August

Might be a dumb question, but for connecting bathrooms between two dorms would both dorms be of same sex? Or would they pair guys and girls with a connecting bathroom?

BEST DORMS: San Jac/Duren/anywhere athletes live. WORST DORMS: Jester East/West. Yeah you make a lot of friends in Jester but you can literally live all the way in Duren and just walk to Jester lol Btw I lived in Jester East freshman year, community bathrooms are the worst. I walked in one morning and the entire stall was covered in puke from one of the idiots that lived there too. Not to mention, bros like to shave their pubes and body in the showers lol As soon as you can move off campus, DO IT. The apartment life is so much better...

If you are just taking basic courses, like government or math, live in jester for your first year. During your second year when you start your engineering courses, you can live in Duran. But it’s honestly cheaper to live off campus. I lived in the north and west campuses apartments cause they were still relatively close to the engineering buildings and there are UT bus stops next to the apartments there Incase you don’t feel like walking.

Weekends off but I recommend using that to study at least an 1-2 hours every day for each class if you want a 4.0

Citlaly Alvarez best study spots are on top floor of the SAC, McCombs study lounge, and basically any library on campus. I didn’t find the top floor of the SAC until senior year. Lol it has a great view, you get fresh air and sunlight , and hardly anyone goes up there. If you’re looking for pure quiet, then PCL 3rd, 4th, and 6th floors are the way to go.

Isis Martin you never see athletes to be honest, the only way is to actually hit em up. Best way is to go to parties & I recommend San Jac if you have good money.

One thing to look at as an exchange student is the co-ops. They are big shared houses with people from all over.

St. Vincent if you stay up there you get accepted automatically!! You do still have to do the application process

- Arias congrats!! So I would start searching scholarships on websites outside of UT, there’s a lot out there just for international students. Then UT may offer you some but I’ve heard international students rarely get money from the school :(

Roland Davis Yeah you can get a single room, but they’re very limited and much more expensive. You can check the email UT housing sent out yesterday to show the prices.

Roland Davis if you’re a freshman you probably will have one since most dorms are shared, but when you become a sophomore you can move off campus into a 1 bedroom. If you have a car or don’t mind the bus, stay in Riverside. You can find studios for 750-800, it may sound like a lot but believe me it can be worse lmao

Show them your capabilities through the first classes. They will intentionally give you tough courses in the beginning to weed out the people who are serious about the profession. Make good grades in those first courses and keep them quiet ;)

The prices are different for each dorm and they vary depending on factors, so you wouldn't know the price until you get your housing offer
