@justaperson46562 жыл бұрын
Iirc there weren't many other roles to audition for. Theatrically speaking, the two know each other relatively well, so they'll have a sort of smoothness on stage that you wouldn't get from putting two randos together. I get it's weird to have a brother/sister duo play love interests, but ryan wanted to support his sister, and there weren't any other roles

The thing that gets me is that... Kelsi wrote the entire show. It's established that Sharpay and Ryan have always been playing the leads in all the productions, they're the only ones to even sign up for it. Knowing all this, Kelsi decided to write a romantic musical with a very prominent male/female lead couple. Which, she was well aware, would be played by twins. Kelsi, what the fuck?

I actually know the Pink Jelly thing (!!) because I watched this movie on Disney Channel WITH annotations because that's a thing they did in the late 00s. The annotation for that scene said that when actors and extras are just doing general ambient chatter in the background they don't have a script, so it's all improvised. Which means that Zac Efron had to improv something about winter break, and went with 'pink jelly'. I will take my $100 in donations to a good cause.

As one of the handful of people who actually like "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" (it's my main comfort movie and favorite trash movie), I feel the need to explain in this polite screed why I love it. The two main things about this movie that I’ve gathered piss off HSM fans is that unlike it's predecessor, it's not a musical, and apparently Sharpay was sassier in high school, but I barely remember HSMs 1 - 3 (honestly, that’s probably my greatest flaw and the main reason I love this dumpster fire). However, I’ve found that there are some legitimately enjoyable parts of the movie if you divorce it from that original context and engage with it on its own terms. I admit that it's an utterly ridiculous movie at times, but there's so much to make memes and drag personas out of it that I can't dislike it. In fact, I think I like it partly because it’s so ridiculous and the actors don’t seem to be taking it too seriously, rather than in spite of it. Like, how has no one made a drag persona out of Amber Lee Adams? She oozes drag energy! I just adore this movie, I first watched it when I came out, and now I watch it when I'm stressed about adulting. The two things about SFA that really stood out to me when I was barely 9 and watching it premiere at my then-best friend’s house (with the deleted Ryan scene at the end), was how much Sharpay struggled with chores she’d never done before, having a shitty job, and struggling to make it in a creative field. I then spent the next nine years between viewings developing diagnosed depression and anxiety and finding my own creative passion in writing. Then high school graduation was coming up. I was failing math, I barely understood the math-y parts of science, and I was feeling like a failure. My anxiety was at a peak that it had never gotten to before or since. I knew I would be going to college, and that in the next few years I’d have to get my own place, maintain a home, probably work a few less-than-ideal jobs, and somehow try to make it as a writer. So, out of desperation, I went to my local library and picked up a copy of SFA on DVD to watch on my computer. And what I found was a lighthearted, silly, at times hilariously over-the-top movie, where all the actors more or less knew they were in a dumpster fire, and some even played this up (which is why Amber is my favorite non-dog character). The romantic montage between the dogs set to a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” sung by Lucas Grabeel (he played Ryan) never ceases to make me chuckle and cheer me up. The romance between Sharpay and Peyton, while basic and done before, was legitimately cute and one of the first times my sheltered child self got to see a healthy canon couple on screen, and I love that for them. This was also the first piece of metafiction I ever saw. Were the few songs present in this movie amazing? God no! One of the songs is the oft maligned “Baby,” “Me and My Boy/Girl,” is cute but unremarkable, and “New York’s Best Kept Secret,” while being my jam, is also the most milquetoast way they could’ve recounted the plot in music form. Do I still like the music? Yes. And “New York’s Best Kept Secret” is just what I need when I need to remind myself to keep pushing to make my dreams come true, and no one can take that away from me. My enjoyment of this movie is mine, and mine alone. :)

BUT we didn't do that to the version that Troy & Chad sing/perform in the film! No, because that would be too simple xD We did it to the Us5 COVER VERSION, of course! xD So there's a whole bunch of (at the time) 10/11-year-olds whose first day at secondary school experience was the 11/12-year-olds from the year above them doing a choreographed dance number to the COVER of a HSM song played as playback xD

No ones talking about how they dressed. I absolutely love how different they dressed in the 1st compared to now. They stuck to certain color schemes. Sometimes I noticed their outfits matched the colors of the different LGBT + pride flags. Gabriella wore colors to suggest she may be a trans lesbian or pansexual., Sharpay wore colors aligning with lesbian colors as well. Ryan, similar to Gabriella's actually, stretched each color of the rainbow(GAY). Taylor was shown colors a few times suggesting they may be non-binary. Chad, (besides their obvious hookup with Ryan that's totally canon), wears colors suggesting they are agender. Kelsey wears a lot of different stripes accumulating in either a rainbow or similar fashion, though we see she's interested in Jason and I think we all know she has a girl crush on Sharpay , so I think it's safe to assume she's pansexual. The fabulous Mrs.Darbus has so many colors in her extravagant fits. Some suggest she's a lesbian and others are are more rainbow type patterns. Everyone in theater is gay we know that. Except for Troy who only wears blue apparently, unless he's playing basketball. The token straight. In this essay I will....
