RTR was such a great format. Limited was fun (minus pack rat), standard had some sick decks. And it was the return of shocklands. Plenty of things to find in the set.

Return to Ravnica was the first set that I opened, and in it, I pulled a foil Deathrite Shaman, a regular Deathrite Shaman, and I also pulled a Scavenging Ooze from a promo pack. Needless to say, Black/Green was my first deck I built from that. After that I found Blue/White and ever since then, I became a Blue/White player for the rest of my days I played since I was never a guy who liked aggressive, fast-paced decks. Looking back, I came into the game at the literal perfect time since Blue/White got their best cards in Return to Ravnica.

Seeing how stacked this set is, it would be really interesting to see top 10 magic sets or the sets with the most total points.

I remember when I played RTR Sealed ages ago, I wanted to go Golgari without knowing about Abrupt Decay. *Everyone* wanted Golgari because of that card, so they ran out and I had to go Izzet. Impressive to still see it played in every format.

I do NOT recommend purchasing any Ravnica Remastered. Just buy or or trade for the single cards. The value just isn't there to justify the price. Ravnica is one of my favorite planes in Magic, so when draft boxes drop to $60 and collector boxes drop to $120, I MIGHT pick up ONE of each. Meanwhile I'll just make a Ravnica cube for draft. Have fun cube drafting and don't buy any new products from WotC / Hasbro until Cynthia Williams and Chris Cocks are fired.

I'm both amazed and relieved that Pack Rat didn't make the list. I played Black Devotion ten years ago, because it was pretty much the only viable deck. But playing endless mirror matches with a deck that just makes everything a rat token got old real quick.

I know it would be way too much work to ever be feasible but I kinda wonder how these lists would change if they were weighted by number of copies played. It’s easy for popular sideboard singletons to rack up points very disproportionately to how often they actually get cast in games.

Rest in Peace gains some points beacuse of the combo with Helm of Obedience too.

Three Azorius and three Golgari cards. None from Selesnya. Also, you can tell that Wizards was a tad afraid of Lingering Souls and in Standard, considering so many cards printed in RTR hose tokens. Same goes with graveyard effects in general, which make sense as Innistrad block preceded RTR.

It's funny to talk about obnixious blue players when talking about "uncounterable spells" when blue routinely gets effects to step around uncounterable.

Its insane to think even RTR's #10 card has so many points. This was the first set of MTG I played a competitive 60 card format for (standard) and I even recall at the time lamenting how much stronger the previous block's cards (Innistrad and Scars block before that) seemed during it's time in Standard. I complained about this because since it was my first competitive format, I had plenty of RTR cards from drafting but none of the older stuff (to the chagrin of my wallet). Funny how 10 year younger me never recognized just how powerful some of these cards were. But looking at them now (with much more experienced eyes) I think I would've laughed at myself.

Has Nizza done best land cycles? I'm curious as to how fetches and OG duals stack up against each other.

Imo fetches are much more powerful, though that's due to the existence of duals/shocks. If they were not fetchable fetches would be much weaker. A single dual gives you access to two colours. A single fetch gives you access to all five. In terms of how much play they've seen I imagine fetches take it due to the formats being split between original duals and shocks in terms of what they have available.

Not really worth it IMO. The scores for fetches and shocks would be insane due to them being in 99% of the decks that top 8 every event since printing. And naturally the older and more repinted the land cycle, the more likely it has tonnes of points.

Looking back, Green/Black was the most well-supported deck back in this set, and Blue/White control came in a close second. This was the set that defined Blue/White and Green/Black for a very good while, and in Modern, Deathrite Shaman, Abrupt Decay, and Grisly Salvage were the 3 cards to look at until Deathrite Shaman got the axe, and even then, it still is the reason to play the deck now for the most part.
