Real in Norwegian means «proper» and their Brand for hiking is called real turmat which translates to «proper hiking food»
@MrGreenDayRocks4 жыл бұрын
Proper translates to ordentlig, real means ekte.
@thomasforsberg74684 жыл бұрын
benchod Wrong. "Real" is a Norwegian word with the same meaning as "ordentlig", and as you so kindly pointed out. That translates to proper.
@MrGreenDayRocks4 жыл бұрын
@@thomasforsberg7468 sure dude..
@ShadowTani4 жыл бұрын
@@MrGreenDayRocks Yeah, it's actually a Norwegian word taken from German rather than English (it's derived from the latin word realis and adopted by most Germanic languages). With that said I've actually never seen it used as a synonym for 'ordentlig' (proper). It's more of a synonym for 'faktisk' (actual) and 'virkelig' (real/really) as an antonym to ideal. It's also not uncommon for Norwegian products to be given English names anyway, so when the full product label shown in the package corner says "Real Field Meal" on the package I highly doubt the Real is considering the Norwegian word, even if they are similar, lol.

When you look at the bottom of the bag, you can split the sides from the bottom. Makes it stand better, and easier to mix. oh. HFCS is not allowed in Norway, so nothing served here contains that.
@mmbpng21144 жыл бұрын
I could t even tell you have meny hundreds of those I've eaten over the years. My step by step recommendation for how to prepare: 1. Rip the two parts / "legs" on the bottom apart first, before you break the vacuum seal (easier that way). This will allow easier access during mixing. 2. Open the top as normal, breaking seal. 3. Thoughrougly crush contents prior to adding water. 4. Add water first to top of contents (ignore fill line). Mix it all up well. 5. Add a second round of water to get the consistency you prefer, and to avoid making soup out of it. Do another round of mixing (to get rid of any remaining dry parts not mixed with water yet). 6. Close bag and let sit for about 10-15 minutes to get the best, non-dry texture possible. Do not leave spoon in during wait, as heat will seep out of bag. 7. Add hotsauce if you have and want. For added calories or just to upgrade meal, add 1-2 slices of cheese and some chopped up salami or pepperoni before you seal the bag. My favourites are the pork sweet and sour, and the pasta provence.

stew is meant to be thick , why its called stew and not soup
@ZyctoH3 жыл бұрын
Do you really mean that its not thick? Thats the thickest stew you can get here in Norway. Soup is just liquid and flavour.

The viltgryte aka reindeer stew was my favorite when i was serving, and i lived for those bbq peanuts! The pasta ones are also good, but they get boring after a while, so we used to bring some spices and cheese to get some more flavor.

Reindeer meat is a really expensive meat so I wouldn't be surprised if they discontinued it due to it being too expensive for the army that are always looking to cut costs. However, it is one of the healthiest meats you can have, as low in fat as chicken, and as high in Omega 3 as fish, with more vitamins than regular farm animal meat, and it has a pleasantly mild wild flavor too. Luxurious and a real treat in every way. My motivation would been skyhigh for the rest of the day if I had gotten that kind of ration out in the field, lol.
@leifgunnartoth80704 жыл бұрын
Reindeer meat is not that much more expensive than cow in norway, at least not the average prices. But the cleaner the cuts, the more expensive it gets of course.
@daginn8963 жыл бұрын
Its leaner than chicken actually. And as you say packed with vitamines and omega 3.
@krykkatorix5 жыл бұрын
A well done review. I ate hundreds of these in the service, and during winter exercises, we had to eat three of those per day, I only managed to eat 2. This, of course, depends on your energy output. Cons: The poor spoon. It breaks to easily. The packaging of each menu item is way to noisy and will undoubtedly scare of game during hunting or worse, give your position away to the enemy. I have to be accurate with the water for the main meal, too much water = diarrhea and too little water = constipation for days. I'm not sure this is a typical thing to everyone. You also need to carry boiled or continuously boil water to enjoy the meal during the. A BCB or esbit stove and a titanium mug with lid works well. Pricey, it costs approximately 20 USD pr arctic ration and about 8 USD for the main meal. Pros Main meal is vaccuum sealed and very light weight. You can pack several days worth of food and still conserve weight and space in your pack. It is also very tasty. The menu items are really nice and serves as an excellent morale boost, just keep those items close to your body heat. Eating frozen makrel in lime wasn't a pleasant experience. Most meals doesn't require boiled water and that will increase the wait time.

When I was a kid we lived near the pocatelo reservation. I remember the Indians would harvest buffalo and they made this stew with corn squash beans buffalo meat roots potatoes and a few other things. Some rabbit and berries and there was never anything like it since. I even went back there years later but all the old cooks had passed and nobody remembered how to make buffalo stew anymore.
