Southern California rider here, from Los Angeles. I have racked up 745 miles on my Apollo City Pro. I am 6 foot, about 220 pounds and I have really been impressed commuting with this scooter! It is a beast; the power and performance are top notch. The range/battery life is fairly decent, I ride WOT a lot and have my acceleration maxed in the app and can achieve 20+ mile range. The Regen brake is fantastic, and I use it 95% of the time, even fresh off a full charge with no problems whatsoever. The only time I use the drum brakes is for emergency braking.

It's great to hear about your positive experience with the Apollo City Pro scooter. As an ebike user myself, I recently came across a new project called the freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike. It's a game-changer, allowing you to charge the bike indoors! The Morph eBike offers a brushless 750W motor, impressive torque, and a top speed of 20mph. Its suspension and puncture-resistant fat tires ensure a smooth ride on any terrain. You should definitely check it out! Keep riding and enjoying your commute!

I almost bought this over the Ghost because of the puncture resitant tires. I was afraid of low range, but you appear to get good range. However, I am on pause with this. My E-TWOW is still kicking with almost zero maintenance after 6 years and I think I will run it in the ground before going with this. The range and speed of the Apollo options are what I prefer, but the maintenance and weight and carry ability seems to be a caveat. Thank you for the great honesty in this video. I was almost going to pull the trigger because of yet another 'sale' with the countdown clock.

Thanks for your information about Appollo. I'm a Big Guy... 6'7", 290lbs (bouncer at bars) and originally, the Phantom and Ghost were the only ones I found that can carry 300lbs (me plus gear). After hearing all of your concerns, I chose to avoid Appollo and found the Emove Cruiser S that carries 352lbs and gets 99km's, while the Phantom only gets 64km's, and the Ghost only gets 60km's.
@Yielar1
@Yielar1 Жыл бұрын
The Emove Cruiser S is a decent commuter but it does have some drawbacks. It has the older style 18650 battery cells which aren't as good and won't last as long as the newer 21700 cells. Doesn't have IP66 dust and water proofing like the 2023 City Pro which I think is important for longevity. Only has a 6 month warranty which I think should be a minimum 1 year but longer if possible.

Excellent, candid review! Most helpful to someone like me just getting interested in e-scooters and considering my first purchase. This scooter checks most of the boxes for me except it doesn't have an easily removable battery in the deck like the AnyHill UM-2. I would have to lug this scooter up and down quite a few steps every time it needed charging and my body nor my landlord wouldn't particularly like that.

Great and fair review. I opted for the Apollo Air as I wanted a lighterweight option that had similar features to the City but wanted the peace of mind of an IP66 rating. Turned out to be a total sham. Scooter took on water just from riding on wet ground/in light rain. Have spent over $1500 and now have a brick in my living room. Wish I had heeded the advice of others before buying.

Thinking about returning it and taking the loss. Think may have gotten a used returned scooter as well, was'nt packed fully properly or the box secured twice with wrapping strap and one of the syrafoam packing things was already broke in two, only one strap on it and the handlebar was already plugged in to stem cord.

Hi Nic, thanks for the videos about the Apollo City 2022, very interesting. Bough it even tho you don't recommend it yet. I love it, waterproof enough for my needs (test it intensively in wet/dirt/snow condition and passed the test easily). I found a fix for the hood always unlatching. I reversed the upper hook (by punching the pin out towards the left handle) and made the loop smaller by heating and clamping just a little so it can pass throught the lower hook. Works great after that, it was annoying me too much to leave it like that. Thanks again for the reviews and videos!

6 months later, my apollo city pro, has some things needing addressing. First, regen brake and throttle sticking, was addressed by apollo as they sent me replacements free of charge. I installed them and now all sticking has been addressed and these new ones are smoother. After installation, the bell is basically non-functioning due to the regen being larger and now the fit is too tight. I didn’t really use the little dinging bell anyway, preferring an Orb light/horn instead. Second issue, is hook to latch to carry the scooter but since it didn’t lock you’re counting on the weight (a little heavy 72 lbs, but not impossible to lift) to keep it from un-catching mid-carrying. It seems to be resolved with a replacement hook (there’s a spring loaded lock) that’s not available yet. The app is good, but i have to re-enter preferences like max speed due to it resetting to 12mph top speed after powering down the app. love the dual motors, decent distance, handling. There’s a new kickstand out which i’ll determine if it’s needed. There’s also a new handlebar kit coming soon, with improved accessories on it, including the kickstand and hook. Perfection would be everything the same but 20 lbs lighter for carrying upstairs, perhaps new materials and battery in the future. Kudos to apollo for enhancing the city pro ‘22 rather than just forgetting about it’s customers and telling us to just buy the next model as if we want a garage with unused scooters.

Great video. I have city pro since august, 1900 km on the clock. I had pretty much every problem with it possible. One of the worst things is the handlebars, each handle is connected to the middle unit by only one screw, I happened to lift my scooter with the handles over the curbs and that caused movement in handles over time, cannot tighten them threads must be damaged, It wouldn't last long for anyone jumping off the curbs. Poor design with the handles in my opinion. I would rather have solid handlebars. Btw my brake adjustment is completely rusted can't move it anymore :D Subscribed!

I love your pointing out the IP ratings on scooters. To say anything is a "Commuter" tool, it HAS to be IP66. Or "Off Road". How can anything be off-road and not be dust proof and water proof (well or IP66). I saw one reviewer saying its because the "plug & Play" connectors can't be IP66. As usually, most of the reviewers are not knowledgeable in what they are talking about. They are cheap infomercials! Great video, thank for doing such a great review. Since then I commited to buy one without any breaking and throttle issues because safety is priority for me. I think the scooters priced 2x times shouldn't have similar issues. I hope their 2023 upgrade will fix everything. A whoobly handlebar is the second one I'd fix before buying it. Dude you keep mentioning the Segway, as so many reviewers do, but I’ve read horror stories about Segway scooters and the abysmal customer service. No replacement parts especially for those weird size tires you mentioned (10.5”vs10”). And scooters from Segway that don’t even function out of the box. Google it.

The 2022 Ghost is like you'd say, good dual motors, ok suspension & more speed than is remotely safe. The Ghost remains a "startup quality" scooter that is simply not meant for serious, daily riding. Every bolt will come loose after a few rides. Grab a 5mm Allan key & go around the scooter, re-tighten them all, 2 or 3 more rides, repeat. The brakes are awful. They're bicycle-level parts slapped on something that goes (slow) motorcycle speeds. Hit a puddle, the brakes are exposed & will absorb everything you ride over. The stock tires are almost guaranteed to go flat if you ride over anything but smooth tarmac. If a gravel walkway or the odd bump are in your future, order your tires now. If you want to buy anything from them, you've got the choice of $25 shipping....or nothing. Want 2 $10 brake pads? That'll be $50, please. Immediately buy replacement tires, preferably ones with better grip, and pour in that no-flat liquid to prevent flats. Be ready with some very strong clamps when putting new tires on and keep your tires inflated exactly to the PSI recommended. The charging cable provided is ok, but the charging ports (there are two for no reason at all, only one can be used at once) are poorly located along the side of the base, with only an incredibly cheap flap of rubber to cover each port. Support can be very good (start a chat from their website), or it can be bad (try to reach them through email - it could be a day, it could be 3. They're persistent with asking you to rate the service. They've got a couple of helpful KZbin vids on how to change tires & adjust brakes, but there's no support for beginners on what accessories to get, why, and who can fix your scooter if you don't live near a repair center. The kickstand is really cheap, but it works so far. The LED readout with battery/drive mode info is really dim, especially on bright days. The 'ECO' button is a ridiculous waste of time. The button to switch from single to dual motor is really cheap - it works, but there's no feedback on whether it's been pressed since it tends to line up with the 'ECO' button. There are two small lights on the front of the foot board that have never worked on mine. In fact, I still have no idea how they turn on, if ever. Buy yourself an extra set of tires, tubes, a couple of bicycle lights, a helmet, a bike lock, a high quality set of metric allan keys, perhaps a battery powered electric air pump. The rest of the components, as long as you tighten the bolts holding them on frequently, are good. The Ghost is "illegal" in almost every province in Canada due to existing but ancient laws, but most cops will leave you alone. Just remember, you're not a vehicle, you're not a pedestrian. Walk the thing across crosswalks, and yes, if you go 50km/h in a 30km/h school zone, you can & should get a ticket. These things are NOT for children & if you ride them stoned or drunk, you get a DUI. The floorboard is not trunkspace & the front steering column is not something you hang bags from. These things are almost silent. Having a dumb bicycle bell on them might seem like a waste of handlebar space, but the bell is very handy to make sure people hear you & it's actually required by law.

I was going to buy this scooter for 1250$ cad but all these issues make me want to pass. I already had 2 apollo phantoms which were plagued with issues and two apollo cities with dead batteries. Warranty is a joke with Apollo. The company doesn't seem like it changed for the better at all.

I was looking at the apollo explore a few weeks ago and noticed i cant find it on the website anymore unless i check the refurbished section where its still available for around $800. Anytime i click on links related to the explore it takes me to the city 2022 so i became interested in that one instead. After watching this video and a few others im thinking i should go for something different. Im looking for something reliable and repairable so i can make sure it last a few years. I purchased a gotrax rival a few years ago and have put over 4000 miles on it riding to and from work every day. I spent less than $400 for it new and it has held up strong just needing some new tires so my expectations for a $1000+ scooter are pretty high. Anyone have any opinions about refurbished scooters? Im considering buying one of the refurbished apollo explores but im curious what someone experienced when they got a refurbished scooter.

@@nicthedoor update. i purchased the scooter and then me and 2 other riders were hit by a car. We were crossing at a cross walk and the guy turned into us. My scooter was swept under the car and took the cars full weight and then it started pouring rain and hailing while we were in the ambulance so the scooter just sat through it. It snapped the left handlebar off and bent the stem. Scooter still works though and is a freaking tank to take the full weight of a car and still survive. Loved it the 2 days I had it lol. Will Hopefully repair this one if not will buy another one day. I emailed the company they are out of the parts I need unfortunately so I'm not sure when I could get parts to get it fixed. Thinking of attempting a repair that will get it up and running for now but I'm not sure if that's going to be possible with the amount of damage. Thanks for the $50 discount code that I was able to use anyways lol. I don't think I was meant to have this scooter though. First FedEx delivered it to the wrong house and I had to wait over a week before i was able to get it and thought I was just going to be screwed and now this happened lol. At least im alive.

The fake sale happens with distributors as well. Best Buy in U.S. had a count down clock that ended last night but the next day, the price is still $300 off. It seems like the actual price for City dual motor as of this post is $1500. Anything more is a tax on stupid. Anything less is a real sale.

I have many of the same issues you're having except for the regen braking during a ride. Instead of that, for me, when I'm riding with the app open, the app will "lock" the scooter mid ride. So it ain't braking but I ain't accelerating either so I just have to stop, unlock the scooter from the app, switch to sport mode, and go. So because of this I obviously don't use the app anymore. It's a shame that the lock feature wasn't working as intended for me. It's honestly a good idea to prevent thieves from just riding off with my scooter. But if it's locking on me while I'm riding, it's no good. I also had an out-of-the-box issue to and had to wait a few weeks for a replacement handlebar. Thankfully they were responsive and they were able to assist me during holiday week (Thanksgiving) in the US. For problems like mine, I do feel that this and others would have been solved with proper QAQC. You see this in every industry. When business people want money fast, or an unreasonably short time table (which is still more money), they cut QAQC. Then we as customers end up with problems that have to be fixed. It's fortunate that Apollo actually addresses the issues. If you read the warranty and servicing pages of these newly emerging escooter and ebike companies, it's bad. They won't do squat for you. But Apollo is, so... there's some points for them. ADDED: But Apollo is still very limited in their willingness for cover things under warranty. Their warranty stuff is pretty strict. To add onto your shady business practice thing, Apollo sent me an email to review their product with the note of a "gift" once I do. I didn't respond to that email, and I have not made a review. But isn't that practice what got a lot of companies in trouble with their Amazon reviews? Like you ended your video with, it's not my intention to bash on Apollo either. I think they've got a pretty solid product here and it's working for me.
