I've been running DoubleTake adventure and dual sport mirrors on literally every off road motorcycle I've owned over the last 7 years. They're my favorite product because they're indestructible and infinitely adjustable, and they offer a much better field of view when compared to stock mirrors.
Somehow, Doubletake has taken an amazing product and made it even better by adding an uncrushable ball, bigger adjustment knob, a new arm design, and a load of other small improvements including extending their lifetime warranty to cover every part of the new motorcycle mirror design. Doubletake mirrors are the best motorcycle mirrors out there and in this video I'll walk you through the improvements to the new Double take mirrors as well as the new Double Take mirror install process.
Get yourself a pair of the new Doubletake Mirrors here: www.doubletake...

Heavy crasher tip: I run my doubletake's with the adjuster handles facing the front of the bike so they don't catch and grab onto loose parts of my riding gear on my way down. Trust me when I say that crashing is slightly less comfortable when your arm is bonded to the mirror arm as you're heading quickly to the floor. As me how I know LOL.

Doubletake needs to invest in better glass in their mirrors. One trip and you start to see fine scratches all over the glass no matter how careful you are. Also, a clamp at each end works way better than a single clamp in the middle. You want to be able to adjust the mirror without messing where you have the arm set.

The funniest thing is that I rode with Tall Man this weekend. He slid out his front end with some snow and ice. He was upset about the attachment adapter on the old system....until he saw on his video that it was his foot that kicked it and broke the adapter..This system will keep that from happening....Thank you for the video Ben.

I prefer the Touratech on the ADV bike since I seldom remove the mirrors or even fold them down. They stay in place better, are less bulky, and if you want to fold them in its' just a quick flip back and forth and don't have to re-adjust when you return to the folded-out position. With typical ADV bike tip overs they just fold in if the bike even falls over enough touch them. I think the Doubetake are better for dual sport bikes where if you take it off road where mirrors aren't required it's easier to just pop them off all together and they seem more robust for more extreme crashes or if you hit a branch at speed, etc. But I can never get them to fully hold the position when adjusted no matter how hard I torque them down, and then when you do need to adjust it's kind of a pain. I break it down too, if you like using mirrors, use the Tourtech, if you just have a mirror to meet legal requirements, double take, somewhere in the middle just have to consider those factors.
@ohTHATaaronbrown
@ohTHATaaronbrown 3 ай бұрын
I tried the touratech mirrors, and found them completely unusable for highway speeds - they shook so bad I couldn't see anything in them. The doubletake mirrors have no such stability issues at freeway speeds.

I've got 2 bikes with Double Take V1 mirrors, and while I absolutely love them, I can also attest that the handlebar side loosening more than you'd like while adjusting can be annoying. Glad to see they improved on this iteration.
@CJTheReal

You can fix that simply by flipping the arm around. One side opens more because it's spring loaded, so if you put that side that the mirror attaches to, it solves that problem immediately

"Crushing Balls" is no good except maybe in this case it would keep your mirror from moving easy. The "reverse thread, crap" is probably so the mirror will not loosen or will so it don't break. The new one without the soft Balls may not be as good but thanks for testing all this stuff for everyone! Can't wait to see more DR650 videos because I'm a big guy also! Any chance a DR is in the near future? I would want a DRZ also where you live but Ohio is mostly back roads or an hour ride to a place to ride (with back injuries I want mild instead of wild adventure)so dirt roads would be great as long as we are allowed on them.

I recently dropped my Transalp in the garage. It was not running. It broke off both stock mirrors's mounts after hitting the doors of the workbench that was on the right side to the bike The mirrors and their arms were unmarked and displayed no visual damage. But the lever perch mounts to the handlebars were the mirror adapter threads into the female threaded hole snapped off for both mirrors. The weakest point I guess. The bike fell to the right side with the mirriors hitting the doors of the workbench that was on the right side to the bike. I was standing on the left side and could not hold the bike up once it started to tilt too far over away from to the its right. I was fortunate that was all the damage to the bike plus the right handguard shield was scuffed. I did try to slow its decent as it fell onto the cement floor. There was no mark on the Hepco Becker skidplate or lower crashbar. The right perch clamp for the braker master cylinder is back ordered. I easily use a 90 degree piece of bracket metal from HomeDepot to make a mounting bracket with a few small washers and longer bolts.

Reality check.. the TAT is completely overblown as to its “difficulty “ From Cherokee NC to the border of Colorado, it’s a joke…any “off roading” is limited to fire/dirt roads with occasional rain wash outs…but once you get to Colorado, depending on which TAT you choose, it gets challenging.. as for Ben, his off road skills are very limited…

So if I have read this right, Double Take have gone from using a tried and tested KNOWN and reputable product in RAM mounts and then copied the idea, and made their product incompatible with RAM products thereby forcing you to buy yet more of their "proprietary" product and no doubt charging an arm and a leg in the process?
@hibob841

Nice! On your 450L, were you able to put the 'old' Doubletakes where you wanted them? I unfortunately can't, due to my riding position and the range of motion in the upper ball/mirror. They still work, but I have to lean back to really see them. Wondering if the redesign would address this.

I use these mirrors..the "old" version. I understand these "new" ones are "new" but I fail to see why they are "better". So what if the ball gets a weird shape. It doesn't affect the performance of the mirror. So what if the arm is longer. Longer and shorter arm are available online from many manufacturers, including RAM Mounts. The weight is negligible. So why are they "better"? Companies have to make thigs "better" so we buy new things, like mtn bikes and ski equipment and so many other things.

Perhaps slightly less quality? I don’t know. But When it comes to clones that’s what I’m use to getting. Just to clarify, this is not an "upgrade" specifically. RAM Mount started making their own mirrors so Doubletake decided to copy the RAM ball and socket design and sell their own arms and balls. Personally, I'd rather spend my money on a tried and trusted (almost 30 years of design and engineering) RAM Mount solution, but each to their own.

As a 70-80% trail/off road rider the powermadd mini mirrors mounted to handguards are infinitely better than double take mirrors. Double takes are massive and always get in the way no matter what position they’re in. Plus turning your head to look for cars or whatever is behind you is the way it should be done

Gave them a try. Total garbage. The WILL NOT stay in position, they fall almost immediately. I have tightened the clamp to the point of squishing the rubber ball flat. Worthless.

Oh, but wait! Double take mirrors are made in the USA, so according to your last video, they don't care about quality or customer satisfaction... Isn't that what you said?

No it really, really isn't what I said. I said that when American companies say they want to do good more than they want to profit, they're generally full of shit. I never said anything about quality or customer service.

OR...and try to keep up here...maybe I just like the product and feel good recommending it to people? Maybe it's a product I've used for years and think is a good solution to a common issue with these bikes? Nah...you're right. I'm just a sellout. I'll try and never ever show any products from any company on the channel again. It's the only way to be sure.

@@DorkintheRoad Based on the number of your videos concerning your off road riding “abilities” or lack there of, you’d be better off on a TTR… Now if you had a substantial racing resume’ or successfully traversed the Amazon jungle, Sahara or Russian Tundra, or a bare minimum the TAT west of Colorado, your viewers would be more inclined to give your product “reviews” a greater degree of credibility….but you haven’t …. What’s next , your take on the best treadmill out there ? It’s all about establishing credibility. An educated viewer would place more credibility on , let’s say, an off road tire if Steward Baylor, or Trystan Hart where conducting an review… or better yet , Graham Jarvis on how to tackle a log, not BRM on a $40k BMW GS…The vast majority of ADV riders are posers, their off road adventures are relegated to fire/dirt roads with an occasional 3” puddle..all while sporting a $1000 6D helmet and bathed in Klim gear from head to toe… pure posers whose bragging rights are best found at the local pub…not the trail…

@@DorkintheRoad and you delete my rebuttable…did I strike a nerve?…. Obviously. Here’s a recap.. you have ZERO credibility to offer reviews .. you have no racing experience, off road resume’ not even a single off road school taught by an accomplished off roader.. ZERO NOTHING NADA, but yet you fancy yourself an “influencer” and accomplished “ reviewer “… you are a poser like 99% of the ADV riders out there sporting their $1000 6D helmet and bathed in KLIM gear from head to toe..grow some ballz and hit single track or and enduro instead of mindless smooth road “adventures” but yet you shizzle your pants when faced with 1 inch of snow…. Yup.. I’d buy anything you’re pitching… you may fool the other wannabees with your dribble, but we in the true off road community , with decades of off road and racing experience chuckle and your charlatanism….. sit down Ben , forgo Golden Corral and hit the treadmill…..

I get the idea... kind of, but no way in hell I could ride in L.A. (or anywhere else on a paved public road) without mirrors, which I am routinely checking looking for people doing stupid things behind me (and Teslas. I do everything in my power to not be in front of a damn Tesla for any length of time). There are things I could never see "just" looking over my shoulder (which is second nature). Not to mention being stopped at a red light... looking for that person that isn't going to stop (I'm not an owl after all).

That’s why I seriously considered just using the little round mirrors that attach to the hand guards, because I do look over my shoulder all the time anyway.
