Yeah, diving headfirst is a good way to find out what works for you. All the reviews and 4chan threads I saw were telling me that the way to go would be either clicky switches or linear switches, but after trying a bit more and buying some cheap mechanical to use daily I found out that tactiles are the switches for me.

Feels like linears are, well, too non-tactile, that you get no response from them. Don't like it. Personally gonna get/build my first "serious" mech, a lily58.
