Hey mate awesome vid, can I get some tips for that spot ? Lures and rod reel and line sizes ? Not asking for all your secrets but would really appreciate a few tips
@FishingwithMarkiMark2 жыл бұрын
Hey man, depends on what species your after. Generally for kings the longer the rod the better. You wan't to pump n wind the fish before they hit the pylons underneith you. So a 8 foot - 9"6 rod PE 4-6 is perfect. Reel would be a SW6000-SW8000 with PE4-5 line. Leader I personally run 40-50lb would be pretty safe. Fish unweighted with live prawns, cubed pilchards on a size 3/0-4/0 hook and you'll have a blast. Can throw out bigger livies but you'll have to run a larger ball sinker straight to the hook so the bait doesnt swim around the pylons. Set your drag ready to go as you generally want to get the fish up there pretty quickly. Goodluck!

Good to see you out fishing, Marki, have you ever lost rod and reel leaving them on the timber and attending to other rods? One 25cm bream and pull them into the water, happened to myself and a few friends...
@FishingwithMarkiMark4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words mate and thanks for watching. Hope you've been well and been able to get out for a fish. Arghh not really man, haven't had a problem for years. I place the first strip guide in the groove of the wharf. I also open my bait and put my slack line in the rubber band situated around rod. It acts like a downrigger clip, when it pops I know a fish is on. I can see how you'd loose a combo, especially if its windy or if the line gets caught around a part of your reel or rod causing it to take the whole setup in :(

Hahaha man can't go wrong! Some of the the fish we have pulled up from here - John Dory, Snapper, Flathead, Huge Sawtail Surgeon (which fight like 1m kingfish), Huge Mulloway, Flathead, Bream, Trevally, Yakkas, Slimeys, Bonito, Frigate Macs, Mack Tuna, Leaping Bonito etc. The biggest king I caught from this place was 90cm to the tail. I have been humbled by some monster fish 1.1m+ which I have on my KZbin channel. I've seen my buddies land 1.15-1.2m Kingfish 18kg+ or so! Just never know whats lurking under the rats :D Will swing by now and watch mate, bags are ready!

Great vid mate can I ask what p leader do you use for the kings and how long your trace is from the float
@FishingwithMarkiMark4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words mate, mate I've caught legal kings here on 10lb, I normally catch a fair few on 30lb which is quite safe. If I know its the season for larger kings I'll step it up to 50-60lb. I ran this without the float, leader I do about 8 wraps around my spool, need that extra long leader at this spot!

Pleasure, when the sun is low about 2-3m as they come up on top. As the sun gets high and the fish go deeper I adjust about 5m+ . But not too low or you’ll get picked.

Hey mate for fishing for kings or Jewies is it best to have a baitrunner reel or spinning reel or doesn’t matter to much and what brand and type would you recommend Thanks
@FishingwithMarkiMark4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I'm not really a jewy specialist but baitrunners work great for jewies as you set the drag loose when they take the bait or if they feel tension they will spit it. I don't have any baitrunners as I find its just one mechanism that can go faulty. I just run heavy duty SW reels from Shimano & Daiwa. I generally preload the drag and fish open bail. Once the fish hits, i let him swallow the bait, close bail, hookset and fight fish! (Y)

Are the fish good to eat from the harbour area some people say they are fine some say they are not so not sure is this spot still ok for fishing these days ?
@FishingwithMarkiMark4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, its totally personal preference. I only eat the odd Kingfish & Bonito from the harbour as they are a pelagic fish. Most of them don't stay in the harbour all year round. Also please refer to - www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/recreational/fishing-skills/fishing-in-sydney-harbour - for safe consumption levels of fish from the harbour.

Great vid mate What reel size do you recommend for kings and jewfish
@FishingwithMarkiMark4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, thanks for the kind words. Really depends on your style of fishing, land-based, piers, break walls, boats. There is no reel that does it all. You can catch a jewfish on rather light gear in the estuary's etc. Have a look at what i run in the description box below the video :) hope that helps!
