Hi, nice content, and I appreciate your videos, but as a primarilly fixed wing RC pilot, I would like to add my 5 cents if you don't mind. The most important suggestion is go find a bigger field, experienced pilots quickly forget how stressfull those first flights are, and seeing trees around on all sides, with no option to stop and hover as you have with a quad is extremely stressfull for a beginner They spend more time looking at the trees they want to avoid instead of looking at the aircraft, which has the reverse effect and makes them more likelly to fly into them. I was playing with my umx at a small field close to my house and hating it, until I went to the big airfield I usually go with the big ones and there I loved it, because if you were unsure, just straighten it out and reorient yourself and don't worry about having to turn immediately, just throttle up and puch out anywhere but down and your good! The second suggestion would be to start with an ugly pusher prop airplane like an aeroscout, a beginner will do a lot of noseovers and crashes and will inadvertently damage the prop or bend the prop axle. and then its game over and wait for spare parts, so even though these pushers are ugly as hell, they are the best trainers. A compromise would be a carbon cub from horizon, as that one does look decent, has some mass to it, supports flaps (add an extra servo). It also allows for the gps and landing sensor options, so it would be a good one to start with if you bring some extra propellers. On the down side its a taildragger, which adds complexity to the takeoff and the landings, so better stick with a trycicle push plane :-) Also, I don't think starting with a UMX is a good idea, you really can only use them when there is no wind, especially with safe off they are very fickle. On top of that, when something inevitably breaks, its hard to repair, you can't just pick up a spare servo, you have to unglue and dismantle the entire plane just to get at a connector and if its a servo on the main board the whole aircraft is a writeoff. With regards to the Turbo Timber Evo UMX, I have the same plane, it flies really well, but just like with you, it came with the control surfaces uncentered. In my case both rudder and elevator were mechanically off-center to the point that it couldn't be fixed with trim. Since I was too eager to get up in the air and it was getting dark I didn't verify it, and ended up doing quite a bit of damage before heading back home to find a microscopic screwdriver. To me this was really disappointing. It's target audience really isn't the guys carrying a big toolbox to the field, so it should come out of the box ready to go. I really appreciate your videos and hope you do more fixed wing stuff as well, and maybe take it one step further and combine fixed wing with FPV, then throw in some head tracking :-)

You have GOT to try the umx conscendo. Its is amazing, more capable than this plane, and probably easier to fly.. due to its stall characteristics, which are non-existence. I have pushed it to stall but it just doesnt want to! I can fly at minimum throttle, and it flies perfectly, it flies even better with no throttle lol. For the price, you get a really great little plane. Just dont push the throttle...! 👍 its an amazing glider. It also includes flapperons and spoilerons. have fun flying!!!!

Good video and good job on flying I had the umx TT evo and when I was done with it I gave it to my friend who never flew rc and he is having a blast with it so this is a good starter too

I feel that if it was sold RTF it would make a good first plane. Apparently HH/E-flite does not consider their UMX line being beginner planes.

The UMX timber evolution is not considered to beginner plane. It’s considered an intermediate skill level two! Not really sure why I assume because it has flaps? Possibly 3s power? It’s a great plane! The Micro Draco it’s very similar but with 4s power, personally, the timber is still faster on 3s then the Draco on 4s!!

Congrats, that was a great maiden! She did pretty good for a beginner with an intermediate plane! Not really too sure why they call the turbo timber evolution and intermediate plane but they do it is a skill level two! Other than that great job! If I was her and I wanted to become a better pilot, I would probably invest in a second generation DX7 then you can try some mixing say of your ailerons & rudder personally! You can achieve more STOL flight characteristics like a bush plane! Great for smaller areas!

Yeah she's not bad! The DX6i has mixes so a DX7 is not necessary. But IMO mixing ailerons and rudder is a crutch that can get in the way of actually learning more advanced techniques like coordinated turns or even using opposite rudder and aileron mid-turn.

I like your more thoughtful evaluation of this plane. You get into more specifics than most of the KZbin videos. I'm wondering---you say this is just Spektrum specific, could you bind this to a multi-proticol radio like a Radiomaster TX16?

Thanks! If the transmitter supports DSM2 or DSMX it will work. So yes, the Radiomaster TX16S will work

This is definitely not a beginner plane. The box actually States that it is a second plane for intermediate pilots. If you have never flown anything Remotely you will be extremely disappointed. You will need a big bottle of CA foam glue. It is not EPP foam and therefore is not as flexible as beginner planes and will snap and dent far easier as it is much more delicate. You would be way better off with a plane like The Apprentice stol as this plane is much more forgiving, more flexible and less likely to break. Until you can fly successfully out of safe mode I would not attempt to fly this plane. Unless of course you have very deep pockets and can afford to keep on buying new ones.
