I mean it depends what you are looking for I guess. For me Tesla is better not just because of the UI, but their entire computing power. It's more intuitive, more responsive, and that also results in a unmatched self driving technology that no other vehicle comes close to. To me the Tesla is a big computer that can take me somewhere without me having to do much. The Kia is an overall better vehicle for sure, but it just feels like a regular car but with a battery instead of an engine.

Kia/Hyundai are reimagining their EVs, and they LOOK BRILLIANT. Just looks beautiful and can't wait till the IONIQ 9 or the 2025 EV9 releases. HUD(Gt-line), massage seats (higher trims), heated and ventilated in some trims for the second row, usable three rows, pop out tray, etc. So much to offer.

Great review but 2 major errors. 1) Model X 6 seater costs $86,500 not $77k like you said. I guess you are confused about the gas savings that Tesla includes on the order page? 2) at 28:50 you said the Model X price for 6 seat and you said that it qualifies for the EV tax credit. This is incorrect, none of the 3 row Model X qualify for the EV tax credit. Only the 5 seater with no 3rd row qualifies.

I sat with a salesman and talked over all the new features of the EV9. The climate control screen is in a odd place but you can move it to the bigger screen on the right if you are more interested in climate than the map.

your charging lock issue is user error... you have to set for security purposes how you wanted it unlocked. I set my EV6 on "unlock car from keyfob". Its about getting to know your car rather than using the same "functionality" as how Tesla does it. we all know Tesla does the weirdest things. FYI, EV9 nor any Tesla has the capability to go "350". EV9 is technically a 500-600v car has max 211kwh speed, other e-gmp cars can get 240kwh max. The new Porche Taycan or Macan and Lucid are probably the few can go 300... maybe cybertruck or hammer EV.

The EV9 is nice. Tesla needs a longer Model Y for larger families. The X is awesome but too expensive and the FWD are cool and useful with kids but in many cases are less than ideal (I owned an X and now have a Y so have first hand experience). Tesla certainly need to extend the Model Y lineup - a longer one and an off road version. Doing so they’ll be able to sell more than 2m Model Y per year and open multiple markets.

I don't like the HVAC being "hidden" behind the wheel either in my EV9. I have found that the plus in the upper right corner of that small screen opens up an HVAC super interface in the right screen. We just recently went on a 1,500 mile round trip to FL from Chattanooga, TN. The charging was a bit of an issue with EA being unreliable. We used EA because our purchase came with 1,000kw free charging on EA with a deadline to use within 3 years and why not use free fuel. We saw a peak of 218kw when charging but I believe I read that they have it capped at 210kw vs the 350kw you mentioned in the video (but clearly I saw it exceed that). We also have a Kia Telluride so the UI we have gotten used to and don't find it problematic, although WTF, the steering wheel controls are mirrored on my 2024 EV9 from my wife's 2023 Telluride!!! Great review and I felt like you had many good points. I definitely felt like the front and rear hidden storage was just enough to say it was there not to be very useful. I do absolutely love the drive feel of the EV9 and the lane assist is really good but it is a little bit more aggressive compared to our Telluride in the same mode. I think discussing miles/kw that the Kia shows on one of the screens would be easier direct comparison for range capabilities, assume that Tesla has that same information. I have seen as high as 3.2mi/kw and average 2.7mi/kw which would be 270-320 miles (possibly). To reiterate, I think the charging issue is a big deal for trips. I have a level 2 at home so that is likely the only time it will be an issue for us.

So we have a Kia Sorento PHEV with three rows and we have a Tesla Model Y and the kids like riding in the Sorento much better because of all the room/Captains chairs. The Sorento is perfect for us because I can use it around town and never use gas because you have 30 mi of range. If we go for beach trips or something close to home we take the Model Y and because we have solar is free driving, however, because the Sorento is a PHEV, we take that on road trips/vacations, so ~5 times per year. and then we use it as a hybrid so we don't have to charge on road trips. That configuration works perfectly for us.

Oooookay! Been waiting for this one! Happy Birthday to Laikyn! 🎂 Wish I could have been in the 6th seat on this trip. I agree that E-GMP vehicles are more comfortable. But it's also true that their frunks and under cargo storage bins are minimal. I have found, however, that it's actually rare that you have to fill them to the brim. Bummer with the Electrify America charger, but… it happens, all too often. I've found that, if a 350kW unit is down, a 150kW unit actually charges nearly as fast, because they're still pulling over 100kW at 80% -unlike Teslas, that drop to half that rate. Also, the slow rate using Magic Docks isn't telling the whole story. Yes, most E-GMP cars that I've recorded only hit 97 kW from a Supercharger, but… and this is important… they're still pulling all 97 kW when they hit 80%! NOT so with Teslas, which drop to around 50kW. Ergo, they charge nearly as fast. Oh… you frustrated me trying to unplug! The emergency release cable is so convenient; too bad you didn't know it was there. The navigation does seem more clunky, but I've found that it actually does a very good job, despite not having the "cartoon" images you're used to in the Tesla on the touchscreen. And the heads up display more than makes up for that, in my not-so-humble opinion. As for ADA, I much prefer the cruise control, lane keep, and lane changing in E-GMP more than Autopilot in my previous Model 3. I have to chuckle over Landon's and Liam's reactions. I mean, honestly, I bet they'd rather have their games and videos on their OWN separate phones and iPads than just one screen in the car that they have to share. Tell me I'm wrong!

@shethjones44945 ай бұрын
Ui is total user preference. Kia interface is generally positively reviewed and easy to use. I'm not surprised a tesla or apple user would complain, that seems to be par for the course for anything that is different. Also the complaints they listed about not being able to pre condition were based on using carplay because they claimed the built in nav was so terrible. I haven't heard that elsewhere and if you use the built in navigation charging info and preconditioning are included just like Tesla. If you choose not to use that nav you forego those capabilities. That's not a UI flaw

There are other EVs I'd buy, but I also prefer to be able to use the Tesla superchargers over any other charger while away from home. If I were to buy a Kia then I'm still preferring the Sportage. H🤠WDY to the kidz!

The charging experience for EVs still seems pretty terrible for road trips. All of these videos convince me you need an EV for around town and one ICE for road trips that don't require so much waiting around.

No matter what's the review against Tesla there still running well up to 400T miles with low maintenance plus no battery change yet how bout the others like Kia, Hyundai & etc

I'm so close to getting an EV9 for my family (2 kids still in car seats) as a strict upgrade from our sedan, but given the economy, high interest rates, and surprisingly expensive true cost of ownership, this is really risky. A KIA vehicle being nearly a $750.00 per month lease is insane in today's economy. Not to mention cost of L2 charger installation and elevated insurance costs.

Will be an amazing upgrade you won't regret. 😊😊 Idk why they Kia hasn't talked about next year's model.

I noticed insurance for Tesla is much higher. Also verify if Kia had promotions like Hyundai where they give you a free charger plus some money for install.

@@OzzVidal I think Kia are giving $9000 customer cash which expires on July 8, 2024.

I thought that was you guys at the Leavenworth Electrify America, but I wasn’t sure, so I didn’t ask. I was in the ID.4 that was in the one working charger. That was the first and last EA on my road trip to Wisconsin and it was the only one that was being worked on. Three times I had to move to a different plug, but this year was so much better than last year’s trip because there were no chargers working at only 32kW. I mentioned that Tesla Superchargers also have the same issue at some places along I-90 in Montana where one plug wasn’t working and there was a line of cars waiting for the other three. For comparison on this trip I never saw another car at an EA station until I was in Iowa after Leavenworth. I have been interested in the EV9 Land mostly for cargo and it has a trailer hitch with the same tow rating as Model X. My issue with X since I mostly look at used ones 2020 or newer is the second row not folding unless you find a five seat. Most of the EV9’s have been discounted by $8-10k, but aren’t eligible for the tax credit unless you lease until the Georgia factory is going. Tesla has the best route planning software. I can’t speak to Kia’s, but with VW, I pretty much take the distance and add 60 miles of buffer to make it to the charger. The VW goes crazy at 20% and starts routing to other chargers than my target which is added stress. With my Tesla, it told me what percentage I would arrive with and unless there was a headwind I would meet, or exceed that. So with the Supercharger network and the route planning, I would lean Tesla, but Kia is making an impressive car and they seem to be pretty aggressively priced

waiting 30mins to charge your car, then going to another one and waiting again...gotta love EVs 😂

Charging in Europe is not a issue because all use same standard. All EVs can charge in Tesla network if they want.

9:31 Kim Java being Kim Java. 😊 For smaller families the X but larger ones the EV9 for sure. The roof rack like what your husband said. I would take the EV9 for sure. Nice family btw! Edit: Nice that you included the kids opinions at the end cause to me that matters a lot as well. I would say for younger families storage space is key. Once the kids get older then you won't need to lug around strollers anymore. The 3rd row space on the EV9 is bigger tho and not the same. The charging network will get better in the Kia so that shouldn't be a deal breaker imo. I personally have an EV6 GT but test drove the EV9 GT-line and loved it.

One thing missed is OTA. Tesla differentiates itself from others by improving its software over time.

Great video. I think you were very fair in your evaluations. One question. Does the Kia get regular software updates that often add features? This week my X got an update which opens the front automatic doors more fully. It was great. It also made the AC work better and quieter. Real nice.

800V equipment is actually more expensive and efficient. Tesla should move UP to 800V charging like Porsche, Lucid and (weirdly) Ki/Hyundai. But it requires more cost which is likely why we will never see it in our Teslas.

I drive a model 3 (started driving EV back in 2013 Nissan leaf), time to trade by wife’s bmw x5 and looking at going EV, but only considering those with 3rd row. I think some of the functional things are nice on ev9, but charging/ map up/ and I think the design will get dated quickly. Considered rivian r1s, but the efficiency is horrible. Considering model x, just not sure on 3rd row space. Hoping to test drive this week.
