This soundtrack is so good I bought it after I saw the movie. MTV was only 5 or 6 years old when this movie came out so the music video for Danger Zone helped make the movie so popular. Heard it a lot on the car's radio station during that summer too. Biggest hit of Kenny Loggins career

Now, Top Gun Maverick.

1. An old shipmate of mine was onboard the Enterprise when they filmed this. 2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash. Everything that could have gone wrong, did. 3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. These men, women and the men and women working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out 4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT 5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. 6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone" 7. The officer(Goose) is the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) radar, communications and navigation. 8. Onboard the ship the Squadron leader would not be smoking a cigar in that operation space. 9. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called "Joe vs the Volcano" She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT 10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood (not the pilot). There is AC onboard. 11. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. It's now at NAS Fallon, NV. 12. In 1991 I was stationed on the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) and they made a movie onboard called "Flight of the Intruder". It was seriously cool. Brad Johnson, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT. 13. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seems like they were practicing. Better yet, it has a plot. (besides Navy recruitment).

I was an AME in VQ-137 and worked as a final checker/troubleshooter on the Ranger westpac 80, Then I reuped and got stations in VS-37 and did another west pac doing the same job on the Enterprise in 82. Did a few reps down in Miramar in the EA6B squadron, got stuck running the lox farm at the end of the runway in the middle of the desert for two weeks one time.

Camara limitations was a serious thing in the original. Heater Heatley was one of the aerial camera men. He said in an interview recently that the film kept jamming in the camera during maneuvers. Even after he found a solution, he could only get 20-30 seconds worth if film before he would have to reset the camera. There would be no solution until the digital camera and digital storage was available.

Iceman comes across as an antagonist, but when you see maverick’s arc in the movie you realize that all of Iceman’s advice was good advice. I really hope you watch Topgun: Maverick , it was a surprise to me how much I enjoyed it.

The term, "Call the Ball" has to do with the Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System. When a bright amber light lines up with green lights on either side, you have the correct glide path for the plane's tailhook to engage with the arresting gear wire. My MOS in the Marine Corps, was 7011, Expeditionary Airfield Equipment. We built portable airfields, installed and operated portable arresting gear to stop tailhook aircraft. I worked with the A-4 Skyhawk, F-4 Fantom, A-6 Intruder E-2 Hawkeye and even the F/A-18 Hornet.

Elena, this film is directly responsible for thousands of people joining the Navy to fly the F-14. Who knew that it'd be over THIRTY YEARS before they'd film the second Top Gun, also starring Tom Cruise? If you're in a Tom Cruise "mood", there's a film of his that most people have overlooked and it shows off considerable skill. The film is called "Cocktail". I'm confident that you'll enjoy it. Take care and keep smiling! 😃

Elena, this is a day late. Don't know if you will read it, but I was in the Navy and stationed in San Diego when this was shot. My wife and I walked from our apartment on C street over to B street to watch the filming of Charlie chasing down Maverick and the kiss 😊 The old man Charlie meets at the Officers club is the real Viper ( Commander Peter Pettigrew consulting for the movie. When you watch Top Gun Maverick remember the two mentions of Penny Benjamin the Admirals daughter, she is important in Top Gun Maverick 😊

If you like seeing young Tom Cruise, I'd be curious how you would like "Legend". It came out the year before Top Gun. It's a fantasy film.

You know, I've seen a lot of reactions for this movie. Ms any cut out funny parts. You included them. So you have a new follower. I joined the Navy because of this movie. Although I did the opposite and went in the Submarine Service. Now, other than Down Periscope and Das Boot, I hate every submarine movie. Submarines do not bank like airplanes. Lol. I appreciate what you noticedin this movie. Keep in mind, Patty Benjamin who came up in this movie in the beginning when they are getting yelled at by the flight commander, who sent them to Top Gun. Because when Patty comes up in Top Gun Maverick, I haven't seen anybody out it together that she is Patty Benjamin.

You mean Penny Benjamin, right? I grew up right next to the submarine capital of the world in Groton, CT. We always had a great military community around us. I actually worked on base for years, in the barbershop! I got to tour the USS Alexandria after it was first commissioned on Thanksgiving Day, in 1991. I even got to have Thanksgiving dinner while on board!

Saw this when it premiered in theater one of my favorites. If you like this one another one of my favorites you should react to is The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.

33:30, all on deck shots- Hand signals are need on deck, hearing is impaired with the engines, helmets, ear protection, for safety. Not being fancy, if you miss a signal it can cost your life or worse, others' lives. Safety first, carrier deck is the most dangerous place to be. 33:41 - "touching the rockets" - inspecting ordnance for anything out of place, loose, missing. Also not being fancy, important pre-check routine. (just pointing it out if you don't know what & why they do those things).
@saaamember974 ай бұрын
I don't see what the big problem was, with Maverick/Goose going below the hard deck. The minute Commander Heatherly (Jester) went below the assigned hard deck himself, he was dead ..... He hit the hard deck. So, Jester crashed and burned, and Maverick/Goose should be credited with a "terrain kill." After Jester killed himself, at that point, the training simulation was over, regardless of what Maverick/Goose did afterward.
@pogo11404 ай бұрын
Because maverick "died" seconds after Jester.
@martinsv91835 ай бұрын
There were no simulators or computer animation back then that were good enough for realistic film footage. So the flight scenes are real. Except of course the obvious ones where they blow each other up and stuff like like. Those are models. But otherwise its actual flying with cameras. No modern cgi beats that.

They had to add the scenes with the Female lead after the film was finished because everyone thought the guys were Gay. Fun fact 🌈 😂
@raybernal68295 ай бұрын
From what I've read and heard the only scene added was the elevator scene with Tom and Kelly. The reason she is wearing a hat is because her hair style was different than when the film was initially shot.

It is a movie that young people today can enjoy ? or you see it very eighties and stay a little outside of those vibes ? I'm from those times and for me it was quite modern for that time, very music video movie, with several musical moments, more directed to the young people of those times and I loved that. This movie had a lot of influence from MTV and precisely from the music videos.
@fgdhjh4 ай бұрын
There are 2 things to answer your question. 1) I really love the spirit of old movies. 2) I'm also a musician, I love great music in movies😉
