Thank you! Yeah man, shifter cables are a wear item on most modern 6m/t civics, and maintaining the lifespan of the cables comes down to the bushing design and how the car is driven (track vs street). I also recommend checking on Acuity in another month or so because their fully adjustable short shifter should be released by then. That should be the best shifter mod money can buy in my opinion :)

What happen if you put little cut bushing in different position?
@Pawinning
@Pawinning 6 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I'm confused by what you mean. Are you asking if there is a specific rotational position for the bushings within the cables? both bushings just need to be installed into the cables in the orientation shown in this video and their website install guide. If you install the bushings upside down, you risk damaging your cables. When you remove your old bushings, just mark the cable with a sharpie to note the cable orientation to avoid confusion.

Currently installing the Acuity base bushings and can't figure out how to get the 3 wiring harnesses off of the clips in the the shifter area, so that I can remove the entire center console. Help!
@Pawinning
@Pawinning 6 жыл бұрын
Hey man, you need a 90 degree pick in order to work the wiring clips out. Their installation guide has a picture of the clip geometry. You need to work on the two opposing tabs on each clip, keeping constant, but gentle tension on it. I’m actually in the process of editting a console disassembly video! Feel free to dm me on Instagram if you’d like to talk one on one 👌
@DavidSchleifstein
@DavidSchleifstein 6 жыл бұрын
Pawinning Thanks man. Had to abort for now, as I didn't have a pick. Will get one tomorrow for sure. I was able to find their PDF instructions with the diagram, but had a hard time seeing the structure of the release mechanism. Is the mechanism that I need to pick at on the back of the posts that the clips are mounted to, or is it a tab on the front? Can't believe that I got right down to the end and had to turn back. Argh.
@Pawinning
@Pawinning 6 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! And I’m sorry you gotta go through the console again to try it out. But I understand how the clips are confusing to get off. So when your looking at the wiring clip, there’s a circular flat disk on one side, with the tabs poking through on the other side. If you can reach behind to compress the tabs, great, but if you can’t you can slide the pick tool underneath the circular disc and compress the two tabs one at a time. I just work at them gently until the clip pops right out. Damn I wish these comments can post pics haha I’d draw a diagram. Just don’t pull too hard or the tabs will bend and become like a barb and won’t come out. TBH, once you remove them, just zip tie them back to make any future disassembles easy

On the Type R install video (Found on Acuitys page) you removed quite a few extra components. On this install for the SI it seems like you only removed the battery. Is this correct? That you only need to remove the battery/support bracket? Or should I follow the Type R installation on my SI like you did in the video on the Acuity channel and remove the other parts?
@Pawinning
@Pawinning 4 жыл бұрын
The installation on the Si is much easier than the type r, for the SI you are correct only the battery/support needs to be removed to get optimal access to the bushings. Definitely check out the guide if you need it on their website 😎: www.acuityinstruments.com/install

These seem like they will get dirty an where out from dirt getting in them pretty quick. Is there a good way to clean them or a grease I should use? I would think a full synthetic grease would work well. I have 2009 Accord 2.4L 5-speed manual and it has the same bushings but I can't find one that says it works on my car even though I know they will. They need a more complete fitment guide.

Hey man! I'm happy to help you out. As long as you bought shifter cable bushings for the 10th gen Civic, I believe you have the correct bushings for your car. From my experience, there should be no reason that you'd get locked out of one gear tho, have you installed any other parts besides these cable bushings to the car that changes how the car shifts? Regardless, I would double check around the bushings in your engine bay to make sure nothing is interfering with how the bushings move with the transmission linkages. In addition to that, if you could message acuity instruments on Instagram with a picture of your installed bushings we can help you verify a correct install 👍

@Pawinning

I would say no it won't void your warranty (don't hold me to it tho, this is based on my friend's experiences here in MA). Car dealers cannot deny a warranty claim unless they can prove that aftermarket parts are the root cause of the failure of an oem part.

@@Pawinning just got mine installed. I ended up removing the whole tray. there just didnt seem to be enough room to pry the clips off without doing it. Don't know if the coupe is any different but it seemed tight.
@Pawinning
@Pawinning 5 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you got it done successfully! It is a tight squeeze I can agree with that especially prying with a flathead. I found that using channel locks to pry the clips out like pulling a nail out with the back of a hammer works great. Might make a video for that actually cuz I learned it from Russ from acuity only recently!
@Panaxxxx
@Panaxxxx 5 жыл бұрын
@@Pawinning I tried to do that with a pair of needle nose pliers it only pulled up just enough to get a flathead under the tab. Guess they were just tight since they had never been pulled off before. Either way, no more sticky 1st/2nd gear. There seems to be a little more side to side play now though which is weird. Hopefully the shifter assembly solves that problem when I get it in the next batch. 👍🏻

I’m sorry to hear that! Longevity-wise, these solid bushings should outperform the stock bushings at the very least. The materials won’t wear/degrade for a long, long time 👌. For me, I felt that the bushings made shifting less sloppy especially when temperatures were below freezing outside. I also doubt they’d use different bushings in newer Civics, but another source of play to address next on top of these bushings would be the base bushings on the shifter assembly.

Awesome video. My 2017 SI has a "crunch" that occurs with all upshifts to even numbered gears (the downwards ones). First to Second is definitely the worst. I see that you mentioned that these bushings eliminated a weird sound shifting into second - was this sound a kind of crunch?
@Pawinning
@Pawinning 6 жыл бұрын
Some “crunch” is normal due to the nature of how synchronizers move inside the trans. But these bushings remove the flex/play caused by the stock bushings as you shift and make shifting feel direct. There are other things I’ll be presenting to help further alleviate noise in the stock system from ACUITY 😌
@DavidSchleifstein
@DavidSchleifstein 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. On a stock car, is it normal for this crunch to only occur on the even gears? I find that shifting into 1st, 3rd or 5th results in a smooth slide into gear with a satisfying click at the end. By contrast, 2nd, 4th and 6th are often (but not always) accompanied by a crunching sound, and a feeling of shifting into gravel. This is all much different from the shifter on my old Prelude, which was silent and buttery smooth shifting into all gears with zero resistance.
@Pawinning
@Pawinning 6 жыл бұрын
No problem. You know now that u say that I do feel a similar difference shifting in even gears than odd. It could be a combination of other things that could make shifting feel crunchy in certain gears. If you check out on the Acuity channel there’s a gear shifting video where u see the shifting on the trans in action. I don’t know what else would cause that sound, but after thinking about it, if the car is moving the transmission has the freedom to flex under load due to other rubber mounts that dampen the vibrations. This flex may make the shifter cables push forward at a slight angle enough that it doesn’t perfectly align itself for a “smooth shift” mechanically (for even gears, they pull for odd gears as you’ll see in the video). Changing up the bushings to stiffer ones would eliminate flex and play in the stock system to bring out a sportier more mechanical feel that gives you confidence in the shift.

Don't be sorry, totally understand your perspective 😊. For me, the most noticeable improvement with these bushings was during harder shifts (during spirited driving or track racing). The rubber material of the OEM bushings are very compliant under hard shifts which can make shifts feel sloppy in comparison to the acuity cable bushings 🤘.

I've installed these and feel absolutely no difference whatsoever. Even my left-right/forward-back play feels identical. Granted, I already have the Acuity Short Shifter. Maybe that's why? Oh well, peace of mind with the better quality I guess.
@Pawinning
@Pawinning 4 жыл бұрын
Totally hear where you're coming from. After working with these bushings and installing them in several cars (9th gen/10th gen civics, gk5 fits, etc), I've found that the most appreciable differences over OEM is during hard/aggressive shifts. I agree with you that it is likely more difficult to notice what has changed if you installed the full shifter assembly first because that unit is what really eliminates most of the play and slop in the shift linkage system. That being said, these bushings are designed to be less compliant than the oem cable bushings, so hard shifts should feel less spongy and more consistently crisp. You're also right that these upgraded cable bushings are also designed to outlast the OEM ones too. They have wear-compensating features, and the materials of the Acuity bushings won't degrade quickly like the OEM rubber material will :).
